I think that there are a lot of Hispanics coming to the U.S. that refuse to learn English. Who gives a shit, if they want to clean floors all their lives than that's their problem. In the "U.S"(key work U.S), "U.S. Americans" speak English. In "America (key word America, meaning continents of the western hemisphere) we speak Spanish, Portuguese, French Canadian, and indigenous languages. But our country should have only English as the official language, so no matter how many other languages someone can speak, English will be at least one of them. Otherwise we will suffer Balkanization that has impaired the efficiency of other countries. By conducting business in English, you save costs, since 70 pages in English takes about 100 in Spanish. So there's the expense of more paper, ink, etc. by using Spanish instead of English.

America's education system needs to provide ppl with INTENSIVE Spanish classes if Spanish is going to be a requirement!!!! The Spanish classes here in the school system are bull shit, as they do not prepare ppl for the workplace!! Its just basic Spanish. what about the English speakers (natives)? they have bills to pay and they need to work and take care of their families!!! The problem is that English speakers (NATIVES) cannot get job as they are not Fluent in Spanish. Spanish should be a plus but not a require to get work. If the lanuguage is spoken amongst themsleves and they dont want to speak English, I really dont care, but the whole "Spanish is MUST" in job ads is ridiculous. The English speakers should not be restricted from gttng jobs

I am a filipino, i know how to speak the english language very well but i don't consider myself as an english speaker. So likewise with latinos in the usa, don't force them to speak a langauge they are not comfortable with. I know they know how to speak english even just a little. @alphaacad , I believe it's a gesture of appreciation to both languages that one requires the other to balance social tension between cultural and racial. We can't argue and be bias about this matter. The magnitude of Spanish speakers spreading around is significant and trying to deal the matter in hand by suppressing the latino audience in learning Spanish will only raise more social tension. It is in favor for us for both languages to serve their purposes so we can restore social balance.

@immicontfla Actually you are the one who is wrong... There is data which clearly shows that there is no language maintenance within families, i.e. the language is not passed down. By the third and fourth generations, only 20% of the population holds onto the language AT HOME; the others speak English. The only reason for the high number of Spanish speakers is because they are first generation immigrants. Their grandchildren will probably not speak any Spanish.

I'm not in USA but I decided to study English as a profession. It's something beautiful to be able to understand not only the language but the culture. People in Venezuela, for instance, want to learn English here, but once they are there, people stop learning it? I think that when we are in another country and want to be part of that country, we should learn their language too. It is not a matter of leaving our native countries behind, it's about growing.

We traveled together for our software company to France, Turkey, Germany, Taiwan, Singapore etc and he would tell people he was from the united states(United States of Mexico) or America(continent).
