lol the look on Angela Lansberry's face when she's giving the plot is awesome. She's just like "I'm gonna' be polite... but what the FUCK is this?!" hahahaha
This looks god awful. The sound of it seemed like the musical didn't stand a chance that late in the 80's with such an early 80's sound when they were already going into the 90's.
We're doing this play at my high school, I don't exactly agree with some of the casting, and our director casted WAY too many banshees and starmites, she could cut both groups in half and have the sufficient amount. The girl who plays Eleanor has a great voice but she just doesn't fit the role in my opinion, and the girl who plays Diva is not Diva enough, her voice isn't strong enough :/
@JessxSings Excuse me? If you think you're in charge of the ultimate judgement on everyone in the world, why don't you just take a good look at yourself, because obviously you have some self-help to accomplish. I'm usually not one for confrontation, but your words are ridiculous and immature, not to mention dead wrong.
@Jangobadass Do you know what the other two nominees (yes, two, not three) were that year? "Jerome Robbin's Broadway" and "Black and Blue" (another revue). Apparently it wasn't a strong year for book musicals.
See Sharon - truly one of the greats, a living legend - live in Berkeley, CA on June 13, 2010. Check this website for more info: berkeleyplayhouse-dot-org
I was Eleanor at my high school Starmites and I was bad ass! I didn't use my head voice like the other YouTube videos I've been watching of Starmites! So bad!
OUr school is doing starmites highschool right n ow, and ours is so much better than this. Our singing is better and ours is better choreographed too. I'm so proud of our show!
she originated the role. i worked on the previews in nh the summer before it went to broadway. its too bad you cant see her snarls and facial expressions. she was a howl and spoke like a sailor most of the time. she was good but this performance doesnt really show her at her best. somewhere there is a video of the entire show shot in the summer of 1988 at the american stage festival, milford, new hampshire. if anyone knows of it, please post, it had great quality and sound!
Probably would have lasted longer off-Broadway, rather than on. At this time, silly kitch usually didn't run long in the big theatres. Most of this kind of thing in the 80s ran downtown.
I remember performing this play in '93 and I LOVED it!! Dazzle was my character and I had a huge crush on the lead who played Space Punk. I don't know why but the music resonated with me even after the play was over. It's still a big part of my life
wish they could to this again, maybe update the styles to fit a more... modern future look? Im sure those costumes worked in the 20years ago but that was a long time ago
Thanks for posting this! I've loved Starmites since I was in a production six years ago and I've always wondered what the Broadway production looked like.
Everyone says how bad this was, need I remind people of 'Carrie: The Musical'? Yes the Stephen King story was a musical around this time, ran for like a week.
worked on the previews at the american stage festival in milford n.h. during the summer of 1988. sharon and liz always gave 110% everyone was proud when they took the show to ny. anyone out there work at the asf that summer? please post. a flashpot went of in sharons face when she was exiting stage, we were so stunned, her phantom mic was left on and you could hear her swearing over the house sound system!, lol, live summer theater!

Still one of the best shows I ever did, I was Dazzle Razzledorf my Freshman Year, it was my first High School show. Sure, its a little cheesy, but music is really good and its funny. Great for high schools.
Come on!!! this show does NOT suck!! im eleanor in our school's show, and our opening nite is tomorrow. It's a really fun musical and it IS cool to watch. Don't you ever get bored of those old musicals?? this is DIFFERENT and FUN!!! ROCK ON STARMITES!!! :)
I'm horrified that you aren't joking - Starmites deserves so much better than it's gotten - it's a great musical. Why does nobody remember this show!?
i was in this show. we did it pretty well. but its hard to take seriously because it is soooo cheesy. no wonder it only lasted a few months on broadway
i think it's funny that all of you who are all "it's less than a month" are wrong. you need to do math more often. the months are APRIL MAY JUNE. so april 27- may 27= 1 month. may 27- june 18= close to. so about 2 months, but less.

@JessxSings Did you get casted? If you did, I'm wondering how, because people who have big egos rarely are as good as they make themselves out to be.
Anyway, it's the director's choice how many ensemble members they have. Their vision might need more characters.

Are you kidding me? There's is no comparison! Did Starmites produce a "In the still of the night"? "By Strauss" is a great song. "Clambake" is hilarious.
