  • I wish I was as fast as guys like Huffman, Ryland, and Duplantis. That'd be sick. Imagine if Huffman was 6'2 with his speed, he would have jumped so much higher than he did. Mad props to the roll.

  • 2:55 beautiful style over the bar lol.. love it

  • what is the name of the first guy????

  • @bjb111 Scott Huffman

  • Pole vaulting is the most epic event! it makes your heart drop when you see people in the air, but when they get inverted and drop onto the mat without dropping the cross bar its just an awesome sight!

  • scott huffman is fucking epic

  • It was good until everyone started to fail. Bummer

  • When I'm supposed to study, I watch this and a whole lot of other pole vault videos. Gotta love it . . . . .

  • @DunmireD001 and @Triplejracing

    STFU NO ONE CARES

  • toby stevenson has one funny victory dance...ahahahah

  • Easy mr redshirt... I have already beet u this year but I will give u another chance during outdoor. Haha

  • @DunmireD001 uh huh, you just wait dunmire, i was also running from 2 less steps!

  • im a collegiate vaulter

  • HAHAHAHA!!!! Dunmire this is John I've been fucking with you this whole time! Too bad you'll never be the vaulter i am... btich!

  • I believe that a 5 m vault in high school at this time in the year would rank you in the top 5 in the nation and certainly in the top 10

  • thats how bubka set the world record... and thats why people started beating huffman

  • the people who beat huffman are better vaulters, plain and simple... they are better because the vault with better form which allows them to use bigger poles... you may be able t vault high with bad form, but the only way to get any higher is to use a bigger pole, which requires better form

  • of course huffman is strong... look at how ripped he is... im saying his form is bad tho... ist usually the stronher vaulters that have the worst form...but huffman could have been much better had he learned the right technique... bubka is the perfect blend of form and streingth... thats why he is the best.

  • @DunmireD001 5m meters is an impressive height but i hope you can keep that... Most guys who go into college jumping 16+ are the ones who drop down to 14ft vaulters...And highschool means nothing Tim Mack jumped 13'6 in highschool and went on to win 2004 olympic Gold. Lets leave the cockiness and the egos out alright? Cheers mate.

  • Five meters isn't high?... Hahahahaha... Try sixteen feet 4.8 inches... Keep dreaming... Oh and FYI I cleared thirteen six as a freshman in high school and right now I'm a freshman in college... Grow up a little bit more before u try to talk smack about something that u know nothing about

  • Well im sure i will be jumping 5m by the time i am a senior, i am really fast and really strong. I bet you are lying too because you seem like one of those people that know a lot about the sport but never were good at it so you comment on youtube videos to make yourself feel better.

  • HA walker didnt even clear 5m in high school... but if you can push 2 feet off of the top of a 15 ft pole then by all means do it, but its half technique and half strength... if you force the bend, you will stall

  • @DunmireD001 well in college 5m isnt that high... thats like jumping 13 in high school it good but your not going to win anything... you would know this if you were in a good district im also in college and we have 3 ( that are freshman) guys going over 5.2m and 2 (freshman one of tham is me) going over 5.5m. so plz stop talking shit to kids in high school.. by the way me and my team have only jump for 3 to 4 years if you only jump 16 after 6 years you need to look for a new soprt.

  • @620mPV WOW u are such a bad ass... can i have your autograph??? really.is that what u want??? triplejracing is my teammate and he is over 5m also... we were just acting like jackasses via youtube by mouthing eachother...its not about who vaults the highest... no matter what, its fun as hell, win or lose... u worry about the competition and we wil go do what we do best... vaulting, dirt biking, cliff diving, ping pong... we do it all... LIKE A BOSS!

  • now watch the second vaulter in the vid. see the difference

  • you sir know nothing and learn how to spell, i have jumped 11ft already and im just a freshman in HS i dunno what 5m is but i bet its not high

  • @Triplejracing Uh ohh big guy vaulting 11 feet here, Better watch out, lol @ 5m isnt high

  • notice how huffman has to let go of the pole, even tho he is three feet away from the bar... this is because he curls up in a ball right after he takes off, witch reduces his penetration...

  • oh and there is a such thing as... "good jump, bad form"

  • if you want to be a weak vaulter, vault like huffman... if you want to be a great vaulter, vault like bubka... i suggest 4 you to watch him vault. and tell me the difference

  • huffman held the american record up until walker just broke it... that is not weak. even walker bends both of his knees on the end of his swing, it gives a more explosive invert

  • @DunmireD001 if you want to be a weak vaulter vault like huffman? you got to be joking. huffman's vaulting style isnt as good as bubka's but the huffman roll can be just as effective as the regular style if done correctly. so i wouldnt consider huffman's style as being "weak"

  • and triplejracing... you will probly always be a weak vaulter, because you have only been doing it a year, and already you think you know everything about it... i have been vaulting for six years, i have cleared 5m. and i still show room for improvement.

