Good Job kids! I was born and raised in El Barrio and its seen its highs and lows. The people in the neighborhood haven't been giving the best chances to succeed and have suffered from a corrupt police dept for decades. The last 10 years its been steadily improving tho. The worst thing about the gentri. is big businesses are getting the money that the ppl of the community should be getting to develop their own businesses and jobs. Another + is the Barrio will have Hunter College on 3rd ave!
Young Men and Women.... nice job! We really like your video. Well spoken and nice video. A beautiful video on East Harlem. Please consider that people moving to Harlem may not be moving into your neighborhood by social choice. Those families may have been displaced from their own neighborhoods by rising economic costs and therefore are trying to find more affordable housing for their families. It is not their intention to displace families in your neighborhood. It's just economics!
very good video! born in raised in wagner! it has always been rough there. but beautiful at the same time!...i get my strength from this place called home!
No one can stop CHANGE, change is coming. People need to learn to adapt and prosper, if not, they will be obsolete. The truth hurts, but is REAL. Generations try and should strive to DO BETTER than their predecessors those that DON'T. Will not survive the future. This is no longer a racial issue its a class issue. Those that take "classes" post high school WILL fare better.
i hear there are still gang problems b/w mexican gangs and black bloods gangs. doesn't this mean that the neighborhood needs more gentrification to get these gangs out? no other methods have worked
I want to congratulate the START PREP for putting out this video it certainly hit home. I lived in El Barrio for over 20 years and I still called it home
man i hate how they trying to change the area, they will always try to keep us latinoes and blacks at the bottom istead of helping us , thats y we need to fight , instead of helping the lower class they just pushing them out
Yeah those were the days!!! Remember Sloans supermarket on first ave?? I hear that its been gone!!!! In 1976 we moved to Staten Island (Parkhill apts) I thought NOTHING could be worse than Wagner!! We were worng! Parkhill apts made Wagner projects look like Beverly HIlls!! LOL! Back in the 60's and 70's looking back Wagner either wasn't THAT bad or we were just use to it!
