The A Standard is the "automatic" qualifying time for an event. The B Standard is the backup qualifying time. To be guaranteed a spot in an Olympic event, you must both earn a slot from your country (number of slots may vary by event and by country) and have achieved the A standard. If there are not enough participants around the world who have qualified that way, then competitors with B Standard times may be added to "make the event competitive."
lagat is so superior to all other american runners its not even funny everybody talks about tyson gay but he doesnt even have the best time going in to the olympics lagat will just kill others in the 1500 and 5000
He sucked at life. He burnt up, he spent half of the race in the outside lane wasting his energy by running unnecessary metres, he ran poorly which he has been known to do..."Carlsbad 5000 dnf" "USA 8k championships 24th place finish"
I don't know what has happened to Alan over the years. He certainly has the leg speed to do well in the 1500. Because he has the A standard in the 1500, he is on the Olympic Team as an alternate. In other words, he is fourth in line.
It's a long shot, but Alan may still get to run in Beijing. If one of the top three guys gets injured and cannot run, the US track and field coach will move Alan up and allow him to compete.