  • he could probly be tthe next bubka if he sept his trail leg and didnt curl up in a ball.

  • the second guy in the vidoe does all of these things very well.

  • ok... the reason he, and so many others do the roll is because they are too weak to hold a good takeoff position, witch prevents him from being able to swing his trail leg through, allowing him to get inverted... and you dont need lowere body any more than you need upper body streingth... you need fast, explosive legs, a strong upper body, (to hold a good takeoff position) and great core streinght to help get inverted.

  • The very first guy shown in this video has terrible form!

  • You obviously don't know the first thing about pole vaulting... i've only been vaulting for a little over a year now and know that that was a very good jump and it is another form.

  • umm his name is scott huffman, and thats called the huffman roll. he used to have the american pole vault record of 19.6 feet i think.

  • fucking sick vid, i just wish there was a better song for it. and to anyone on this thread who is bragging about PR's, get a life.

  • stop at 3:07

  • stop braggin angelica

  • I'm 16 and was compeeting in the WYC in Italy. I saw this film thee day before the competition and afterwards I was so excited that I won :D I jumped 4,32m with a PB outside on 4,12m before. Thanks

  • Comment removed

  • I'm 16, and I just can reach 3m10 for the moment. Someday you will see me at the Olympic Games ;-)

  • Well, i'm fifteen and i can do 4.55 meters ill see you there ahah ;P good luck

  • Well, i think you practise pole vaulting longer than me ;)

  • lol ahah yah i started when i was 12 how about you?

  • I started 8 month ago :)

  • man thats pretty good !! over here in missouri pole vaulting is alot more popular than other states so we have it in middle school

  • Comment removed

  • whose the first vaulter in the video

  • scott huffman

  • 2:03 is Tommy Skipper. He graduated from my high school!

  • yes it requires your abs, shoulders, tricep, bicep, not alot of forarm, and and make sure to work onyour speed. i recomend doing hand stand pushups for begineers. do 10 sets of 10 each day after practice unless you have a meet the next day. you should also do about 1000 crunches a day and do planks and v rocks. GOOD LUCK! it is fun im in 8th grade and is looking to get 10'6 this year :)

  • lol i wish i could do handstand pushups. right now for my vaulting i just do a couple hundred pushups and situps/crunches almost everyday

  • ummmmmmmm no! the main thing u need to pole vault is a strong lower body so you can drive straight through and bend the pole. if you have only upper body strength and no lower body, u will have no speed, u wont jump high, and you will load the crap out of the pole and break it.

  • Can anyone anser this? Why is Toby Stevenson such a tool?

  • ablsoluly not. i dont get it. hes so fucking good but i lost all respect for him cuz hes the bigest tool in not only pole vauling but sports in general. like after you jump 19 feet why do you have to fucking ride your stick like a fucking donkey. so gay

  • best sport ever. nuff said

  • I second that

  • I third that!

  • @pullmyfoot All in favor say "I" I!

I Love pole vaulting with a passion.

  • Good Job Kid.

  • Gene great mix dudé ;D

  • ha ha he he tee hee! ha ha ha! the stick broke at 2:23!

  • what is the average height and weight of guys and girls

  • i used a 14'1" 180 spirit, but i only weight 140 and that thing fired me like a cannonball, then i got sick for a week and had to stiff pole a 140 pound pole...i was so depressed cause that killed my season

  • hey you seem like an experienced pole vaulter... how much upper body strength is involed im doing vaulting for the first time on march 2 and i wanna no...

  • in general pole vault has a lot of upper body strength, but first time vaulting you *probably* wont need it, i think youll just be trying to kick your feet above your hands and flopping over for the most part. But eventually youll need upper body strength and speed and such

  • i have done pole vautling for about a year and what i think requires strength is your chest, abs and arms and for me it was my lower back as well because everytime i went over the bar i would stretch my back... I think u will be fine if u r in some what of good shape, good luck its fun

  • k ummm dont listen to any of these guys, sure you need upper body, but lower body is the most important. you need to have a powerful run and jump hard and high.

  • This video gets me pumped. I should watch this before every meet, maybe i'll jump higher lol. Great video.

  • i broke a pacer a couple months ago. it was so good to me. way better than the same exact spirit i had.

  • i don't like pacers, all the ones i've had have been pretty heavy compared to their UCS counterparts. They bend really easy though. Shame the lose some of that off the top as a result.

From my experience (which isn't much tbh lol) UCS are the hotness.

  • I love spirits. i personally think their the best. my school is just cheap and didnt have another one i could go onto. so i moved to the pacer which was just a little stiffer. i liked it and it sucks that it broke. but honestly i would still have liked to move onto a bigger spirit. and yeah ucs is really good at bein lightweight. except for the pacer III's

  • who keeps marking all the comments negative??

