The old g 250 models are much cooler. The windshield, doors and roof are all removealbe much like the beloved jeep. They are also still currently in use with the German Mountain Infantry here in Bavaria and are deployed in afghanistan.

@gclass500 hi there, its not 100% production ends in 2015, the armies that ordered it has a contract to keep getting them to 2015, after that they may renew the contract to order more, or not -- it was the army contract that ends 2015, not the mercedes production end. mercedes may still make them without that contract-- yeah but being said better to be safe order in 2014 i say!

id like to put this car up against my 2003 land rover discovery hse7 see what happens........i had a 2002 s430 i had to get rid of it cuz it had so many problems it wasnt even worth fixing i was crushed till i got my discovery it reminds me of my s430 and some it has power,luxury,beauty and it out performs any other truck on the road plus never has any problems :) eats anything i throw at it nothing like a land rover.... land rover is king!!

Range Rovers are for people who don't ever go off-road. Seriously, how many range rover owners actually take their vehicles off-road. I can guarantee that there is a much higher percentage of g-class owners that take theirs off-road. I have actually owned both of them and can tell you that the g-class is a much better vehicle, and holds up much better as well. Range rovers are basically a never ending series of problems. G-class - only basic maintenance.

Why don't you compare Range Rover with an M-class and a Gl-class, huh? Land Rover is what you should be looking for. It costs a whole lot less, it's far simpler, it has a better history, it would annihilate every G-wagon on the off-road courses. To be honest I haven't seen a G-wagon in ages. G-wagon is just a rich man's toy.
@Dragsteryourself Actually My Friend Used To Have an Range Rover Supersport. When he tried to take it offroad, his front airbag blew which cost him $1600. Then his transmission went out 2 weeks later $3700 and if he hadnt have sold it there probably would have been more. So thats why more people would go with the G-Class because it is a lot more reliable. with the same off-road ability, better safety and a better resale value.
There's one........... God on and off-road you are all forgetting, THE world's best 4X4, THE ICONIC RANGE ROVER! This car is simply unbreakable. If you buy it you'll have it for a life time. And even with the long version there is no top that can't be crossed. In my opinion the greatest vehicle of all time.

Ok. I don't usually reply to things like this but I figure I have a little to say on this matter. My dad has had 2 G-500's. A 2004 and a 2008 I think he said, as well as I think 1 or 2 Lexus Lx470's (last generation Landcruisers). In his opinion the G-500 outperformed the Landcruiser's in everyway off road and he never got stuck in the G-500's. Mind you, they were all armored so that does change the off road abilities some. I don't know why I bothered replying except I'm sick of Lancruisers.

That is far from true. In the world market Mercedes-Benz offers many different models than they do in America and not all of them are luxury. Mercedes-Benz used to make the highest quality cars on the planet. Since the merger with Chrysler quality has gone down, but has been on the rise the past few years. American entry models like the C, GLK, and ML (for example) class are not what I would consider to be cars for only 'rich' people.
i see it all the time. the best part is when a person has a AMG and he gets the bill for brakes and rotors 50% of them fall over and the other 50% just dont give a sh%t.

I got my 1983 MB 300sd FOR FREE! I dont need a brand new Mercedes to have a good quality car and a person doesn't need to be rich to own one, hence my background info. MB's are NOT reserved for the rich.
Maybe the car is expensive, but the maintenance ain't thanks to quality and uniformity, compare that to a Japanese car whose parts are twice as expensive, scarce and change every few years.
Look at the om617 engine, it's in the E-class, the S-class, the G-class, the Unimog, the MB-trac, boats etc.

@thekkl true, my 190 D with 400.000 km and no probs at all tell the same story. BTW their quality didn't really drop, it is the electronic stuff that was introduced that had so many errors. Competitors had the same problems when they introduced it at the same time, and only when they introduced them years later, they didn't have that problems BUT they then always have to close a "invention-gap" (lets call it that way, sorry for my bad english)

Regarding "refrigerator doors": the doors still sound a compact click when they`re closed just like when it left the factory...Not like the crap that`s (love the Queen) built with the weels attached to the chassi... Two railroad bars holding the axels are a perfect duo in a traffic accident: A guy hit a tank-truck (parked) in 90 km/h and actually broke a leg...Try to break a leg in any other car:) he bought a new g-class.

