  • "...with a very special way of moving you like no other car..."

Yeah, those 4100 V8s failed like no other car.

  • Hey that's me! But I have a 2001 Eldorado ESC

  • I have a hard time believing that any cars of the 80’s will be seen as classics like those from the 50’s and 60’s. Example A) Cadillac Eldorado.

  • 79-85 Eldorado..best body style period. I love my Biarritz!

  • "Ever since you were a kid, you dreamed of having your very own Eldorado, so here, have this ugly downsized box we've made and are claiming is a Cadillac. Hey, it says Eldorado right on the side, so at least you can pretend it's a luxury car."

  • the engine on the 1979-1985 Cadillac Eldorado

    Engine

    4.1 L V6

    4.1 L V8

    4.5 L V8

    5.7 L V8

    6.0 L V8

  • The old one was much sexier.

  • Cadillac dreams? what a nightmare.

  • Still Sexy

  • the transmission on the 1979-1985 Cadillac Eldorado

    Transmission

    3-speed automatic (1979-83)

    4-speed w/electronic overdrive (1984-85)

  • You gotta have the landau top. Gotta.

  • 2011 version: Ever since that summer job, you've dreamed of having your own Eldorado.

So you went to college, then worked your butt off for some corporation. Then you got downsized, lost your overpriced McMansion when housing crashed, and today you're living in your very own Eldorado...

  • The last nice Eldorado, in my opinion.

But I preferred Buick's version of this car (i.e., the Riviera) for looks.

I suspect both had horrible reliability, however. ;)

  • The problem with this logic is if you want a certain car as a teen and then years later get the money ,You buy the car you wanted not the brand new version of it.

  • Best GM car ever!

  • Is this the one with that bitch of an engine, the 4100? Everyone of those engines developed a knock....or so it seemed.

  • The young valet in 1985 wouldn't have the opportunity to own an Eldorado eighteen years later since they stopped making them in 2002.

  • my mom had a 85 eldo. white with black half top black tinted windows and black int. everyone loved how it looked. it sold in 15 minutes on the side a simi busy road. the only thing it had the 4100ht motor. i was thinking of puting my laun mower motor in it to make it go faster

  • That guy's age progression from 1967 would be spot-on in 2011, but highly unrealistic for 1985...too bad Cadillac doesn't make anything that desirable today. If he was 17 in 1967, he'd be 61 today, but only 36 in 1985.

  • Great car commercial - i love it! :-)

  • The nicest looking Eldorado ever.

  • the 1979-1985 Cadillac Eldorado was assembled in

    Linden, New Jersey, United States

    Detroit, Michigan, United States

  • @Annihilator1111 Yeah,I remember the 1982 open house at the Linden GM plant...I was all of nine years old....I remember the full size cutouts of Eldoradoes on the wall, and people taking pics in half assembled Eldoardoes,LOL...Ah memories.

Now all that's left is a big, empty open lot. It's sad.

  • @jmar1973 i know same here in england now MG Rover made in China like almost everything else

  • he looks like a fag to me ha ha

  • I like the whole work ethic through the generations idea in this ad. I remember it when it was new. It's people like that that make a nation financially great.

  • Eldorados are best.

  • cadillacs are old people cars.

  • Um...That was a '67 Eldo,right?

Boy,that guy sure aged fast in 18 years.Must be that stressful job he took so he could buy an Eldorado.

  • i noticed the same thing! haahha....18 Years Later and he is some Old fart! .....Great car though! the 67! and 85!

  • @jmar1973 Sure was. It was actually based on the Front drive 1966 Olds Tornado. I miss the Caddy Eldorado especially from 1985. I did end up with a 85 Buick Riv which was the sister car but still not a Caddy.

  • So what do guys like me,who grew up wanting an Eldorado in the 80's,do now?

    Get a CTS Coupe? :oP

  • Are there any road tests of these cars? I will like to see the"performance" numbers

  • Cadillac Eldorado and Cadillac Seville from 1980 to 1985 I love these cars they were the best on the road also Oldsmobile Toronado and Buick Riviera these years also they where all great style and wonderful ride... My Parents had a 1983 Cadillac Eldorado, my uncle had a 1981 Toronado Diesel, and my aunt had the 84 Riviera I love all of them now I wish they still had them I would bought all 3 of them for my own classic cars. I am currently looking to buy 1 of these 3 in good condition my self

  • My Grandmother Had Nothing But Cadillac Broughams Throughout My Entire Life Until They've Stop Making Them In 1996. And She Never Traded Up Since & She Just Sold It 3 Years Ago For $5,000 With Just Over 33,000 Original Miles On It. Now She Get's Shofored Around Because She Doesn't Trust "Todays" Cars & In Some Cases, Who Could Blame Her.