  • My dad vaulted againt huffman in high school

  • catapole is where its at baby.

  • the guy that vaults first does exactly waht i do when i vault!

  • hahaha, do you jump that high as well?

  • i wish i can only get 11 ft like that

  • Im in eigth grade and i only clear 9 feet.

  • hey u cant diss huffman he was the american record holder for years

not to mention his style is infamous

  • stevenson sucks weiner

  • does anyone know what brand of poles toby stevenson uses?

  • he vaults on Cata poles. only person in the world at his level that does very strainge. as a huge % use carbon Pacer FX. my self included as i found they are the best poles.

  • spirit is still the most popular brand among the top vaulters. "best poles"? depend on what you like, pacer are light but pretty hard in the beginning. spirit are heavier but smoother. i know russians who thinks pacer are to light, its hard to use other poles after.

  • carbon pacer FX has such a great energy return too, i like essx poles, but i blow through them pretty easily

so im a spirit man right now

  • ucs spirit for me. i think they allow for a smoother more consistent vault.

  • i just moved up to my 14 foot 155 spirit. Throws me up so much faster and harder than my catapole. i just haven't penetrated far enough in yet =( it'll happen in a few practices if that

  • ehhh... the movement stops too much at the bottom of the bend for my taste.... although it makes up for it in its great hoop strength... i dunno... i prefere a rocket... it may be a slower moving pole, but at least it doesn't stop at any point, and the hoops strength is almost as good...

  • does anyone know what brand of poles toby stevenson uses?

  • that first one's form was hilarious

  • cool, thanks^^

  • yea..its animal i have become by three days grace

  • do anyone know the song of the video??

  • sounds like a vaulter.

  • last year a kid at my school landed half on the mat and half on the concrete and was bleeding everywhere but he was at practice the next day

  • Hey guys, I am in 8th grade and vault 9' with a 10'100lb. Skypole. Any tips?

  • post a video... i can't tell what your strengths/weaknesses are unless you post something... when you do, message me i wanna see them...

  • his name is daniel ryland and his coach is earl bell

  • my coatch is in here at 2:40 and he jumps 19'3"

  • wait... your coach is toby stevenson? or is it justin norberg?... lol... if you have one of the for your coach... you are one lucky lucky man... by the way.. you dont spell coach with a t... lol

  • IF telling the truth, idkmybffthomas is probably talking about Norberg. We all know that Toby's gone way over 19'3

  • which i can still safely say... i doubt its true... but who knows... i've heard of stranger things...

  • thanks for not giving me bad rep though =]

  • yeah toby jumped over 6 meters in 2004, 6.00 meters is 19 ft. 8 in. so he's in the upper class of jumpers but he's a jackass.

  • youre an idiot, stevenson is not a jackass, he brings entertainment to the sport. im sure you have never actually talked to him cuz i have n hes real chill and nice... so suck a big one

  • ok dude i never said he wasn't a cool guy, but after he jumps he acts like he's never cleared a height. I'd be enthralled to talk to him, maybe get advice and whatnot, but it's like I don't like him. You don't know what I was thinking so you can fuck off you and don't talk to me if you don't know me you moron.

  • Yeah, Toby is a cool guy but he gets way too excited after his vaults. Like at the 2004 olympics, he celebrated as if he had won the competition, but Tim mack topped him and made him look kind of stupid. Funny because Tim Mack barley celebrated at all.

  • It's the way he jumps..different type of jumping. His form is just fine.

  • huffmin rocks.

  • i just started im in 10th and 1A privit schools first meet was 8 then 9,10, and now 11 foot soo at 11'6" im going to states top 4 and i can't wait... its addicting...

  • sick vid...

    just started polevaulting..

  • huffman

  • who is the dude in the begining at the beach, the one who does the splits to get over than spins sidways once he does? all i can remember is that his first starts with a H.

  • this is a great video!!! i actually just got into pole vaulting

  • nvmd i found the answer to my question its called animal i have become by three days grace for anyone that wants to know

  • great video....im also trying to find out the name of this song does anyone know?

  • by the way ... whats the name of this song? ... its good =]

  • watched this video a million times adn i went from jumping 8ft to 14ft in 2 weeks.this video is amazing!

  • thats a lie... i believe Max improvement of 2 feet... thats if you really relaly really worked on it... not 6 feet... no way...

  • i agree ... that 6ft improvement is bullshit

  • funny story!!

i just started pole vaultin like 8 months ago and my pb is 10'6 (in comp) for some reason i could never get over 11 DAMNIT!!!! but then i came home one day AnD i watched this video...the next day i watched it again like 5 times b4 i left for practice...when i got there...i sat 11'6...THIS VIDEO IS GOD!!!

  • What exactly do you have to require (physically) in order to be able to excel in this event?

