i remember the epic fight i had with my parents in best buy to get this game when i was little. So many years have past but i think it is the greatest game i have ever played. balanced, great music, variations in factions.

There are some balance issues, though. Once you get a good Briton longbowman army going, nothing can really stop it. Same with the Saracen mamelukes.

@MarsionLove I have Windows 7 and it works fine, but the color issue is there. Download the update, that may fix the crashing. I've had this game since 1999 when it came out and started playing it again yesterday :)

I always used the Vikings or Celts, Vikings for there ships, and celts cuz they are good all around and have a increase of wood supply which is always helpful seeing as well you use wood the most, without cheats ya know.

Teuton's and Byzanties were always my money shot the teuts cos their Teutonic knights seemed to be resistant against virtually everything sept cataphracts and Byzanties cos im a cavalry person and i luved the cataphracts from AOE1 and the new ones did not dissapoint. However i am British and i kinda like them too and their longbowmen are amazing they wiv full tech they can tear infantry apart.

I used to play as the Persians a lot, since I used to wait until I was fully advanced to attack and the Elephants were incredibly resistant and powerful (but slow). However when I got the expansion I discovered that the Spanish Galleons were a remarkable force. They shot fast and far, they did much damage. So I always go for Spanish in maps with water because they're so potent and can take out entire civilizations in Island maps.
