I find when it comes to specifying genres based on country of origin it's safer to just use the umbrella term Black Metal or even Extreme Metal.

As for RC it's hard to put a box around them since they took black metal off the beaten path and in a sense revolutionized it. Besides their newer album is more gothic than their classic black metal image

rotting christ are playing rotting christ.you cant describe them as black metal cause they dont have the screams and the classical black metal riffs but it isnt death metal too.everyone i know,including the band,they dont consider that genre death metal but you.their atmosphere to passage to arcturo,the mighty contract and non serviam and also the project,though art lord,tends more to black than death metal though but it isnt pure black.rotting christ are playing rotting christ

In fact, Rotting Christ is hellenic black metal. This kind of black metal is different from scandinavian stuffs. Bands like Varathron, Rotting Christ or Order of the Ebon Hands are more melodic and "heavy metal influenced" than scandinavian BM.

And RC is usally described as "dark metal" now (but their first records are Black metal).

It's useless to argue about "dark metal" or "blackened death", Rotting Christ is Rotting Christ and has it's own sound.
