  • lol the look on Angela Lansberry's face when she's giving the plot is awesome. She's just like "I'm gonna' be polite... but what the FUCK is this?!" hahahaha

  • whoa space punk is super suave

  • I can see that the costuming in this show is what sparked the styles for all of the 90's!

  • This looks god awful. The sound of it seemed like the musical didn't stand a chance that late in the 80's with such an early 80's sound when they were already going into the 90's.

  • No you don't. I saw the original. It was awful

  • I recently saw this play and it was AWESOME!

  • F**K YA

  • Am I crazy to want to see a revival of this, with Pink as the Diva?

  • @tonywrestles2 O.O That would be absolutely amazing!!

  • @tonywrestles2 - I thought the same thing as soon as I saw it!

  • @JessxSings Please don't say these things about my friends. Its really upsetting them.

  • We're doing this play at my high school, I don't exactly agree with some of the casting, and our director casted WAY too many banshees and starmites, she could cut both groups in half and have the sufficient amount. The girl who plays Eleanor has a great voice but she just doesn't fit the role in my opinion, and the girl who plays Diva is not Diva enough, her voice isn't strong enough :/

  • @JessxSings Excuse me? If you think you're in charge of the ultimate judgement on everyone in the world, why don't you just take a good look at yourself, because obviously you have some self-help to accomplish. I'm usually not one for confrontation, but your words are ridiculous and immature, not to mention dead wrong.

    :)

  • do you go to college park?

  • @JessxSings Did you get casted? If you did, I'm wondering how, because people who have big egos rarely are as good as they make themselves out to be.

Anyway, it's the director's choice how many ensemble members they have. Their vision might need more characters.

  • How did THIS get nominated??? o_O

  • @Jangobadass Do you know what the other two nominees (yes, two, not three) were that year? "Jerome Robbin's Broadway" and "Black and Blue" (another revue). Apparently it wasn't a strong year for book musicals.

  • I forgot how amazing Sharon McNight is in this...

  • I play the part of space punk

  • @fbihhh who cares

  • O____O

  • Sharon McKnight is the Diva

  • I was trink... when i was like.. 11. i'm in m 20's now. SO FUN. lansbury's description of the show slayed me.

  • See Sharon - truly one of the greats, a living legend - live in Berkeley, CA on June 13, 2010. Check this website for more info: berkeleyplayhouse-dot-org

  • sssooooo terribly 80's...... lol

  • I saw it way back in 1989 and I loved it. They even gave out buttons with the name of the show on it. I still have it too.

  • ahaha ; i LOVE the starmites ! They sound awesome ! ahaha :)

  • oh it the '80s-ness is wonderful ...

  • I was Eleanor at my high school Starmites and I was bad ass! I didn't use my head voice like the other YouTube videos I've been watching of Starmites! So bad!

  • OUr school is doing starmites highschool right n ow, and ours is so much better than this. Our singing is better and ours is better choreographed too. I'm so proud of our show!

  • I'm maligna in this show

  • that's bad ass.

  • This woman is NOT a good Diva.

  • she originated the role. i worked on the previews in nh the summer before it went to broadway. its too bad you cant see her snarls and facial expressions. she was a howl and spoke like a sailor most of the time. she was good but this performance doesnt really show her at her best. somewhere there is a video of the entire show shot in the summer of 1988 at the american stage festival, milford, new hampshire. if anyone knows of it, please post, it had great quality and sound!

  • That woman is singing "live" to tracks. All the others are lipsyncing, except the other two leads.

  • Haha. Such a fail.

I played Cannibelle in my high school production last year...

  • I got to see it several times on Broadway

  • I'm in this show right now!

    I'm maglinna!

    i missed auditions

  • Im her too!

  • This show would last so much longer now because of the 80's kitch!! I love this show!!

  • shocked it only lasted a few months...

  • Probably would have lasted longer off-Broadway, rather than on. At this time, silly kitch usually didn't run long in the big theatres. Most of this kind of thing in the 80s ran downtown.

  • The show is terrible to watch, but it is tons of fun to be in. I think this establishes the show. lol

  • Much to my dismay, I actually saw this on Broadway. It was pretty much this for over 2 hours.

  • I remember performing this play in '93 and I LOVED it!! Dazzle was my character and I had a huge crush on the lead who played Space Punk. I don't know why but the music resonated with me even after the play was over. It's still a big part of my life

  • It's sad a that a legend like angela lansbury introduced this horrid performance

  • wow, does this ever suck

  • Best show I've ever been in. Loved it, got to be Sup Sup in my school's performance :D

  • lmao hahaha im ack ack acramen im in this at my skool lmao

  • i can tell why i've never heard of this show...

  • i'm gonna be in this play at my school.

  • wish they could to this again, maybe update the styles to fit a more... modern future look? Im sure those costumes worked in the 20years ago but that was a long time ago

  • yea we have our costumes like a little more this time but eh i like the 80's look shmexy lmao hahahaha

  • LOL anything made in the 80s had EXTREMELY 80s costumes/hair/makeup. It cracks me up whenever I watch Dirty Dancing, 'cause they do NOT look 1955!!

  • ahhhh how can you not be glad this exists? :)

  • The girl who played Diva when I did this my senior year of high school was actually better than this woman, lol. But still, it's an awesome musical!

  • Thanks for posting this! I've loved Starmites since I was in a production six years ago and I've always wondered what the Broadway production looked like.

  • This looks like a bad 80s children tv show...oh gawd.

  • Ouch

  • Everyone says how bad this was, need I remind people of 'Carrie: The Musical'? Yes the Stephen King story was a musical around this time, ran for like a week.