  • how old was he when he had that first summer job way back when, 35?

  • @JMMoosey ha! i noticed that too. he aged a lot in 10 years!

  • @demoskunk it was more like 17-18 years really, but he still aged a lot in that time. No one goes from looking like a teenager in high school to being a grandparent in that short of a span in time.

  • @JMMoosey Oh, I thought that was a '75 Eldorado 'cause of its really wide body. So that's a '68 or '69, then? Of course, the integrated bumpers and the edgy front and rear styling should have tipped me off!

I love the look of the mid to late '60s Caddys.

  • my grandfather has the black convertible with red leather interior, garage kept and gorgeous everything still works on it too!

  • Preferred the 1970...The '67 was great, but without a 500 and the years after t '70 had the 500 and though still a FANTASTIC car, I like the 1970's body style. I was never too big of a fan by the later Eldorados, but the Brougham was fantastic.

  • 4.1 was a compromise designed to fit FWD and RWD and the multiple GM platforms Cadillac used. Cadillac probably intented to use it in conjunction with the 368cu in. 4-6-8 engine. But that engine was a dud and had to be withdrawn.

  • Best of all its a cadillac

  • prestige class dignified sophisticated piece of machinery is what describes this car; probably one of the finest cars to roll off the assembly line; i had a 1984 model coupe and wished to hell i could have kept it but it was a bit of a gas guzzler at the time and from what ive seen those cars can bring up to $20-30K in some instances

  • @daved1974 "probably one of the finest cars to roll off the assembly line" -- lol yeah, right...

  • This looks like a cool car. I want one.

  • I prefer a Mercedes Benz.

  • Silly commercial. Shame on you cadillac, this is how you sell cars? Beautiful body style and advanced front wheel drive/rear independent suspension. Awful 4100 engine though.

  • @hotjockosu

    are u retarded?

    its rear wheel drive

  • @randomrazr, no sir you are retarded, I will wager you 1 million dollars that this car is FWD as were all eldorados starting in 1967. I seriously doubt GM built a one off 85 RWD eldo for a 30 second commercial that shows nothing of the cars mechanicals, only glamour and flashback shots, so i'm guessing that your pc somehow does not allow you to check the internet for actual facts before you post on you tube, best of all.........the ad car did not come with hideous Biarritz pkg or the vinyl roof!

  • @yknot10

yep looked it up, it is FWD, always thought they were RWD since it was a body on frame type car.

i personally think though th convertable birarrtz pkg looks pretty nice. my mom friend owns a 1985 convertable one and its in extremely great shape

would definately like to own one like that. maroon exterior with red interior and white leather seats.

no need to bash me though, but understandable, i can be a dick on youtube sometimes :p

  • Cool looking car, but that 4.1 V8 was a boat anchor! The HT 4100 as it was called had absolutely no power and was pretty fragile. My mom had a beautiful silver 79 (same body style) with the Olds 350 in it. That car still turned heads until she finally sold it. One of my favorite Caddys though, I'd love a Biarritz Convertible.

  • Ragaillac.

  • I remember a news story of the time from Hollywood. It seems that Elizabeth Taylor had gone car shopping and was at a Cadillac Dealer for some reason she got into an altercation and according to the reporter, "She (Liz Taylor) was thrown out of the dealership on her Eldorado!" This always brings a smile to me when I think about Eldorados.

  • Damn its good to look back on what GM did in its days when they really made a real drving machine best of all its a cadillac

  • @coololds85 Do you sniff glue?

  • no and wtf does this have to do with a cadillac

  • @coololds85 Sorry, it was the "what GM did in its day when they really made a real driving machine" part that was so hillarious. I thought you were serious! I like your sense of humour.

  • its cool and thanks Im looking between a 85-89 cadillac seville , and Deville

  • Every one, Motorbooks International 1994, the book on Eldo Cadillacs is the best book I encountered on the history of Eldo and some one Cadillac and GM in general

  • Who's voting thumbs down on all the comments? I don't see the points expressed being wrong.

The book on Eldorados I uploaded some scans to Photobucket if you search with Eldorado and GM in the search

  • For me, the Biarritz is the only way to go, with Stainless steel roof cap, vinyl sail panels and moonroof/Astroroof/Sunroof as well.

Mine had all that, and I pine for it still! 4100HT engine was not remembered fondly. Woefully underpowered

  • hey everyone check out my 85 Cadillac on my page.

