@IsisValkyrie As far as I can see the movie is not about the holocaust but about the pogrom's in Russia. Hints to this is the fact that the mice migrate from russia (not nazi-germany), during the same time as the Statue of Liberty is being built (iow not during WWII), the cat's are depicted as cossacs ( we even see glimpses of actual cossacs in the background killing the human families). [this might still be slightly inaccurate since the bif pogrom's by cossacs where around the decossacization]
I remember hearing this song on an unforgettable, great episode of Designing Women. The episode is called The First Day Of The Last Decade Of The Entire Twentieth Century. It was a great New Year's episode. The song Somewhere Out There played at the end of that Designing Women episode.

wow, I looked this up randomly while looking up other animated movie songs, brought back so many memories from when I was a child, didn't expect to start crying ='(
Sometimes there's a disadvantage to age...adulthood...I regret I was never the "right" age to truly embrace these animated classics ... alas, many of the youngsters who could have gotten a lot of the films like An American Tail had their faces buried in their computers ...Donkey Kong, anyone?
It's because the person that posted the second most liked comment says he's never seen this movie, or the neverending story, or the black cauldron, or the rescuers. I can't believe it. ):
@Riofan467 That is the scene in which he is looking into a classroom filled with American "schoolmice". It's based on a story Spielberg remembered about his grandfather, who told him that Jews were only able to listen to school lessons through open windows while sitting outside in the snow.
Estupenda canción, buena traducción, llama la atención la ortografía: perfecta en ambos idiomas, algo que no se ve todos los días en YouTube. Felicidades.
A wonderful song, a very good translation and perfect spelling in both languages (something seldom seen on You Tube even for a single one). Congrats.
This is one film that I think every student in middle school needs to watch. It teaches many items in American history. However, you would have to know the history to understand it.
Awww God I'm so heartbroken, Im f---ing crying I saw this when I was 6 and completely forgot about this movie, till a lady I recently began to date reminded me and told me to view these old trailers. Damn I'm 30 years old and, I never thought I'd be brought to tears at this age...............I'm such a wuss.
This was my Nanna & my song to each other, my Nanna back home in Africa & then me moving to the UK, the closest we could be really, I lost my Nanna & cry to this day
@bud389 The Rescuers is a great film, you'll enjoy it same with The Black Cauldron, I never seen the neverending story but this and the second films are timeless classic you'll want to keep coming back to watch it again and again, it's a film you should show your kids or if you find it buy it trust me, you'll love it
@bud389 oh my god you poor thing. well what are you doing on youtube?! get out there and see those movies!! well....except black cauldron. that one's iffy.
@evilhopscotch Why is the Black cauldron iffy? I've seen it (and read the book) and I saw nothing wrong with it... at least I'm talking about the Disney one...
