  • Ancient Chinese Secret, huh?

  • What kind of light does a bonsai tree need?

  • Hi, i was wondering if you could help me. I have a bonsai tree for a little under a year now and it's suddenly started dying, all its leaves are turning yellow. It's autumn now - do bonsai trees loose their leaves like other trees? I've watered it when it's started getting dry, but not too much. i've kept it indoors out of direct sunlight but in some light. I've pruned it a bit. The only thing i haven't done is re-potted it but i'm not sure if i should or not? Any advice would be welcome

  • @expertvillage

someone told me something about trimming the trees roots to keep it small. Is this true ?

  • HEY! Bonsai is not chinese, it's Japanese. Probably the same thing to this guy.

  • @doubletreefunpark Many things we think of as Japanese have their origins in China. Bonsai is no exception. 盆景 or 盆栽 are the Chinese names for the origin of this art.

  • @doubletreefunpark ,It actually orginates from china.Still not convinced?Well then, check on any website you want especially the free enclopedia.

  • I live in Wisconsin, what should I do with my tree in winter? it is of the evergreen variety. I heard some places that you should leave it out like any other tree. I would really appreciate any help. please be specific. Thanks.

  • @Sk8club08 I read it's best to put it by a window sill to the south, because that's the direction the sun is, and it'll get the most light. East and west are second best, but don't put it by a window to the north, or else you'll have to get extra lights. Also, it wouldn't hurt to put like a try with gravel and water under it to help keep it humid around the bonsai.

  • i am hearing so many people saying that they have bought a bonsai tree and don't have a clue what to do, check out my channel DavidClarkeTV for some help with your new trees, i started 10 months ago so can help all you new starters, subscribe if you like what you see.

  • I have a bonsai and am still clueless..

  • I GOT A BONSAI YESTERDAY :D so i dont no what to do XD

  • @harn8700 give it to me then

  • poor tree, inhibited to a hobit when it can be a giant:/

  • I'm about to collect a bonsai tree that was given to me by a guy who works for a garden centre. I also got a dionaea muscipula 2 weeks ago and I must admit, I like watching the progress of the growth...maybe it might be boring to some people but I guess we all have different hobbies. The dionaea is obviously a more interesting plant though because it eats stuff....he he.

  • how do you make the leaves smaller if they already have grown big?

  • @MrSprett6 cut them off

  • cool thanks

  • IT WAS JAPANESE NOT CHINESE.... I hate when people think that just because they are asian they are the same thing... IS MEXICAN THE SAME AS HONDURAN??? NOOO>..

  • @zerocker45 Bonsai came from Chinese Penjing which was the original method... so actually, in this case Mexican is Honduran...

  • @zerocker45 Actually, a Chinese Elm is the particular kind of bonsai tree he is trimming.

  • @zerocker45 SI!

  • @zerocker45 they were BOTH Chinese and Japanese

  • @zerocker45 There are both kinds of Elms, Chinese and Japanese, this is a Chinese Elm.

  • @zerocker45 you sound like a angry japanese person :3

but ignore it. americans think that dutch people speak german that europe got horrible music. some europeans think americans are all rude. but jus IGNORE IT! EVERY ONE SAYS STUPID THINGS.

  • @zerocker45 Traditionally of course Bonsai is a Chinese art thou and later adapted by the Japanese. Two very different peoples but with a very common ancestry. Well said however. Ignorance means everyone thinks there is no difference between Vietnamese or Japanese when it could not be further from the truth. A shame because there are so many varied cultural differences that people are missing out on. A boring life if you ask me!!

  • set the tree free you cunt

  • @BMXBOBO hahaha this made me lol ! :)

  • that's no bonsai tree. that's a regular tree and a giant!

  • expert village sucks.

  • Bob Ross created Bonsai trees

  • oh yeah... Like Most Chinese Elms in my garden.... Cause you know i grow a shit-load'a Chinese Elms homie....

  • Hi, so if for example I planted an acorn (English oak) and just kept pruning it etc. would it turn into a bonsai? Thanks

  • Um, like, I am 13ish, and I have, like, ADHD, and stuff, and I'm gonna get one soon, and, uh, I am just a wee bit for-,um, -getful and so, like, we will, like, see how this goes and stuff. :D

  • a man found a hobby today...thank you basedgod

  • today i got my first bonsai tree its cost $12.85 cents i hope my bonsai tree dosent die i want it to live for a long time i want my bonsai tree to grow preety big.

  • I want one.

  • Try juniper bushes; they are wonderful to look at, and most look like a bonsai already!

