  • The title to this video had me in tears for some reason. And I hadn't even watched the sketch yet :P

  • Stephen Fry should present the real Countdown!

  • I've never laughed so much at the word 'right'. xD

  • Carol Vordermann (is that how one spells her name?) right so eh... Very intelligent lady but can't stand the smug attitude. Her and Richard were irritation combined. Right so eh...

  • Is it just me or is the guy in dictionary corner supposed to be Gyles Brandreth.

  • It's also taking the mickey on the time countdown had 'c*ntflaps' written on their board :)

  • TWAT!

  • Right, so er.. right

  • I want one of those sweaters. xD

  • I wonder how Gyles Brandreth felt about being parodied (guy in Dictionary Corner) in this sketch. It is so him (the pretentiousness, the voice, the sweater). Hilarious!

  • The next person I hear that says right is getting punched...

  • I think that is Rebecca Front playing Carol Vorderman. She went on to star in Nighty Night and The Thick of It.

  • Omg, Simon Sad and Liz Tragic haha

  • It's also funny to know that Countdown is one of Stephen's favourite shows!

  • 6 people have their sloblocks in a twist

  • 'wankers'

  • They didn't go for the obvious... that's just bollocks! This is coming from an American that's saying something!

  • @TheAllBlackMan you do realise, that thats actually a sketch, not a quiz show?

  • Stephen was on the show as the Guardian once.

  • laughing so hard about stephen here, he's so funny xD

  • oh come on! this game is complete Bollocks!

  • @Zoras88 you mean, sloblock :P

  • snl take notes. that's how you mock a show. i can't believe these two accomplished so much by themselves! Sheer brilliance.

  • Does anyone notice the illusion in the background where the spots appear when you aren't concentrating on them?

  • @David1994Daly that's quiet common phenomenon, these type of grids, especially if it's used for the sake of the perceptual illusion is called hermann-grid after a man called hermann who investigated the mysteries of perception :D

  • @David1994Daly DANGIT thats exactly what i was gonna say ^^ lol

  • The ironic part is that Stephen Fry has admitted to loving Countdown.

  • I saw this sketch and thought it was really funny.

Then I saw what this sketch was spoofing, re-watched this, and laughed my ass off.

  • You want me to comment, so I won't..

    Just to see your disapointment!

    Hahahahahahaha!!!!!!-

    Oh Damn....

  • 1:19.... Riiight xD

  • Be sure to track down the one about the Robert Robinsons - It complements this one very well!

  • Is that weathergirl Sian Lloyd putting the letters up?

  • love the illusion behind them ;D

  • Am I the only one who noticed the word TWAT on the guy's sweater?

  • @badcompanyization Er...no.

  • @badcompanyization no which makes you one

  • @zghvbn1 I found your comment laugably ironic. But you do need to get a life.

  • @badcompanyization I'll wait for the rapture

  • There are only 8 spaces for letters.

  • Stepehn fry is genius

  • Why is there no audio for the second half of the video?

  • Fry has got that character down SO well.

  • But did they have to make fun of Carol?

  • @rnm1011 - I agree, there's no satire here. It was just like watching Countdown. :)

  • In the original script of this sketch, there's a conundrum after the letters round. The clock ticks down, none of the contestants are brave enough to guess. Richard reveals the word.

    And the word is:

    *PATHETIC*

    :)

  • Even the title cracks me up.

  • this program is a load of sloblock ..

  • Hem...bollocks? LOL

  • Love the rolling of the Rs in "scrrrrrotums"

  • Good four each of you!

  • @DragonSporks Yes, I think that's my fav ,moment too

  • This sketch is definitely not a load of "sloblock"!

  • Classic!

  • sloblock

  • The twat was hilarious!!! lmao. The only thing I would say is, plz, if you would, give us an idea in the description of what they're supposed to be doing, if it wasn't for some clues I picked up from reading the other comments, I would have been confused instead of amused.

  • Basically it's taking the mickey out of the show.

Richard whitley for his bad jokes and constantly saying "right"

    The contestants are all sad

Everyone in dictionary corner are usually posh twats.

That's why the word bollocks come up when they were picking the letters.

They believe the show is a load of bollocks (or sloblock)

    I think that's right anyway

  • There's nothing wrong with me, I was explaining the sketch to a user who asked what the sktch was about and what the joke was.

    It's called kindness!

  • @jh94 Stephen Fry since then has actually said he loves the show, in the special on BBC4 about all the things he loves. But everything else you're bang on.

  • @jh94 "They believe the show is a load of bollocks (or sloblock)" Stephen Fry is a big fan of Countdown, you know.

  • This one is a classic. In reality in Countdown you have to pick at least three vowels, but then I always thought that rule was a load of Sloblock.

  • And also they pick nine letters, but then the joke wouldn't have worked.

  • rrright lmao

  • The way Stephen smirks every time he makes a pun is hilarious!

    "right, so... right"

  • Never thought Stephen Fry funny: Watch him and Hugh in Black Adder then, hilarious!

  • bloody brill, stephen fry was brill as whitely, but the guy in dictionary corner as giles brandreht wa magnificent

  • Hahahaa this has me breathless from laughing!

  • God Stephen looks like postman pat

  • i have never found stephen fry funny- until i saw this today! LMFAO!!!

  • That's Bollocks that it

  • so he does.....i wonder why?

  • Its funny you should say that...

  • it is the same guy it's hugh laurie

i thought every boddy knew xd

    gr

  • He is

  • I'd forgotten Slobblock!!!

  • Ah man, sooo funny. Forgotten how good Stephen Fry managed to do Richard Whitely in this !! First class comedy

  • Still as funny as when first broadcast. I saw Stephen Fry on Countdown years later. Richard Whitely told him that he'd seen this sketch and as a result consciously cut out saying "well.....right" so often from then on.

  • Never seen this one before. Amazing. I suppose hell does look and feel something like this - right down to that god awful music.

  • Stephen Fry takes off Whitely perfectly, right down to the god awful jokes and dreary tone of voice.

  • Stephen's face at 1:00 is UNBELIEVEABLE. I can't put my finger on why, but it's probably the funniest thing ever in the history of comedy. I implore everyone to check it out.

  • stephen is hilarious in this lol

  • It is painfully accurate.

I want that 'TWAT' jumper. It's brilliant.

  • Not to ruin the sketch but when Carol chose 'look' couldn't she easily have added an 's' for 5 letters?

  • I just "upped" you two a thumb. Hope you're feeling better.

  • WOW lol

  • I'd forgotten how funny this sketch is, Stephen Fry really got Richard Whiteley's comments and gestures down!

  • ha!

  • Do you know what...I never even noticed the TWAT jumper.

  • KevL75 i've noticed your comments on a lot of videos i've watched, you write an awful lot of comments dude!!

  • Who is the actor playing the guardian of the dictionary?

  • I don't know his name, but I do remember back in the late 80's watching him on the original Whose Line Is It Anyway?

(it started first on British television but Americans don't like being reminded of this!)

  • I think it's Steve Steen

  • It is indeed Steve Steen.

  • that background messes with my eyes..AHH

  • right so uhhhh..... right

  • bollocks

  • "Right".

  • That was hilarious!

  • Hey, that's Huge Laurie!

  • If you're going to state the obvious at least spell his name right.

Thank you so much for pointing it out anyway - we would never have known had you not told us....

    Berk.

  • Actually, I didn't read the description at all when I was watching this video. Didn't look at the obvious when I wanted to comment.

  • Still felt the need to tell everyone what they already knew though.

  • hilarious just hilarious

  • they used the same joke when they did Richard Whitley's Gotcha