  • 1. speed

    2. hops i.e long jump skills

    3. strength

    4. guts

    5. coordination, many gymnast are good at pole vault

  • wow... thats pretty cool but wat would happen if the pole splits in half... lol

  • lol It happens.

You lose over $400, hurt your hand and wrist and risk missing the pit or getting impaled O_o

  • the first guy jumps really wierd. at first i thought he was going to hit his balls

  • Scott huffman jumped 5.97 doing that. All that matters is that you clear the bar.

  • who's the first guy jumping?

  • was Matt hoffmen i think its spelt like that

inventer off the hoffmen roll jumped 5:85m i think his PB is

  • Its SCOTT huffman. He PR was 5.97

  • thanx for the correction :)

i did not relise it was that high Dam and ppl who say the stright leg to pike is the best lol :)

  • well obviously it is the best, he didn't go 6.14 did he?

  • Scott huffman.

  • This is a sick sick video. Skipper and bullard seem to soar over that bar every time.

They've announced that the California High school "At large" mark is 14'10 for the pole vault for the 2008 outdoor season.

The Favorite to win state- Nico weiler, PR- 17'06".4

    Wow.

  • Woops. I mean Buller.

  • ahah shit dude... CT states mark is 11 ft for outdoor... ahahh... and favored to win is like 15-16 ft... ahhhah goes to show that state size is a really big factor...

  • Yup It's crazy. I competed in a section (which is huge) in california where there were atleast 25 guys going 14 feet or better.

  • i love pole vault !

  • That first one was CRAZY

  • Great video dude..........

  • wow in missouri class 4 ....... 15'6" won state the last three tears

  • f** dude. i feel like a jackass. lol oh well this season, i am going to hit 14. im lifting right now and sprint workouts and can walk on my hands for a long time. im determined, but i still feel like a jackass lol

  • the qualifing height was 12' 3". i live in mn btw

  • wow...I california, the at- large mark for the pole vault was, i think 15 feet.

  • 15 feet is qualifying down there? holy shit. i live in minnesota, so not too many people can get up there. i think 15'2" won state last year.

  • yeah man the guys around here are monsters! umm the past 4 years..maybe 5 the lowest winning state height has been no lower than 17 feet...=o

  • well... i feel good where i'm at here but obviously i'd be a joke there. oh well. what do you get?

  • hey around here 12'6 is still good for a freshman or soph. So just keep at it.

i got 14'10 and i only advanced to state prelims because my Section is weak. I didnt compete at state cuz of grades =/ btu i would have gotten routed!

  • lame. im a freshmen this year. last year i went 12' 6" missed state cuz of a broken ankle.

  • state??

    so you competed varsity?

what was the Qualifying height where ever you live???

  • that was ment to be a reply to somone elses message but it did nto work sorry great video

  • i only vaulted this season, during season... march to may. first year of vaulting, made 13 feet. i had an awesome coach and my dad vaulted in college so i had a lot of help all the time

  • im a junoir and ive cleared 10 ft 6 so far im not really an avid vaulter though next year howeveer....

  • amazing sport. wow

  • ashley you probably suck 2

  • all you people that started sophmore year are retarded i started as a jounior!

  • ur not even in high school >.<

  • cool

  • since we are all talking about wat we did.... started track sophmore year started vaulting at the last 2 months of outdoor and hit 12' 9'' beat that .. haha

  • I have been jumping 4 months now and have gotten 3.55meters about 11'7"

  • wow

  • I love vaulting. Started my sophomore year last year and hit 10' 3" before the season was over, take in mind that was my first year and I am about 5' 2" tall and about 105 lbs. But I am working out to add a bit of weight. I can't wait to start vaulting again! Sweet vid!

  • yeah i know what u mean. I am an avid water polo player (goalie) and i joined track this year to keep my legs strong for next water polo soeason. However, halfway through the season I started having knee problems, and there was an opening in the pole vault team so i tried it..and now im hooked. I vulted for 4 weeks that season and by the end i made it over 10 feet, so i guess i did pretty well. Hoping to reach 12 or 13 after next season.

  • I thought your vid rocked! I was a prodigy pole vaulter in Middle School, (13'6" at 14 yrs). Sergie Bubka ? was my hero. I moved to a school my freshman year where they didn't have vaulting, moved back for my sophomore year, broke ankle, and that was it, went from collegiate hopeful to pictures in a year book, I thought your video Rocked! Good Luck!

  • JUST SHUT THE FUCK UP ALL YOU HATERS!

Pole vault is a great sport. It's fun to do. LEAVE IT AT THAT.

  • wow, russ bullard and tommy skipper are pretty damn beastly...

  • his name is Yoo Kim he is the Korean National Record Holder, 2004 Olympian, former UCLA Vaulter

  • I forget hes Korean though and on a scholorship I think. you could probably find him on youtube.