  • Am in england, where can I get bonsai tree from and for how much? Can I grow them from seeds? Please tell the prices

  • @SherryProducations You can get a grown Bonsai from a plant nursery or online, but they can be expensive. Seeds are much cheaper but really, there is no such thing as a Bonsai seed. You can turn almost any tree into a Bonsai by maintaining it from a small size. Search any tree you want on Google Images and add "Bonsai" to the end. Chances are someone has grown one.

  • This actually helped me out a lot. I just bought to ficus bonsai a few days ago. I really love to have the elm but they all looked really cr@ppy at Walmart.

  • @OrthoFrog i actually got a ficus last month and killed it.... 25$ plant from Home Depot... too hot down here...

  • "uh.. if we never cut our hair, we will probably have quite long hair..." lmao

  • @jerithhayes xD haha

  • So... it's just pruning the tree before it get's too big? That keeps the leaves small and everything? That sounds simple... but I have no doubt I'll try it and it will be the hardest thing ever. I think I've found a new hobby though... it's nice to know that it's actually a simple process.

  • WHAT KIND OF TREE IS THAT

  • @gozaimas1 Its a Chinese Elm

  • Does the Tree need a specal seed or can I use eny tree sees cuz if I can use eny seed I'm making a oak

  • @pandyamuks The bonsai technique to hold various tree forms small in an elegant way originates from China. Japan adapted this art form much later from China as Japan adapted so many other aspects of the Chinese culture, mainly inspired by Confusius' works.

Think twice before making such ridiculous comment.

  • where to get bonsai trees?

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMY. You have one of these!!!

  • please some 1 tell me!!!!! how do i get moss to grow on my bonsai tree!!!!!!

  • @shia120 .. buy it?

  • im planning on growing one any tips

    about the tree type

  • @TheHaloCEfan Best to start with an evergreen (pine ,juniper,) evergreen meaning the tree stays green all the time!!

Best in full sun ,outdoors, water when dry (but water throughly) Needs good drainage!!!

Evergreen trees are easier to take care of ,but don't be temped to buy one at your local supermart or walmart!! These trees will almost surely die in a short time!! Buy one from a Bonsai dealer in your area! Check on-line for one near you and go have a look FIRST. Get one ,and your hooked!

  • @stuballs42 ok thank you :3

  • wow

    small weeds for small trees..

  • pflanzenlicht24.de

hier gibts die samen und bücher zum bonsai

  • hmmm jut bought my bonsai and my moss on the ground is turning brown. i water it daily and give it as much light as possible... but the moss stuff is still turning brown. any ideas?

  • this guy def. smoked this tree:))

  • @keremecker This is a very basic and simple way to take care of a semi completed Bonsai.

  • Was bonsai a chinese secret? u jackass it was japnese art...

  • @pandyamuks Bonsai was found in China. They construct a miniature city so that the king knows how it looks like from bird eye view. That was when Bonsai took place. When Japan formed, they treated Bonsai as an art and enhanced it. No doubt Japan Bonsai still have the best finishing and superp workmanship until now.

  • "if we never cut our hair we would probably have quite long hair"...I never would have guessed...

  • that green its just moss ?

  • @oOKisielOo yup..

  • @knazor121 thank you

  • ha im trying to make an Australian bonsai tree using a gum tree seedling well at least trying to make it a sort of miniture

  • @monsterzero3355 hah oh thanks

  • @Fendz ya u can grow bonsai from seeds and it really doesnt matter what kind of tree u get....for beginners a pine tree is most recomended because the y dont need as much care

  • "if we never cut pur hair..." "we would probably hae quite long hair" hahahar classic

  • Just treat a bonsai tree more or less like a normal tree, and they only last a few days indoors

  • Holy Crap! I found the cure for INSOMNIA!!

  • hydroponic bonsai,4 week and its allready fucked up mr miagis tree.

  • Gee growing a bonsai tree is so difficult and one needs a lot of patience to be able to come up with a perfect tree.

  • @Fendz they're only £25 ea in ikea

  • This guy reminds me of my friendly grandpa. I wish he was my neighbour so he could help me out.

  • i just got my first bonsai how often should i prune it its a japanese larch

  • im looking to buy a bonsai in the near future and i find the tree in this video rather interesting and beautiful. does anyone know what kind of tree this is and if you do and you comment back? thank you.

  • @Rcherf1 did you actually listen to the videos? he tells you what type of tre he is using (japanese elm)

  • O.C people can't have bonsai. Geddit?

  • My tree's leaves are HUGE, all of them are. They don't look anything like the average bonsai tree I see. Am I somehow doing something wrong? :s

  • @TylerJayVain hw often fo you prune it?