  • Who gives a fuck?!?

  • Dude, If your proud of your ride, why not share it, I like looking at 'em

  • What's the thumbs down for, anyone? Come on, be fair

  • WHAT is your FREAKING PROBLEM?? If all you want to do is get on here and make rude remarks, then why don't you just stay off of here??

  • So you would have everyone that you disagree with relinquish their Constitutional right to free speech? You're obviously some kind of America hating, Communist asshole...GFY! Don't tread on me, you prick!

  • someone obviously doesn't have a life.

  • That somebody appears to be you since you're sitting there rebutting my comments.

  • look at all your f'n comments. Don't tell me that u no life piece of shit.

  • And there you go again, ASSHOLE!

  • u said "who gives a fuck" obviously u do for checkin out this awesome video. Btw how about u go shove that raccoon penis bone back in ur mouth.

  • The video isn't what I said who gives a fuck about, you douchebag, I said it with regard to somebody in the comment section who was babbling about their life story, NOT the video. Learn how to follow along you mindless prick! That's not to say that the video is good either, the 18 year fast forward doesn't match up with the guys age...it's fucking poorly done!

  • No you said "who gives a fuck" to my simple comment to show people my 85 cadillac. btw that person had every right to babble about their life story if they wanted, u "constitutional hating asshole".

  • Shut the fuck up you crybaby, don't tell me what I said or to whom I directed it! I don't mince words and I'll tell you straight out to go fuck your mother without batting an eye, so take your bullshit elsewhere!

  • No, more like you take your rudeness and f'n raccoon piss mouth elsewhere you F'n hillbilly.

  • Hillbilly would insinuate that I'm from the hills and/or uneducated. In both scenarios, you're dead fucking wrong, asshole! I'm from an affluent section of a major Midwestern city and have an advanced scholastic degree.

You on the other hand, are a fucking bum, driving around in one of the worst lemons in US history! Take your piece of shit 4100 motor and shove it in your ass!

  • People laugh at you, they say "that douchebag thinks he's a high roller riding around in that fucking 25 year old chunk a shit!"

  • "Back then" he's 17 in a 1967 Eldorado. Fast Forward and he's in a 1985 Eldo with GRAY FUCKING HAIR and on his forth fucking wife....17 years old in 1967 add 18 years in the fast forward, he's only 35 years old! Bullshit! No wonder Cadillac has crashed to the ground!

  • Should have been Mr. Wayne Kady behind the wheel of his design. He also helped issue out the 1970s cars, including the 76 convertible

  • Thumb down for this comment?? Please explain that to me!

  • WHY DO YOU CARE ONE WAY OR THE OTHER? You're an idiot!

  • It's a shame that this generation of kids don't equate success and the aspiring to it, with wanting an American luxury car such as a Cadillac.

  • @ZiuoxZui Not all of us. Since I were a little kid, I wanted to be in one. And now I have an 83. And no, I wont put big rims on it to make it look like a matchbox car. I like the originality it has to it!

  • there is something about this car,im from europe but when i saw this one ...wow.... had id for about 3 years before..im getting another one soon...

  • Drove one of these earlier this year, a navy blue Biarritz, a dream of a car. Still looks good today!

  • As the proud owner of a 1983 Cadillac Eldorado, and a bit of a car enthusiast; I can truly attest to the fact that these are the perfect Cadillac! It is a shame what Cadillac did in 1986, but they wanted a more fuel efficient take on this model, so they had to down size it. Unfortunately, they took a classic and turned it into what looked to be a bar of soap... Oh well, at 18; I love my Eldorado and it's red/white interior just the way it is! And at the $2000 I got it for; I love em even more!

  • All of them, based on the 79/80 gas crunch, they had experts estimating gas prices reaching 6 bucks a gallon by 1985. The cars were downsized in design years before they rolled out, sadly, not much could be done, it was a massive failure

  • True.. One good thing about the baby Eldo's though; My mom likes them because they are small and she can drive one, since she has bad depth perception. A small victory; I suppose. At least she's not in a Cimmaron or Catera

  • Those cars were ill-advised. GM made many management mistakes. In my book talking with many key Design Studio artists and execs, they had no say over the bean couters and CEOs at GM, so they had to make the best of the situation

  • Bean COUNTERS, meant to say. The book is the History of Eldorado, it's awesome, the binding actually fell apart as I was reading it engrossed for some time

  • I'll have to get that book. Where is it available?

