I've met McFarlane and have interviewed him. I wouldn't call him pompous, but he is definitely a 'type A' personality. While I may not always care for what he does, I respect him for going toe-to-toe with the Big Two in a market that beats down the indies.
I wanted to ask about that in the interview but was advised by their PR person that it was a topic best avoided. Lots of hatred between the two guys, so I hear.
Jose: Sentry flies off into space, crying all the way to Jupitor or pluto and something happens to him where he's absorbed by darkness. Meanwhile, back on Earth, the Skrulls are attacking NYC and a Super-Skrull attacks Avengers Tower, where it finds Sentry's wife. Suddenly, the Sentry swoops in, kills the Skrull and saves his wife, but the Sentry is all Black and says something like "Robert wasn't strong enough to deal with what was happening, so I took over" and the book just ends.
Thanks for the info Johnny. Did that actually happen in Secret Invasion? If not what book was it? After you mentioned it I vaguely remember reading something like that but I don't know where.
I think it was the first Mighty Avengers Secret Invasion tie-in issue. I think he merged with the Void or something like that. In typical Bendis fashion, Bendis doesn't explain what the Hell he is writing.
I don't know what the Hell happened to Loeb. He wrote some of my favorite Batman stories. He wrote "Hush", "Long Halloween" and "Dark Victory". He went Hollywood on us. Sold his f***n' soul!
As a comic book store employee, I personally can't wait to read (not buy) everything Jeph Loeb writes. This guy has gone completely bananas. The Hulk eating pancakes and banging some chick in a hotel? Wow.
I feel the exact same way man. If I didn't work at a shop I would never pay to read his books. They are enjoyable in the same way that All Star Batman and Robin (aka The Goddamn Batman) is.
It's exactly the same type of entertainment as All Star Batman. Although, I must admit that issue with the Green Lantern where Batman paints everything yellow was amazing.
You are right, deemar. Have you noticed that when it comes to super-powerful character like Sentry or Doctor Strange, Bendis writes them as being incompetent or utterly useless.
It seems he either has no idea what to do with them or doesn't care to figure out how to manage their power levels within the context of his stories.
Just look at what Rick Remender did with Sentry vs Punisher, he was savy enough on how to balance to abilities of two completely different characters to great effect
As I understood it The Sentry was meant to be the marvel universes equivalent to Superman, a ridiculously overpowered hero. but that kind of power level just dosen't work in the Marvel U so they hobble him with all the void stuff.
It just dosen't work. And as for Doctor Strange in the Avengers? He just seems like a clueless idiot most of the time.
Hey Truth. You can listen to the interview over on the Word Balloon website. The part we talk about takes place within the first 10 minutes of the Jeph Loeb Report Vol. 2 Part 1.
JEPH LOEB killed the hulk comics.

Right on brother, Loeb is appalling.

Loeb sounds like such a pompus prick. It always happens to these guys once they hit it big. and dont have the work to back it up.
McFarlane is like this too.

That's just my opinion.

His toys are definitely better than his comics though.
And he should really stop dicking neil gaiman around regarding the Miracleman rights.

They need to get Paul Jenkins to write an 18 issue maxiseries to explain all that ;)

Along with Adam Sandler and Kevin James. I see that Paul Blart: Mall Cop was the #1 film at the box-office.
That's a sign of the apocalypse for sure.

Jeph Loeb = Michael Bay
That's it, the guy is a shadow of his former self.

I'm really tired of the Sentry as he currently is, a character with great potential that is time after time wasted by Marvel

Thanks, now that you mention Dr Strange, WTH is going on with him now? I hear Marvel is gonna replace him as the sorcerer supreme for a while

And Jeph Loeb has the HULK BEAT THE SENTRY!?!? He has the power of a THOUSAND EXPLODING SUNS!!!
WTF!!!
That's my rant on that.

Loeb probably wanted the hulk to have sex with the sentry after they were done fighting :P

oh, I've totally forget one of the best write in the industry: J. MICHAEL STRACZYNSKI !
Amazing write, he is Writing Thor and wrote two of the best spider man stories I've ever read: Back In Black and One more day!

Saar, good call on Joe Mike. I'm really enjoyed his Spiderman run, even when other fanboys were deriding it for 'disregarding' continuity.

JMS wrote the story that turned me off Amazing since then, the appalling Sins Past.
I'm just glad that JR JR was finished the book by then so I didn't feel like I was losing anything when I threw those issues in the bin.