  • @shadowace421 I just got the tree in February, and I pruned it for the first time like two weeks ago. How much do I need to prune off the tree and how often?

  • so when you trim the tree does the trunk get thicker but the leaves stay the same size so it looks like a full grown ttree just to a very small scale

  • it is very difficult to take care of these dame trees i had one and it was cool but i did not no how to but it in a different pot so it died

  • ahmed

  • i have a beautiful chinese elm with a great curve but there is a problem... This morning i woke up and the tree had little black dots on the leaves and they dried up and fell off, so far i lost a lot of leaves but it looks like it has stopped, it gets full sun and i water it once a week and its indoors... idk whats wrond with it but maybe someone else does, please reply back asap if you know whats wrong, thank you

  • @iAirsoft69 It's a fungus thats on the leaves, you should google ''chinese elm tree black spots'' There is a whole load of info about it.

  • How much would a Bonsai tree cost at a Gardening store? (average).

  • @WarriorOfTheHeavens 30 dollars

  • @MyXboxFreak Seems a resonable price, thanks for the reply!

  • @WarriorOfTheHeavens yeah but i am making my own for the fun of it

  • @MyXboxFreak I suppose it is better growing your own from seed, the only problem is finding the seeds. Mabey I should see if I could order some?, but how long dose it take for it to grow to the one in the youtube video?

  • @WarriorOfTheHeavens this tree is about 2 years old. but my tree is a jupter

  • @MyXboxFreak Do you keep a diary of your tree? because it seems quite hard to look after it.

  • @WarriorOfTheHeavens its not hard. i have grape vine bonsai. it take alot of practice for the tree to grown in your own way. keep pruning it every once a week for years and you will be award with your art

  • @MyXboxFreak Thank You for the reply's...Take care!

  • Yea and also when i go up to the roof to tan i take my bonsai tree with me to get some sun light and i go a lot so that helps it. My tree hates me and i cant really give it a good climate and i think my tree hates smog too but i take it with me anyway. :(

  • @jdfox1 You know, since a know a thing or two about growing plants and stuff you are really not the first person I´ve met to be fascinated by these small miniature trees, and they are beautful, I think so too!

But at the same time they are NOT easy to grow on your balcony if you are not really into it and treat them like babies! You gotta know where they come from and avoid extremy climatechanges (No sun half the day and extreme sun the other half for example!..)

  • @jdfox1

Getting a species not capable of adjusting to the environment you can give it is doomed to fail! It is like getting an orchid from a cloudrainforest and trying to get it to adjust in a desertlike environment! It just won´t thrive! YOU got to adjust to the tree, and not the other way around! But if you first fail, and them get a species that fits the environment you can give it, it will probably be very rewarding for you! .. :-)

  • @jdfox1 You know I would never get a bonsai myself, cause they are expensive and if you forget them another persons long work (sometimes decades) with getting the tree in its present state will be ruined and the tree will die! You gotta be very consistent and never forget about your "babytree" or it will die. It is a comitment of a lifetime and a bonsai will live much longer than a cat!! .. ;-) I have too much respect for the trees and people who deal in the craft to get one myself!... :-)

  • I bought a cactus last year and because its a desert plant I watered it every day but it fell apart and now my second bonsai tree is brown. I dont care about the expense much because i want some plants that my cat wont eat. Cant do much about the environment stuff i dont live on a lower floor but i LOVE my tree even if its brown. Im very commited to my tree and the plant store said a bonsai tree is easy but its NOT. I want more plants now that summer is almost here.

  • @jdfox1 hahaha!

I bet you DO love your trees, you seem to be that kind of person, and I bet you DO hurt when you can´t give your trees the right environment to get them to thrive! But maybe you are aiming to high??

Well, good luck to you any way on getting your apartment/balcony like a green oasis in the "urban desert"!! :-)

  • My first bonsai tree a piece fell off and it must have been an important piece because it died. My second tree had stuff on it and its turning brown i think smog is killing my bonsai tree.

  • @jdfox1

Hey, bonsaitrees are delicate and exclusive things! Not something for the beginner not used to growing plants/flowers! If you look at where these trees are grown professionally, they are often put quite close together wish makes a kind of moist microclimate. Also they are usually covered with some kind of shading net so that the soil in these small pots won´t dry out that fast!

  • Yea but i dont have all that stuff my tree hates me. My tree doesnt get as much light as it should but i water it everyday to keep the dirt wet. I bought some fertilizer stuff for it too. I grew a flower in a pot but it got cold and died and its cold in the winter and i bring my bonsai tree in but i have to hide it from my cat. I dont have a good climate and my tree is brown i dont think it should be brown.

