In 30 years, and 1000s of movies, the greatest narrative/monologue scene I have ever seen. It takes a brilliant actor to make something sound so powerful. What an amazing, glorious story...
In 30 years, and 1000s of movies, the greatest narrative/monologue scene I have ever seen. It takes a brilliant actor to make something sound so powerful. What an amazing, glorious story...
stephen king with this book in my opinion is on the same level as harper lee and carson mccullers with the "coming of age" theme...his level of insight and mastery of the language is truly worthy of a pulitzer prize..too bad he didn't get one
the book was awesome. still haven't seen the movie but to anyone reading this who enjoyed the movie, do yourself a big favor and read the book. it's such a gnarly look into the effects of the vietnam war, and just that whole era.
The book was so much better, because the movie ruined my image of Bobby and Ted! The book will always be better than the movie in most cases. The acting was good though.
Yeah, the book, undoubtedly, rocks. And although I haven't seen the movie, I'm sure that it can't be better than the book. This clip sure supports my claim. Even though Hopkins acts decently well, he sure ruined my image of Ted too, and the Bobby, whoever acted his part, just plain stinks! :-)
I've never read the Stephen King book, but this scene is from William Goldman's book Magic. I'm pretty sure he wrote the screen play for this movie. Anthony Hopkins is in the movie version of Magic too, but this scene isn't in it, actually it's just the story about Nagurski in the book. I'm pretty sure Magic is out of print, but it's excellent so if you can get it read it.
if you really think that the film is good, then just go read the book and prepare to be spellbound.the film only takes up the first part of the book up until about 300 pages but if none of you have read the book then you dont know that bobby becomes a real troublemaker and heavy smoker.and carol ends up becoming sully's girlfriend. the book really is much richer than the movie and still the movie is amazing.
I ahevn't seen the movie, but I'm almost finished reading the book. Although I was upset that Carol didn't end up with Bobboy, books would be pretty boring if everything we expected happened.
In the interview with the movie director.. He says that this special scene, he insipired in his grandfather, which was and old lonesome man and loved him a lot..
but the best scene for me is that one in which he is captuured by the fbi men and bobby touches the glass car and cries desperately.
What u call Fbi men are actually Low men. They are actually creatures some vampires that wear human mask. Servants of the Crimson King which is all tied to the dark tower.
ugh, love hopkins!! Fav and best actor ever

Very deep heart felt movie. It just touches me deeply for no reason. May be it's the friendship and magic.

Everyone needs a person like Ted Brautigan in their lives, or at least Hopkins' version of him.

I love this beautiful movie especially Anton Yelchin's acting - extremely high level for his age. Anthony Hopkins and Hope Davis were great as well.

I like at the end when he's carrying that little girl up the hill and thinking about this story and he kept going and going.
Great inspiration.
Good movie.
GREAT movie..

The reason the psychic told the boy the story about Nagurski was because he knew he needed to hear it to help him carry the girl up the hill.

Yeah they had to drop the Dark Tower references so Joe Trashcan wouldn't get too confused. Ahh the wonderful, dumbed down world of american cinema.

thats a shame to hear cause i loved the movie, but the cover of the book makes the movie seem so much darker

the movie is not good if u read the book first. THe movie only covers the first short story, and the creepiness of "the lowmen" is completly removed
