Songs like this were the very reason I bunked off school...just to listen to them in my own little world and they still manage to give me that warm feeling today just as they did back in the 60s ...classic song, a wonderful singer.
I'm looking through an enjoyable coffee table book about classic 60's album covers and there's Kathy Kirby, featured alongside the Stones, Lulu, the Zombies, Them with Van Morrison, and others on the "England's Greatest Hitmakers" cover. Kathy Kirby?? Who was she?? I search her on YouTube and presto! A nice song, and a reminder that just because an artist didn't go major here in the U.S. doesn't mean they didn't have their day, back in the day. Thanks for the upload!
Lots of us rockers! loved kathy, her looks, her personality and most of all her voice. Those days were without a doubt a lot happier, we had less and yet we had more... I personally feel a yearning for this era with singers like kathy, Connie, Helen, Billy, etc etc... call me old fashioned but the age of technology is not a patch on the 60's.
I always thought it was lip gloss (but not manufactured then I understand). At a WI meeting recently I was told that Kathy used Vaseline. A lovely lady who will always be remembered.
@kpmvc From the first time I heard her sing "Secret Love" I was in love with this gorgeous lady and Dance On was phenomenal she was so underated but what a voice and so beautiful. It hurts to know she's no longer with us from one of your adoring MODS of the sixties you'll always live for me "KATHY" Patrickxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
My Hearthrob of the sixties without doubt, great looking, great singer who just oozed class in the days when pop stars had just started to degenerate, the lyrics were either bouncy like this one or of a more romantic nature, never crude or suggestive she was the end of an era in truth,it did go downhill from Kathy,RIP sweetheart and thanks for the memories.
I always remembered what a stunningly beautiful girl she was, but had almost forgotten what a stupendously brilliant singer she was. They just don't make them like that any more.
A great talent, sadly missed by many, unknown by so many more.Medium avaliable today would have ensured 'popularity' and SUCCESS. RIP Kathy. PS I beleive I am one of few Aussies who would have heard of this Lady!
R.I.P. KATHY - YOU WERE THE EPITOME OF GLAMOUR (NOT LIKE SOME OF THE GIRL SINGERS OF TODAY (AMY WINEHOUSE BEING ONE OF THEM) AND VERY PROFESSIONAL TOO ~(IN YOUR WORK) VERY SAD THAT ONCE THE HITS DRIED UP FELL ON HARD TIMES (WHEN THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN SOMEONE TO HAVE HELPED GET YOUR CAREER BACK ON TOP.
What a shame. I vaguely remembered Kathy but just remembered her as a singer from when I was little. She died 2 days ago and now all of a sudden I look her up on Youtube and realise she had a great voice. Very neglected for the talent she had. My apologies for not hearing you earlier. RIP
RIP Kathy, loved her to bits, her life would make for a great film but i don't think that they would be able to find an actress that good looking & that could sing that good.
Could someone explain why I have never heard of her in America?...what a voice!!!...was she not promoted over here?.....the songs she should have recorded...what a tragedy
@rainstormz28 I was thinking the same thing. Considering how Americans place much emphasis on good looks, she definitely would have passed that test along with her great voice.
Too bad she never sang a duet with Alma Cogan - THAT would have been interesting... Or perhaps a trio composed of Alma, Helen Shapiro, and Kathy Kirby.
@shmuli9 Funny you should say that: because in the late 1950s & early 1960s Kathy Kirby use to live at 49 Tomswood Hill, Barking side, Ilford, & Alma Cogan lived at the top of Tomswood Hill: my older brother used to deliver both there newspapers. We lived inside the grounds of Claybury hospital; my dad worked there.
Best ever tribute, as to a passing resemblance, she would have passed for M.M at President Kennedy's birthday!!! I heard recently that her fan club had pitched in, and renovated her home, and she was very happy with the result
is it really 47 years since this was number one........ what a great song and great photos . lovely photo of kathy and cliff. still got the old decca 45.......
only just realise Kathy Kirby had a hit on 'Dance on' having seen Cilla Black's version with the Shadows.. Kirby sound great on this instrumental hit. enjoy this posting...

I used to ask my mum why her lips were so shiny, Mum said it was so that when men tried to kiss her they would slide off!
Pretty good answer to a nosy 6 year old.
