  • he looks like a mini lion

  • I love Bear <3

  • wow he really looks like a lion...

  • he is a gorgeous dog, but may I suggest checking on his ears, especially right one, for infection?

  • my chow chows name was also bear..rip :(

  • hermoso chow!

  • Awesome Chow!

  • my 11month old chow died today.. i miss him so much

  • I have FIVE Chows...they do MUCH better with a lion or puppy cut in the summer. I don't care what people read or learn in grooming school. I spend all day with my Chows and they go from heavy panting and wanting to stay inside in the a/c to going outside and laying in the shade. Maybe owners of show dogs may not agree with this, but for our "pet" quality dogs it's not a beauty contest...it's about feeling good, staying healthy and enjoying family life.

  • It isn't about "style" to keep their hair long. The fur actually insulates the skin, which keeps them cooler during the summer.

Also, they have a serious risk of sunburn if you cut their hair too short.

  • cute, i cut my chow for the summer, my family cut all the hair off.

  • He si saying, I get paid alot of money to be this cute.

  • as a professional dog groomer myself, the myth that dogs feel better in the summer with a haircut isnt true. They sweat thru the paw pads, the hair actually acts as insulation to keep them cool, just like the insulation in your house. It keeps the cold air in. Trimming the hair is fine but you should shave them down to nothing. Just shaving the hair on the bottom of the feet between the paw pads is good because that's where they sweat from.

  • edited to say "you SHOULDN'T shave them down to nothing"

  • @lml8722 What about letting them play in water? My chow always loved to splash around in water when it was hot

  • you are so irresponsible i almost died of a cuteness overdose;P! warn me next tyme please

  • Pretty Chow Chow. I've trimmed some of my heavy coated Chows. They do so much better in the summer heat where I live

  • i thought you were never allowed to cut a chow chows fur. i don't own a chow chow. and am not claiming you've done the wrong thing. Its just what i've read about the breed.... are you allowed?

  • I know it's "against breed standard" according to the AKC, but they also promote inbreeding so... *shrug*

I've also always been told not to do it because chows can sunburn, and because dogs release most of their body heat through the pads of their paws (like humans release most of their body heat through the tops of their heads) so it's more important to give them a cool place for their feet. Air-conditioned kitchen tile, kiddie pool, and such.

  • he all grown up

  • good vid. fitting name.

  • aaaw wat a gorgeous breed im gettin one wen i get my own place ... my mum dont want another dog in the house lol how much r they about? =) xxxxxxx

  • His name is "Bear".

  • @ZaIIenyn that's it's name...

  • we shave our dog sugar for the summer too. i think she feels naked without her fur.
