These ARE degage's. "Jete" means "thrown" in french, and there are many different types of jete's in ballet (grand jete, tour jete, jete en tournant, etc.) but all of them involve jumping, having BOTH legs extended in the air. In this case, one leg remains grounded while the other leg brushes and lifts off the floor, hence it is a degage.
This video is great: not exciting, but serves its purpose in that it demonstrates degage's for beginners.
Here's the deal sweetie...I'm a grown woman and you're irritating. Plain and simple. The fact that you have so much to say tells me that you MUST be a world renowned dancer, right??
"Called me on something"...I don't think so. You're not very bright and this is honestly beneath me. So, I'm not going to take up any more of this space replying to you. Like I said before inbox me and we can discuss it. Otherwise, I'm done.
Haha, I can't resist... sorry. This is just so priceless. You complain about me refusing to stop, yet here you, replying to me every single time!!!! So doesn't that make you just as bad as me? Just sayin...
But seriously, okay, I'm done. Even if you reply again. So for real this time, have a good night and I SINCERELY hope we never run into each other again ;)
Yeah, I agree with "ytisprettycool77" I can´t see any passion..it´s more "Well, i have to do it, but it´s horrible" Sorry, but you really don´t look enthusiastic

First of all, this is an academic, instructional video. The dancer, a professionally trained ballerina in one of the United States' top companies (Abigail Mentzer, trained at SAB), is demonstrating a proper degage within the Balanchine style of technique. In Balanchine technique, one always keeps the head facing straight forward for barre work (at least for tendus and degages).
I know, this is on the Pennsylvania ballet site. I think it is funny how all these people know better (on the other videos too) and you have loads of thumbs down.
@ytisprettycool77 I hardly think this is the height of passion for her in dance...this is like if you chastised a violinist for not passionately~ running through the scales when she's spreading rosin on the strings. :}
Some things are just more technical than others; but if it falls under the thing you love, chances are you care about it, too.
She's not moving her head... she's like a robot doing the exercise
