By far the best female songwriter around. I've been listening to my old records again, and this is one of the first albums I unearthed from the dusty box. It still grabs me.
Karla was a backup singer for Linda Ronstadt on a lot of her LPs ...I love her voice and I have everything by her , I was a teen and loved everything she did , because of Linda Ronstadt....Karla is a great songwriter, also.
Karla wrote these songs recorded by Linda Ronstadt -- "Someone To Lay Down Beside Me," "Trouble Again," "All My Life," "Falling Star" and "Goodbye My Friend." Thus, some might say that Linda Ronstadt was "very Karla Bonoff." And, when you consider Karla's own solo career along with the many songs she wrote that were recorded by recording stars, you are correct -- a great talent on her own.
@TralfazConstruction Your comment about sitting pensively for hours in the dark makes me think about the song '' let me be the one '' by Nicolette Larson. Are you familiar with it ??
We saw Karla perform this in Clearwater last month. I never knew she had written this, but it stands out as her first great hit. She told us she performed it on Merv Griffin and Solid Gold in the '80's. She was so neat to see. Oh, btw, she's a perfectionist, as she kept going back and forth with the sound guy at Ruth Eckerd Hall.
thks for posting this brings back memories of my cousin babysitting me and my little brother in the 70's I was only 5 he was 3 I still remember!!!! GRT SONG
I used to get tremendous chills listening to this as a teenager. It still haunts me. Karla softened me up for Emmylou Harris, Nicolette Larson, Amy Holland and other similar artists I wasn't paying attention to as I rocked harder. Karla is the underrated songwriter I wish I was.
"Please be the one" is absolutely the best song that Karla Bonoff has ever sung, I thik. How many times have I watched this video? But I've never been fed up yet.
espiritudionisiaco(what a long name!), thank you so much for posting this video for us.
This is a great song. I think it is a much better song than Personally and I'm baffled as to why this song didn't do better than #63 on the Billboard Top 10 chart. I think her record label didn't promote her enough and then they dropped her after this album.

This is indeed a great song, written back in 1982. It has also been recorded and performed by the LONDON POPS ORCHESTRA.

Very "Linda Ronstadt" ... i guess this is why she sang backup for Linda. Great talent on her own.

@iriewaregl Great comment, Linda's career was sort of half and half, half covers and the other half Karla Bonoff material...........

@NAMDOG54 Yes indeed, that was the point I was trying to make ... thanks!

Haunting.
I have been intrigued by this Song, this singular Talent; Karla Bonoff for over a quarter of a century.
Where are today's great songs?
Where does the time go?
If I were wanting to sit pensively for hours, watching the stars come out, this is THE song I'd be listening to.

Just a great vocal and lyric, under- rated, under-rated singer but her voice will live long
through the years, she's almost peerless in
her emotional delivery.
