The guys who made this are so going to Hell. Seriously, a shitload of innocent peole die, these people make a profit off of it, and they rub salt in the wounds of the family members of those who died.
@mcrfuse 1) they are tacky 2) they have no "value" to anyone but the dummies that bought it and people that sold them to you (and that value was lost once your credit card was dinged) 3) don't wash them as the plating might come off when you rub the dust off of them. mind you the US Mint product for the commemorative medal isn't too far behind, but at least you could melt that down and have something of value.
This company is just sick. Many people lost their lives that day and many men and women are serving there country to prevent this from happening ever again and these people want to make a quick buck, how disgusting
yeah back when these commercials were playing i didn't really understand why they were making these. it's cool to commemorate moments in history but it's not cool to make a profit from tragedy. unless they gave the $ to a 9/11 families or victims charity, i find it unethical
You mean I haven't missed out on this historic offer?!? Oh thank god, I guess that limit of five per person prevented them from being snatched up by some unscrupulous commemorative currency-hoarding scumbag.
They should make a 7 dollar bill to commemorate WTC7. I mean a 7 dollar bill would be less absurd than a 47 story building falling in less than 7 seconds... supposedly from FIRE alone. I've seen wooden structures survive FIRE better than that fucking building. We WILL NEVER forget, that BUSH knocked down tha towers.
The ad says it's being sold for face value: 20 dollars. Well 20 Liberian dollars is ~32 (US) cents. I tried to buy my limit of 5 for $1.60 but alas, they wouldn't do it :(

I'd like to go to Liberia someday and fucking murder those cocksuckers that made this horrible commercial in a tasteless attempt to profiteer off of something that caused immeasurable pain and suffering to our country. If I had a private jet, I seriously would consider flying my ass down there and kicking their fucking asses and throwing all of their 9/11 celebration merchandise into a fucking furnace somewhere. Fuck the government for letting this disrespectful commercial go on national TV.
This commercial is just disrespectful to all those that died in the Towers. I can't believe some tasteless fucks are actually trying to turn a profit off of something so horrific. When I saw this commercial, I wanted to kick my TV screen in. Just thinking about it makes me want to punch somebody. Calling it "memorabilia" like it's something to be celebrated sets something off in my head. Sorry for the rant, it's just that I have family on Long Island, and I was worried for them when it happened.
If the money (from those who actually buy this) was going towards charity or those affected by 9/11 or to fix up ground zero, I'd be like oh this is nice.. but this is just stupid.
yeah, to me what makes it most inane is the use of "two separate numbers", like it's a big deal. Its a collector's piece and isn't in circulation like a regular dollar bill. The twin towers aren't really in perspective, so it appears that one is taller than the other. In addition the Freedom Tower on the reverse side has become a source of controversy.
I'd like to go to Liberia someday and see their vending machines with giant coin slots for limited edition soaring eagle half-dollars, and go to their markets and watch someone pay for their purchases with two 9/11 twin towers twenties and get a handful of Dale Earnhardt medallions as change.
I just saw the commecial on TV and decided to look up the exchange... $1.00 US money equals 63.ish Liberian money. Value wise definately a rip off, but if it was legit it is a neat idea. When I saw '.999 silver leaf' in the ad I was suspicious.
Today, History is being made! A bunch of a**holes decided to make a phony 9/11 commemorative bill, which is worth only 32 cents USD. This offer will not be in stores, as it is clearly a scam. Send your hard earned cash for this tacky trinket.
How about the "strict limit of five per caller?" What a transparent attempt to make it appear the bills are in high demand. This company was actually under investigation by the New York attorney general's office regarding an unrelated scam and came to some agreement to avoid prosecution, if I'm not mistaken.
Can't wait to receive mine. Bought one for my grandmother who's birthday is September 11th... way before September 11th was an infamous day. You alarmist wackos say what you will BUT I am gonna be in the running for *GRANDSON OF THE YEAR as soon as she receives this from me... awesome!