  • which was a great show

  • who is that plays the diva

  • Sharon McNight

  • worked on the previews at the american stage festival in milford n.h. during the summer of 1988. sharon and liz always gave 110% everyone was proud when they took the show to ny. anyone out there work at the asf that summer? please post. a flashpot went of in sharons face when she was exiting stage, we were so stunned, her phantom mic was left on and you could hear her swearing over the house sound system!, lol, live summer theater!

  • i worked on this show at previews at the american stage festival in milford n.h. during the summer of 1988. all the feathers used in the costumes and props were test feathers from eddie murphy's "coming to america" sharon and liz were great and always gave 110%, we were all so proud when the show went to n.y. if anyone worked at the a.s.f. that summer, please post. one night a flashpot went off while sharon was exiting and she got powder in her eyes, she started swearing and her mic was still on

  • To those that argue it's a great show...why do you say that?

  • The cast are trying so hard, cause they know they look like a bunch of fucking idiots. At least they're all fantastic singers.

  • This is my schools next musical. I'm auditioning for Space Punk

  • eh. I got Ack Ack but thats fine. fun part. any tips?

  • SUPER FUN CHARACTER! I got ACK ACK as well,I was hoping to get Space Punk.

  • im going this show at my camp this summer. i really really want to be cast as eleanor!

  • Still one of the best shows I ever did, I was Dazzle Razzledorf my Freshman Year, it was my first High School show. Sure, its a little cheesy, but music is really good and its funny. Great for high schools.

  • The lisard on the floor is Garbriel Barre and has had quite a distinguished career as a director.

  • lol the way you put that cracked me up

  • I wonder why there haven't been any more vids of this. I mean it was a tony nomination for Pete sake!

  • Well it didn't last a year on Broadway. Don't get me wrong it's a great show. I guess the public didnt think so

  • Come on!!! this show does NOT suck!! im eleanor in our school's show, and our opening nite is tomorrow. It's a really fun musical and it IS cool to watch. Don't you ever get bored of those old musicals?? this is DIFFERENT and FUN!!! ROCK ON STARMITES!!! :)

  • LOVE IT!

were doing this musical at my school this year.

    it rocks

  • I like our production better?

  • well you can tell this was made in the late 80's/early 90's haha.

    This is terrible haha.

  • the sad part is the technical revival of the musical on b-way in 2000 was in a high school auditiorium

  • I'm horrified that you aren't joking - Starmites deserves so much better than it's gotten - it's a great musical. Why does nobody remember this show!?

  • i was in this show. we did it pretty well. but its hard to take seriously because it is soooo cheesy. no wonder it only lasted a few months on broadway

  • This show sucks. i'm sorry.... but it does

  • No...Wrong..ONE OF THE BEST SHOWS EVER

  • i totally agree, this show is PAINFUL to watch, but SUUUPER fun to be in. i'm playing balbraka the banshee and it's a blast

  • Lol I'm playing Balbraka in my college's production too! Rock on, Bansheeeees.

  • 4:52, Sharon's pose is so awesome.

  • eew, nasty review...

I remember seeing this in a nearby theatre..OMG SPACE PUNK WAS SO CUTE

  • What a hot mess! I love it!!!!!!

  • This was such a fun show!! I saw it on B'way, and have performed in it since. Wow, this clip takes me back. Fun, fun, fun.

  • this was such a horrible musical to watch, but definitely the best musical to be a part of.

  • so this cast is amazing.

    seriously.

  • i think it's funny that all of you who are all "it's less than a month" are wrong. you need to do math more often. the months are APRIL MAY JUNE. so april 27- may 27= 1 month. may 27- june 18= close to. so about 2 months, but less.

  • BLABLABLABLABLA.

    D<

  • "I hate to be immodest, I hate to be a bore,

But when you greet a goddess, get your face on the floor!"

    Just about the perfect lyrics......

  • I'm looking for more video of Sharon - anyone know where I can get it?

  • Sharon McNight should go back to Broadway!

  • I bow to you for posting this!

  • wow i thought it lasted alittle onlger than a year but no less than a month HAHAHA

  • ok the fact that it lasted less than a month is really really sad

  • holy crap, starmites and angela lansbury... I think I've died and gone to heaven

  • OMG I did starmites and I was Diva! Im a guy and I have a very high belt so the though it would be funny to have a drag be DIva

  • What the hell?! I've never heard of this show!

  • Wow, Gwen Stewart pre-Rent.

  • Love love love it! Thank you for putting this up! <3

  • Thank you SO much for putting this up!

  • Gotta love the greatness that is Sharon McNight!!!

  • Oh man this is awesome....gah I love this play!

  • me, too

  • OMG Thank you sooooo much!!!!!

  • I haven't see this clip since it aired live in '89! Love it, love it, LOVE IT!! Thanks for posting this!

  • THANK YOU!

  • Lets see, currently rolling in their graves are Rodgers, Hammerstein, Kern, Gershwin. Anyone else anyone?

  • No, I think that sums it up.

  • Even the old masters had some clunkers. How is this any worse than "Clambake" (Rodgers & Hammerstein) or "By Strauss" (Gershwin) or "What a Movie" (Leonard Bernstein--you forgot him) or "Rosalie" (forgot Cole Porter, too)?

  • Are you kidding me? There's is no comparison! Did Starmites produce a "In the still of the night"? "By Strauss" is a great song. "Clambake" is hilarious. And if "Starmites" is the worst of Keatings canon, where is his "Oklahoma" or "Kiss Me Kate" or "West Side Story". Face it Starmites sucked and it was the best thing that Keating did. But I'm sure he was a real nice fella to have over for dinner.

  • anyone else? perhaps some other pretentious musical theatre snobs who are also now dead.
