  • I think Joy Division should be everyone's favourite post-punk band... a humble opinion

  • @PassengersMusic777 I agree

  • Nice list

  • What's The chameleon song¿¿

  • @Hideouspenguin500 Monkey land

  • @Richmarkhill78 Thank's ñ__ñ

  • EXELENTES BANDAS AMIGO, BUEN VIDEO.

  • Glad to see The Chameleons in the top three. Such a wonderful band.

  • joy division!!

  • We are a product of our times. The best way to date a person is to ask them what music they are into. In my case, it is Post Punk-Pre -Grunge (1978-1992). Everyone Loves Echo & the Bunnymen, The The, Talk Talk, Sisters of Mercy, Sousie/Banchees, Joy Division. As of 2011, my quest is to discover the ones I missed: Pink Turns Blue 17 Pygmies The Fall/Adult Net Chameleons (UK) Comstat Angles Lush Wire Train And Also the Trees Blancmonge The Box
  • the cure is the best band ever, joy division is the second best band ever and what is that song from the sound?(im starting to like that band!)olz tell MEEEEEE!!

  • joy division is god

  • That Gang of Four song is great,

  • Marvelous!

  • could be interesting....anyway off the top of my head and in no particular order:

the fall, PIL, wire, joy division, cocteau twins, the birthday party, the go-betweens, killing joke, pere ubu, the cramps

but im not sure what these categories really mean.

  • Clearly its your opinion.

And in my opinion comsat angels and the wild swans have all the "emotional punch" of a wet weekend in wigan.

Won't argue with wire or joy division mind you.

  • Interesting simile usage - to be fair neither songs by Wild swans or C.A. in this video are anywhere near their best. They certainly project more emotion into their songs than Mark .E. Smith does, who just sounds constantly miffed in all his compositions.

Why don't you make your top ten Post Punk countdown video, it would make a good companion piece to this one. There's quite a few bands I wanted in the top ten that didn't quite make it like - Magazine, The Homosexuals, Josef K, and The Names.

  • A wet weekend in wigan? You'd be hard pressed to find too many people that think Waiting For A Miracle doesn't pack a serious punch! Have you ever REALLY listened to the band? Wild Swans aren't everyone's cup o' tea - kinda like Associates. A bit fey, but no less emotional than the Comsat Angels. The Fall has about five good albums out of 100+

  • @kozmo99 Live at the Witch Trials, Dragnet, Grotesque, Hex Enduction Hour, Slates, Perverted by Language, Room to Live, The Wonderful and Frightening, This Nation's Saving Grace, Bend Sinister, The Frentz Experiment... oops, eleven already. :P

  • TOP TEN POST PUNK BANDS in my book - in no particular order >>> orange juice tie w/ the smiths pylon tie w/ Drinking Electricity gang of four tie w/ TV personalities the raincoats tie w/ Scars homosexuals tie w/ Desperate Bicycles swell maps tie w/ Los Microwaves family fodder tie w/ Gina X Performance The Wake tie w/ Wild Swans bow wow wow tie w/ xex fire engines tie w/ eyeless in gaza ok i cheated and left a bunch out - it's jut an impossible list to make !
  • Yes,wheres PIL? And wheres The Fall? Theres quite a lot of the more posy, mediocre stuff on this.

  • It's quite clearly stated in the info box that these are my personal top ten, not the definitive run down.

As much as admire Public image and The Fall musically, they don't pack the emotional punch the other bands do - They fall short on writing decent melodies and song structures. Often just looping a riff with little variety or structure.

  • @Richmarkhill78 Thats what lots of Post Punk was like, the idea was to create atmosphere, not play complicated guitar parts.

    Hence the "punk"

  • @Richmarkhill78 "Often just looping a riff with little variety or structure." You do realize that you just explained pretty much every joy division song ever written, right? Hell, even new order.

  • Posy, mediocre stuff ? Who? I'd say that this list highlights some of the most neglected bands in ALL of music - Plus, it's all subjective. I think PIL and The Fall are far too heralded....

  • It makes sense to have Joy Division as #1 mainly cuz they were the first Post- Punk band. Great post by the way!

  • wats the cure song?

  • 100 Years - From the album 'Pornography.'

  • all of these bands are post punk because of the time they were in which is the late 70s early 80s and the fact that they made music 4 themselves and not radio, it just so happened that some of them were so talented that they sounded very approchable thus being able to be played on radio but they didnt care about all that kind of fame. thus paving the way for these less radio friendly bands that are out now that are being called "alternative pop rock" when they are really just post punk bands!!

  • what about the Jesus and Mery Chain?

  • JAMC are more shoegazing than post punk - Great band nevertheless.

  • fuck the genres...

but where are PUBLIC IMAGE LIMITED???

the best band of this years!!!

  • Joy Division maybe 1st but The Sound we're the coolest and the most real, accessible and relevant!

  • joy division first as usual, how typical.

    :D

  • Typical certainly, but most importantly accurate. :D

  • :))))))))))

  • very good your list friend, but I think you forgot to put some other bands like Siouxsie and the Banshees, Baroque Bordello, The Adventures, All About Eve, Pink Turns Blue among others, The Chameleons UK is also a wonderful band but doesn't belong to the genre post but the indie punk like The Psychedelic Furs, this is not a criticism please, and in my opinion The Sound is the best band of that genre.

I think you should make a second part of this video hehehe

  • I didn't forget, I'm simply listing my own personal top ten. I hate to disagree with you, but The Chameleons are regarded as post punk by music historians and critics. Check their Wikipedia page the first line describes them as a post punk band from the 80's. :)

  • i thought gang of four was a punk band?

  • You're right in a way, they were part of a sub-genre known as post punk or new wave. Which basically took the idea of punk a step further and made it more intricate and layered.