well i like the idea of trading in worthless paper 20$. for the real 20$ in sliver we need to go back the gold and silver standard.hey it may be from Liberia. but hey silver is silver it may buy me a loath of bred some day when the 2nd great depression hits
It's silver leaf, not solid silver. Between the negligible value of the bill and the light-as-air silver shavings they've glued to it, you still wouldn't have enough to buy so much as a Big Mac.
I LOVE the "face value" of $20. it's "$20 legal LIBERIAN currency" $20 Liberian isn't even $1 US. They are really preying on the elderly and the not-in-the-know of the exchange
Just wait...the "Falling Man" commererative bill will come out next. I right now am watching a show called " The Passionate Eye" here in Canada. I am watching the episode of trying to determine who the falling man was from the 911 disaster. In between this on commercial breaks...this fucking commercial comes on. Who ever own this company ... who ever thought that it was a good idea to run this commericial is sick. I also am dissapointed in the CBC for accepting the sponsorship of this commercial
This Isn't AMERICAN for those of you on here who think it is. It's LIBERIAN currency and non legal tender. Even at the end the commercial says in fine print it has nothing to do with the US Mint or any US Agency.
This has to be one of the most tackiest awful disgusting thing to come out of the tragedy, and a disgusting way to commemorate 3000+ dead.
can anyone tell me why the US government hasn't put a stop to this. it's a f_cking insult to the US. who is getting the profits? is it new york? the families of the victims or is it the liberian government?
None of the above. It's the National Collector's Mint or whatever they're called, which is not actually a mint, just a company that comes up with ideas for these, pays a few bucks to the Liberian gov't for the rights to use their name and then buys infomercial time
I'm just curious but has anyone bought one of these or know of anyone who's bought one? Someone mentioned earlier about the weight of this thing. I'd be real curious of that. It's got to be plactic covered with a thin thin layer of silver leaf.
Available at Face value? A quick check of conversion rates reveals that 20 LRD=0.31 USD as of today. Who would buy this garbage? They're made in China by a US-based company and are "legal Liberian tender." I'm sure if I went into a store in Monrovia and attempted to buy something with this, I'd be laughed under the table...then shot in the head by a gang of rebels. Please...this is stupid
Absolutely disgusting. Worst of all is that in the past decade the only governmental agencies that have not become more invasive to citizens are the SEC who have let history repeat itself with the S&L going under and all the AGs who have completely given up in enforcing truth in advertising laws. A lot of American companies blatantly lie about giving away free merchandise now because they know the old bait and switch is now considered good advertising.
I don't really have a problem with it being flagged, and it really wouldn't bother me if they pulled this down, but you're talking about something being shown several times an hour every afternoon on multiple TV channels. Your energy would be better spent emailing the FCC about it. Few children - if any - are going to run across it here.
This commercial is horrific. It's just as bad as that 9/11 postcard I saw years ago. While we're at it, let's make commemorative coins for Katrina. We can show people drowning on the back of it.
I've got to be honest with you. I don't even remember what I wrote here and now I can't find my comment. I was most likely trolling though because that's all I do on youtube.
-This sentence: "On the front, the frosted towers stand out against a mirror-like background, much as they did in the gleaming sunlight of that fateful morning"
This coin is 20 Liberian dollars. If you look at the exchange rate, you will find that 20 Liberian dollars won't buy you a single postage stamp in America.
The fact that they exploit the 9/11 tragedy is an insult to our entire nation, and CAN NOT STAND.
This is nothing more than a big money SCAM. They are selling something worth literally nothing for $24.95. I see people asking how much silver is in it. NONE. The in is probably plastic - covered in silver LEAF.
I urge everyone reading this to contact your state's trade commission as well as the Federal Trade Commission to express your *outrage* at this national insult.
I've been seeing this commercial many times a day for the past few weeks. I want to alert you all to the fact that this is LIBERIAN currency and is NOT redeemable in ANY way for $20 American dollars. The ad is truthful but highly MISLEADING when it refers to this coin as "legal tender". The ACTUAL VALUE of this coin is approx. $0.30 US.
'No fake'. Right....like you can't get scammed from TV. I agree with propheticlivity, this ad is misleading, and i'd say intentionally so; at the end of the day you'll get what's advertised, nothing at all like what you thought you were going to get, unless you listened real careful. It is an insult, a preying insult, and i think the tv channels airing it should receive our *outrage*. Sad thing is, i think there is a real market for the real thing. has anyone bought this?, and is satisfied?
Well, did you expect them to just sell you the equivalent of a $20 USD collectible when you're actually paying $20 USD?
Why even bother creating them? It wouldn't even be profitable. The ad is honest. People deserve what they get if they open their wallets to TV ads without paying attention.
And yes, it is very tacky. I just have no sympathy for stupid people.
im sure i am,the people let their government take away their freedoms while they create a fake threat (bin laden,TERROR,muslims, whatever)all the while flag sales go through the roof because they are patriots and wars need fighting!in a few generations we'll evolve and learn to live in peace,or die in a fireball.
The company making this and selling it and doing everything involved with it are Americans. It is only "Liberian currency" because the company is paying the Liberian government (who will take any money for anything) for it to be so.
It reminds me of all the Titanic merchandise now. My mom and I went to the Titanic exhibit and they had a gift shop at the end. One of the things they were selling was a pen with one of those little water displays at the top. There was a lifeboat that moves up and down, and in the background the Titanic is sinking. WTF? I asked my mom "How long until they have one of those with a little moving airplane that crashes into the WTC?"
I wonder if I could call them up and ask if I could send 30 cents as payment. Maybe throw in another 5 cents for shipping and handling. Don't fall for this scam, people!
I just saw this as a commercial on the Speed channel. It is now offered at 20 USD. They dropped the price from 39 USD. I guarentee that a lot of dumbass people will misinterpret this as a "great deal." They will think these are incredible collectors items and buy 100 USD worth (they are limited to 5 per buyer). So many dumbass people in the USA. They will buy them with a credit card as usual and end up paying the 100 USD off over 10 years. Cost them over
No, no, not the Liberian mint - the "National Collector's Mint".
Which is another thing that makes it misleading. I wouldn't be surprised to learn the World Bank is behind this, just to further inflate the worthless US dollar (which is still worth hundreds of times more than the Liberian dollar).
Disgusting.