@mediamadman747 mercedes has this lighting system thats mainly found in Europe where if the headlights are on, a fog light turns on corresponding to the direction the car is turning. Turn right = right fog lamp turns on.

This car is simply unbreakable. If you buy it you'll have it for a life time. And even with the long version there is no top that can't be crossed. In my opinion the greatest vehicle of all time.

Maybach 62S to be driven in, and MB SLS to drive in. DUH. hmm, if money werent an issue I would get a maybach exelero also just for the heck of it, shit just down right ridiculous in terms of looks. Only thing I wondering about weather to get he 10k ALU BEAM paint option for the SLS or just the traditional black, choice choices choices.

Ok. I don't usually reply to things like this but I figure I have a little to say on this matter. My dad has had 2 G-500's. A 2004 and a 2008 I think he said, as well as I think 1 or 2 Lexus Lx470's (last generation Landcruisers). In his opinion the G-500 outperformed the Landcruiser's in everyway off road and he never got stuck in the G-500's. Mind you, they were all armored so that does change the off road abilities some. I don't know why I bothered replying except I'm sick of Lancruisers.

That is far from true. In the world market Mercedes-Benz offers many different models than they do in America and not all of them are luxury. Mercedes-Benz used to make the highest quality cars on the planet. Since the merger with Chrysler quality has gone down, but has been on the rise the past few years. American entry models like the C, GLK, and ML (for example) class are not what I would consider to be cars for only 'rich' people.

@worlddxb that's because you can find the perfect car at mercedes whatever car you`re looking for(executive compact car,luxury car,sports car and others)and in almost all of the categories they're the best , the only thing that it's not perfect at mercedes it's the price,but that's the price you need to pay for perfection unfortunetly they're are some cars at mercedes that need to be replaced(i think the A class needs to be replaced with a sport hothatch and a sport jeep with E class design

I am 18 years old, I come from a small Texas town, in the middle to middle-upper class, im going to college, I work at a beauty supply store 3 days a week, but every other week, making $7.50 an hour, my dad is a car mechanic and owns his own shop and my mom works at a bank. I got my 1983 MB 300sd FOR FREE! I dont need a brand new Mercedes to have a good quality car and a person doesn't need to be rich to own one, hence my background info. MB's are NOT reserved for the rich.

Maybe the car is expensive, but the maintenance ain't thanks to quality and uniformity, compare that to a Japanese car whose parts are twice as expensive, scarce and change every few years.
Look at the om617 engine, it's in the E-class, the S-class, the G-class, the Unimog, the MB-trac, boats etc.

@worlddxb While having a lot of money reduces the annoyance of a high priced repair, it does nothing for the annoyance of a repetitive repair. Usually when people talk about Mercedes repair troubles they are either jealous liars or are repeating what jealous liars said, but there is really truth to the notion that Mercedes-Benz build quality dropped around the start of the nineties. An old W124, for example, will typically be in better shape today then a W210 (it's replacement).

@thekkl true, my 190 D with 400.000 km and no probs at all tell the same story. BTW their quality didn't really drop, it is the electronic stuff that was introduced that had so many errors. Competitors had the same problems when they introduced it at the same time, and only when they introduced them years later, they didn't have that problems BUT they then always have to close a "invention-gap" (lets call it that way, sorry for my bad english)

Drove a G55 Amg V8 Kompr 2005. Milage was 170000... Regarding "refrigerator doors": the doors still sound a compact click when they`re closed just like when it left the factory...Not like the crap that`s (love the Queen) built with the weels attached to the chassi... Two railroad bars holding the axels are a perfect duo in a traffic accident: A guy hit a tank-truck (parked) in 90 km/h and actually broke a leg...Try to break a leg in any other car:) he bought a new g-class.