  • @jdfox1 you shouldn't need to water it every day, just make sure the soil is always damp, not wet. when putting it outside, i'm sure you're aware that you can't expose it to direct sunlight unless there are quite a few clouds out. perfect sun and heat doesn't do it any favors, nor does the wind, make sure it's protected from the wind.

also, you only need to fertilize it once a month, twice might be fine, but once is enough.

one last thing, keep the leaves moist by spraying them daily :) :)

  • @MiK3i Yea my bonsai tree doesn't get much light I take it with me to the pool for light and i have to keep it outside because my cat will eat it and the smog and stuff is bad. Yea i put some fertilizer stuff they gave me on my tree but only once. My first tree that died I never fertilized. I watered everyday but my tree died and my current tree is brown and i still like it but imma get a new bonsai tree when it dies. Thank you! :)

  • @jdfox1 i just got a bonsai tree, and it says on the label that if you water it too much, there can be a fungal infection. Maybe water it less and give it a bit more light?

  • @PerspectiveStudios yea not much i can do about the light i take it to the roof when i tan but my balcony dont get much light sometimes. Its all brown and crunchy now i think its dead but i still water it maybe it'll come back if not i'll get another. Thanks.

  • @jdfox1 lolz

  • @jdfox1 lol @ your tree hating u !

  • @jdfox1 ... When you move a tree like this you have to adjust it slowly to it´s new environment (not too much sun at the beginning and keep control of the moist in the pot! (there are instruments to use for this)!

Spray the leaves to create a more moist environment often.

  • @jdfox1 .. and if it is windy it makes the soil in the pot dry out faster. And it probably don´t like poluted air eihter (and who does anyway?).

Because of the small pot these trees are very sensiteve to changes when moving them, and you really need to know how to make a good microclimate at home to get the tree keep on growing! NOT that easy!!

  • @jdfox1

Is it sooty mold? mabey google the symptom

  • @djdescent Thank you i'll check on that its just brown and looks hideous. :(

  • @jdfox1 Mine was killed by BP... acid rain + 40 year old japanese maple = death

  • @bleachworthy yea im not sure if mine is dead or not i still water it but the smog did it. :(

  • might be mold , fungus or something. Try spraying your tree with fungicide, pesticide ( just make sure that you dont use full force, bout 0,25 - 0,33 of recomended quantity.) If you have smog , take it inside, spray it's leaves with water ( distilled best because there is no leftover when the water dries) and if that doesn't work, go to some online bonsai forum , post pictures of your tree and yell HELP, MY TREE IS DYING. Good luck, hope your tree lives

  • @MrSmartComment yea maybe i put some stuff on it but its brown and crunchy i think its dead and my cat will eat it if i take it inside oh well im going to get another tree. Thanks. :)

  • @jdfox1 who's smog? and have you notified the police?

  • @jdfox1 Do you live in a crowded city?

  • is there Anyone who will help me With Growing a bonsai because nothing online Will help me

Message me On here Please and thank you

  • that is beautiful!!!

  • this tree is kind of ugly..

  • can it live outdoor even if there's a cold weather?

  • Very good :) nicely done.

Thank you very much, thanks for the tips.

  • kool

  • I tried to watch this video three times, the old chap is so boring that I couldnt finish it!

  • a 30 second ad for a 3 min video this advertising is pathetic its ruining youtube

  • How can I bring a Bonsai back to life? I went away for a couple of days and when I returned all the leaves were dropping off. It was in a light place but not far from a heater so the soil was dry. I removed and socked in water for 10 mins. The trunk looks ok but it now has lost all its leaves. Any ideas on how I can bring this four year old tree back to its former glory?

  • My poor Bonsai has shed all its leaves because I went away for 3 days and it was near a radiaor. ive taken it out of the pot and left in water for 5 months to refresh, any other ideas? it is a four year old tree.

  • @chrisiex1 I meant 5 minutes lol not 5 months.

  • @chrisiex1 lmfao

  • i though bonsai have fat roots ...

  • i just got one that has full sized leaves, so is it still possible to get the leaves small by trimming them?

  • yes but i wont be health i think

  • @NorseRonin Inside or outside?

About mid spring/early summer you can remove all the leaves (decidous only) by cutting them off at the stem. Leave a little stem on the tree. The new leaves will be smaller, and more branching. Do this only on a healthy, thriving tree.