This commercial is horrific. It's just as bad as that 9/11 postcard I saw years ago. While we're at it, let's make commemorative coins for Katrina. We can show people drowning on the back of it.

Because thinking this product is tacky and distasteful is supporting terrorism, right? Enjoy your fail, fucktard.

I've got to be honest with you. I don't even remember what I wrote here and now I can't find my comment. I was most likely trolling though because that's all I do on youtube.
xlegionx 3 years ago 2
It looks kinda cool but that's one shitty ass ad.
Megajosh2 3 years ago
Things that make this ad something special:
-cheesy inspirational music
-"Liberian Legal Tender" (LOL)
-9+11=20 OH SHI 9/11 CONSPIRACY
-".999 pure silver-leaf"
-This sentence: "On the front, the frosted towers stand out against a mirror-like background, much as they did in the gleaming sunlight of that fateful morning"
What a garbage piece of advertising.
crazyrabbits 3 years ago
agreed, the people who made this commercial should be shot
DangerousD6969 3 years ago 2
Let me clarify that a bit:
This coin is 20 Liberian dollars. If you look at the exchange rate, you will find that 20 Liberian dollars won't buy you a single postage stamp in America.
The fact that they exploit the 9/11 tragedy is an insult to our entire nation, and CAN NOT STAND.
This is nothing more than a big money SCAM. They are selling something worth literally nothing for $24.95. I see people asking how much silver is in it. NONE. The in is probably plastic - covered in silver LEAF.
propheticlivity 3 years ago
this isn't the first time they have done this
DangerousD6969 3 years ago
I urge everyone reading this to contact your state's trade commission as well as the Federal Trade Commission to express your *outrage* at this national insult.
I've been seeing this commercial many times a day for the past few weeks. I want to alert you all to the fact that this is LIBERIAN currency and is NOT redeemable in ANY way for $20 American dollars. The ad is truthful but highly MISLEADING when it refers to this coin as "legal tender". The ACTUAL VALUE of this coin is approx. $0.30 US.
propheticlivity 3 years ago
Sad thing is, i think there is a real market for the real thing. has anyone bought this?, and is satisfied?
spbonage 3 years ago
Well, did you expect them to just sell you the equivalent of a $20 USD collectible when you're actually paying $20 USD?
Why even bother creating them? It wouldn't even be profitable. The ad is honest. People deserve what they get if they open their wallets to TV ads without paying attention.
And yes, it is very tacky. I just have no sympathy for stupid people.
LunarBahamut 3 years ago
Dude, that's like $1 worth of silver.

How many people actually buy this trash to make themselves feel more patriotic?
rhalas 3 years ago 4
lol probably thousands, the same ones that want war all the time.
DASLIBERTINE 3 years ago
The truely sad thing is that you're correct about that.
rhalas 3 years ago
im sure i am,the people let their government take away their freedoms while they create a fake threat (bin laden,TERROR,muslims, whatever)all the while flag sales go through the roof because they are patriots and wars need fighting!in a few generations we'll evolve and learn to live in peace,or die in a fireball.

Darroth 3 years ago
What do you mean it's fake?
This is a real commercial.
They are really selling this worthless, tasteless garbage.
culwin 3 years ago 3
It's sold by the Liberians, not the Americans
Darroth 3 years ago
What do you mean sold by the Liberians?
The company making this and selling it and doing everything involved with it are Americans. It is only "Liberian currency" because the company is paying the Liberian government (who will take any money for anything) for it to be so.
culwin 3 years ago 5
This is no fake. I have seen the commercial on TV the past few nights. How much does this thing weigh? It never states how much silver there is.
kfearnside 3 years ago
It reminds me of all the Titanic merchandise now. My mom and I went to the Titanic exhibit and they had a gift shop at the end. One of the things they were selling was a pen with one of those little water displays at the top. There was a lifeboat that moves up and down, and in the background the Titanic is sinking. WTF? I asked my mom "How long until they have one of those with a little moving airplane that crashes into the WTC?"
altoidsours 3 years ago

Cost them over
1000 USD for 5 X .32= $ 1.60 HA!

Lol the Liberian mint what a fucking scam.
XxXjnerxX 3 years ago
No, no, not the Liberian mint - the "National Collector's Mint".
Which is another thing that makes it misleading. I wouldn't be surprised to learn the World Bank is behind this, just to further inflate the worthless US dollar (which is still worth hundreds of times more than the Liberian dollar).