  • I'll get the book to add the info, bought from an automotive press outlet in MN, they sell only car books, located in Friendly, Fridley, Minnesota

  • Ok, from the book; American Classics CADILLAC ELDORADO, by James W. Howell and Jeanna Swanson Howell, Motorbooks International. Published in 1994. Cadillac Eldo expected to have a rosy future at the book's conclusion

  • Your damn stupid mother shouldn't be driving at all if she has bad depth perception! Some people think it's their "right" to drive, that's bullshit. Take the keys away from the old whore before she kills somebody! Jack ass!

  • She can actually drive very well. She just is not comfortable in big boats of cars as these sixth generation Eldo's are. She calims "bad depth perception", yet somehow I doubt she has it given her method of driving. Either way; since when did you become a part of this conversation?

  • You start rambling about your life story and talking about your relatives on a public forum, then anyone can join in!

  • And who the HELL are you?!

  • You're a loser! Your comments are irrelevant and don't mean anything. You don't even know what you're talking about.

  • The Eldorado is the dictionary definition of a personal luxury coupe. It's a shame that the upcoming CTS Coupe wasn't re-christened the ETC.

  • Lovely.

  • I just picked up one of these. Real nice car Champagne color with tan leather seats. Everything practically works only little nick knacks dont otherwise very classy car! i got it for 1,200 good price right?

  • For a base Eldo, I paid $3500 or so, nearly 4 grand. Mine was in VERY nice shape too. My first car, an 82 Olds Cutlass cost about $2500 at the time, 1990

  • Why are you telling your life story? Nobody asked you!

  • Good price if it's straight clean and runs good. these 79-85 Eldorados are becoming scarce as are other cads of this era and will appreciate in value.

  • Thanks for the informative comment

  • Thanks fo sharing this and so many other videos - they are a real treat.

  • These were classy cars, and this generation was the most popular version I believe. The 86s were such a disappointment. Sales volume dropped by 80% when the 86s came out. The 79-85s were so much nicer. They had STYLE, unlike the later models!

  • I couldn't have said it better myself...

The 1986 was not only a disappointment, but it was an insult to the proud "Eldorado"name..It looked too much like a Pontiac GrandAm..even when they restyled it in 1988 the damage was already done...

If you've notice the 1967 model at the beginning of the commercial that's what the 1979-1985 design was based on.

Get a close look at them & let me know what you see.

  • They messed up with the 86 Riviera and Toronado, too. The 86 Seville was a MUCH less nice looking car than the 85. I remember a magazine article where they parked an 86 Seville next to an 86 Grand Am sedan- they looked so much alike.

In 68, the Pontiac Grand Prix was a sales dud, so they redid it for 69. The Eldorado had been a prominent automobile. If sales were so bad for the 86s, why couldn't they do the same thing and redesign it for 87? And at least put a little chrome on them!

  • The 1987 model, like the 1986, was too far gone to even put a little chrome on them.

The rear decks on those Eldorados were too "stubby" & looked as if it were a used bar of soap.

The front fenders on those cars were not creased like the traditional Eldorados..

The 1988-1991 Eldorados were more or less of a "Band-Aid" fix. sales were at an estimated 33,000 in 1988 but never reached that high again.

The 67' Eldo design inspired the 69' Grand Prix

  • The three GM cross body platforms, Eldo and Seville being K and E bodies. That REALLY hurt GM competing with itself AND Lincoln division

  • There is some resemblance between the 67 and the 79-85s. It is a somewhat smaller car though.

  • As a 5 time owner of the 1979-1985 Eldorado...(currently own a 1985,my past were three 1981's and one 1982)..I thought it was poignant to show the 1st front wheel drive 1967 Eldorado to show the 1985 Eldorado's lineage.

These cars represent Cadillac at it's best.

The 1967 was great but my heart will always be with the 1979-1985 Eldorado sereis

  • All under design by Wayne Kady, the Eldo book section with him I scanned and uploaded to Photobucket this week if you look over there

  • Bill

I picked up that book on Cadillac Eldorados & read that section,You were right about Wayne Kady, did you also know that Irv Rybicki was also involved in it??

Here's a footnote of interest that Mr.Kady said in that book ; The 1979-1985 Eldorados were in development for 29 months (February 1976 to July 1978)

Thanks for sharing the info on the primary designer of the 1979 to 1985 Eldorado if you have more information send it on

  • Have you seen Maurice Hendry's book "Cadillac The Complete History"? It has Several photos of the various prototypes for the '79 Eldorado. Very interesting stuff.

  • AWESOME thanks i have always loved these cars they were a classic luxury car