  • ok thank you :)

it's an inside tree, and i don't know what it is, i've tried to look it up, it's some sort of japanese tree though, that's what i was told.

  • @NorseRonin

Jerry Meislic has a Really Good book on Ficus and INDOOR Bonsai care in general.

Lot of good usable info on light needs.

  • thanks raiun, i appreciate the advice and the book suggestion, i'll definitely try and get a hold of a copy :)

  • @raiun42 Hey I just started to bonsai I just transplanted my azalea into my pot and put in the soil and such...its been a week now and when do I start triming and when do i start shaping message me back please

  • @2high2aim

Your tree will be stressed from the repotting/root pruning. Let it rest awhile and regain strength. Don't wiggle, push, readjust, wire or anything untill it is growing and secure in the pot. Give it the proper light/weather/water for the species.

Let it rest/regain strength, while you read and study Bonsai books and online articles to find out what is needed. IMO most new Bonsai are killed by too much kindness.

    Good INFO on Evergr--n Gard-n Work S

  • what do you call that grassy stuff above the soil? or is that the soil?

    amatuer speaking.

  • moss

  • That grassy stuff above the soil is called moss, which is alot like grass but smaller. It often grows on the Bonsai's trunk and on the soil, usually when the soil is good soil or well fertilized.

Commonly, in your Bonsai pot, weeds and clovers can grow. Bonsai with these growing should be cleaned of them, because they are a weak plant that mostly rely on trees and other plants to live, thus, they suck the plant's energy and water. If there are enough of them in a Bonsai pot, they can kill it.

  • its moss

  • moss :L

  • very peaceful - very useful - Izu

  • how can i wire my bonsai tree?

  • my tree if i touch it the leaf things fall off but it didnt do that before why???

and i know its real i did some tests and saw dna

  • hi.. i saw all the videos.. but i have a ques..

i have a forest next to my house with many types of plants and trees .,,.

can i cut a small growing plant of lets say 5 - 8 inches(which would eventually grow to a tree if left in the wild ) with its roots and use it to bonsai ..

or are there specially cut plants..

    help asap ..

  • Any tree´s/bushes can be made into bonsai... You shouldn´t ask people from ExpertVillage about anything.. most of them don´t have a clue about what their doing, like this guy.

  • well, if you watched the videos, he said any tree can be used

  • hey i have a chinese elm bonsai and i have some general care questions as im not really a gardener of any sort. any help would be greatly apreciated.

    1. some of the leaves on the tree havet turned yellow.should i trim them

    2. how often should i water it and how much.

    3. im keepin it on my window sil for light but as i live in the uk and its starting to go into wnter im worried that it might be too cold for it. is it allright where it is,

    thanks

  • @cadwyn101 it all depends on what species of tree you have but 1. yes you should pluck dead/dying leaves 2. I let my soil feel dry to the touch for about 1-2 days and then water (at which point the soil stays moist for about 5 days or so, then has a 1-2 day dry out period, then I water again) 3. never keep a bonsai in a window sil, they can be kept close by on a table but never in a sil, there is too much heat/cold fluctuations. Make sure they are no where near a heating register/coil.

  • maby you should also buy a lamp specially for plants. don´t keep it too close ´cos of the possible heat. it can be useful in winter

  • what do you do if the rocks are glued together? like i pulled on one and with a little force it snapped. does this mean i could just get a chisel or something to get them off because its time for the tree to get repotted

  • To prevent the leaves from falling, you have to: keep the temperature at 75, do not move the tree from the spot were it's doing well.

  • im watering my bonsai good, room temp with AC in house and in sunlight 4 days of week..watering it 3 tablespoons a day..its really small..looks like a prickly tree and its getting brown spots on its leafs..what am i doing wrong?? =((

  • @TheEpiph0neBassist you are incorrectly watering your bonsai, make sure you temp is around 73f or 22c. buy a good book on bonsai care and you will learn how to properly maintain a bonsai

  • Has anyone bonsai'd grass to use in place of moss? I hear that it can be done and looks better than moss.

  • i keep reading that for cypress you have to pinch it.... i dont know what this means!!! if anyone knows how to do this please let me know! anybody!!

  • Use ur thumb and index, or middle finger and use ur nail to pinch of the foliage. Or branch, depending on what ur doing :D

  • Hi mine keeps looseing its leaves then growing them back... it sounds stupid cause ye they are meant to do that but mine is doing it all the time every month what should I do, its summer and it has no leaves in winter it had them and its started to grow a few again

  • can someone please tell me how to plant the moss like where to gett moss....best time to plant it...best kind to gtfet please send me a messatgfe
