  • Cool tank, and very healthy looking turtles! I got two MAP turtles a couple of months back now and they are just amazing! Such great pets as they are so interesting and so low maintenance! Have you tried feeding them some of the other frozen food blocks? They do one with turkey heart and shrimp etc in which goes down very well with mine! Also I was going to ask, what are those tiny fish that I can see in the tank, and how warm do you have your water? Thanks!

  • The tiny fishes are feeder mollies. Also, the water temperature is at room temperature, I dont have a heater or chiller. Im in Hawaii and our year round average temperature here is 75-80degrees. No I haven't tried any of the frozen type foods for them. I try to feed them foods that they would eat if they were in the wild, mostly just worms, fish, shrimp, tiny-baby crabs, greens (romaine lettuce), and turtle pellets.

  • Hi I have a Red Ear Slider Turtle would my turtle get along with these ones?

  • Yes, they should get along fine. However, Red Ear Sliders do grow much larger than Maps do. Maps grow to max sizes of approx. 5-8inches, where as Sliders will grow approx. 10-13inches.

  • What do you feed them?

  • I feed them aquatic turtle pellets & sticks daily, dried blood worms every other day, dried shrimp or krill about 2 times a week, and whenever I have fresh shrimp or fish for dinner I'll cut up small pieces and give it to them, they just love it. Once in awhile I'll put a romaine lettuce leaf in the tank for them to pick on. Thats about it! I do spoil them!

  • No, I don't think they are too friendly. They are actually very skittish by nature. However, you can hold them but they'll keep trying to away. They are basically the type of turtles that you would just enjoy watching, as far as handling them and interacting with them that wont really happen much due to their skittish nature.

  • beuatiful tank! nice turtles i want to get 2 of them to put in my new 120 gallon tank

  • Thanks! That would be a great size tank to use, have fun!!

  • Hard to say, what r u trying to feed them? Also, how is the condition of their shell? Try giving it a very gentle squeeze to see if their shell is soft or solid. If its somewhat soft, then its not doing too well. Add the "turtle block/conditioner" to the water. If everything seems ok, then your turtles may need to either just adjust to their surroundings or they may be very finicky eaters. If thats the case, try different pellets or even some tiny pieces of raw fish or shrimp, or brine shrimp.

  • my two inch mississippi map turtle killed 6 of my 1 inch tetras in one night and completely ate 5 out of 6 of them, any comments???

  • Turtles do eat small fish. Sometimes they get spoiled by feeding them everyday, then they'll normally stop bothering the live fish. They'll get lazy and not chase the fish around and wait for you to feed them instead. Buy cheap feeder fish for your tank. My turtles are so lazy now, my tank is full with feeder fish. I tried to not feed them for 3 days, they didn't touch any of the fish and waited for me to feed them on the 4th day. When I first got them they did chase & eat the feeder fishes too.

  • kool if u don't mind me asking where did u get your map turtle? and how many gallons is ur tank. Nice vid and kool setup

  • This tank in the video a a 20gal/long. However, I have them in a 55gal now, they are bigger at about 5inches (shell, head to tail) and I have a total of 4 turtles now. They are doing just great! I got them from our local pet store (I know the owner).

  • How are the turts?? do you Still Have them???

  • They are doing just great. They are approx. 5inches now, and now I have a total of 4 turtles. They are all approx. the same age and size, 3 females & 1 male. I will post a video soon. Thanks for asking!

  • will the adult mississippi map still eat the reptomin(small turtle pellets)

  • Yes they do. I also feed them dried shrimp, once in awhile some romaine lettuce, and small-tiny pieces of fresh fish. They've gotten lazy and prefer to not chase the fish in the tank for food. They wait for me to feed them!

  • Fabulous tank!!! I am very impressed, not many people take such great care :)

  • ive got a 95 l tank and 2 turtles in it lol i use stuff in the water like coz ere in northyorkshire the water aint that good

  • what type of water do you use? do you just get it out the tap and put it in? or what?

  • Yes, I use tap water. I'm in Hawaii and the area I live in has excellent water, just as good as bottled water. Sometimes I'll put in a turtle block (neutralizer), just because. I feel if you dont have excellent water in your area then you will have to add additives to your water, just like you would a fish tank!

  • How big is this tank?

  • In this video its a 20L. I now have them in a 55gal. with river rocks, no gravel, they are much bigger now!

  • thx the answer

  • i love your turtles =]

but you do need rock instead of gravel , they might eat it.

make sure you keep your tank size up!

i made an impulsive buy today on craigslist for a 70 gallon tank for 50 bucks.

so i decided to get a map turtle.

  • Thank you! They are in a larger tank now because they are much bigger and they now have river rocks!

  • Graptemys pseudogeografica kohnii e graptemys ouachitensis O.

  • Looks like theyre both mississippi map turtles. I have one along with two red ear sliders.

  • i agree.

  • The one with the thick bars behind it's eyes you see briefly in the starting is an Ouachita Map turtle. And the one with the thiner yellow markings that go almost around his eye is a Mississippi Map turtle. Austin's Turtle Page has caresheets for both subspecies (Search for it on Google). You might want to be careful with the gravel, they tend to eat it and have can get gut impaction which leads to death. Large river rock is much better or a bare bottom.

  • Thank you....You seem to be right, I checked out the page you suggested. I'll change up the gravel to rocks instead. Never knew that they may eat the gravel. Thanks alot, appreciated your comments!!

  • cute ive added a clip of mine too

  • the one with the yellow crescent around the eye looks to be a mississippi, and the one with the big yellow dot near the eye seems to be either a Ouachita or Common map turtle. =)

    cute turtles!

  • Thank you...The pet shop I bought them from only knew that they were Map Turtles (not exactly what kind).

  • Hey! check out my turtle too!! It is the same as yours.

  • Cute....Looks exactly like mine! How old is your turtle?

  • I'm getting map turtles at some stage, after watching this clip I want them nooooow!

  • They're fun and cute to watch, however, they do require alot of care & attention. If you do get a turtle, post a video clip, I'd like to see them! :o)

  • mississppi map or black nob saw back

  • Thanks!
