One day here in Uruguay, i went to the discostore to buy some soul disc ( i'm a fan of rock and roll, blues, jazz) But that day i want soul and i saw a Motown collection!! Three discs with the best of Motown!!
I'm 16 and i just gotta say motown is by far my favorite type music, though i my self probably couldn't pull it off, i sure as hell love listening to it. There is nothing like it today. i mean seriously, not to say there isn't touching music today but.... AINT NOTHING LIKE THE REAL THING.
I'm 44 grew up listening to motown, rock, disco, man music sure has really changed for the worse! Same as the cars were built to last back then and unlike todays crap! They each had their own look, and name..2days cars all look the same..
Props to the Legendary Ashford and Simpson for composing/producing this classic and the majority of Marvin and Tammy's duets!!! Two of the greatest singers and composers behind them!!!
Hi Cindy, yes I was a teenager in the 70's and I still have all the great Motown LP's, I've just recently bought a CD of Marvin Gaye's Greatest Hits, it doesn't have Ain't No Mountain on it, but many other great songs including some with Tammi.......but this song I think is their best.
Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing Baby is another sung with Tammi have you heard it?
Yea to bad that things worked then and now---? Forget it. I'm 60y/o, feel 40y/o, - no houseayment , no car payments--- things happen then---:-)we had real love, going to to Costa Rica too see about moving there~~~~ moving where there's Peace, love, no army----can't leave that sister down the rd. in that doublewide-He's the bomb~!!
Mr. Ruffin is no joke...absolutely nothing to f*** with.
The Salvation of music from that time frame thru out the seventies was so vast,
look at Otis Redding, Teddy Pendergrass rest his soul....it was just so real and raw and you just relate to different artists on different levels. Vocally, Marvin is my muse though. i just feel him, i know you can dig where im comin from.
Lol...u got jokes huh! cool, i'll check out Boys 2 Men, they recently hosted DL Hughleys Morning radio show here in NY on the eve of Thanksgiving and they still sound tough.
im 20 yrs old and u can give me motown anyday compared to our music today...yh we get it poppin now..but sumtimes i wish i can go back in time just for a day so i can jam off songz like diz in the club
every time i hear this am ten yrs old again and am playing my daddys long playing motown records and twirling around in my block colour mini dress and knee high socks!!lol!! motown rocks!!
Maaaan. Tammi and Marvin bring Goosebumps to my body when I hear them.
You know what. Might soundy corny. But can be true. If i were battling a terrible illness in a hospital bed, I would really want to hear the Tunes of Marvin Gaye And Tammi Terrell. And i Would go into a deep imagination of healing myself especially while hearing these powerful loving voices. ((Seriously))
There's nothing corny about what you said, legaspi89, except why use your imagination to contemplate battling a terrible illness? To be healthy, focus upon health, not sickness. And keep on listening to Marvin and Tammi if it makes you feel good! :-)
When the vocals, lyrics, and music work together (one doesn't dominate the others), it creates a truly great song like this. People continue to listen to it some 40 years after it was recorded, and it's fresh every time.
Bloody well right! They just don't produce music like this anymore. These days singers all have synthetic vocals, the instruments are synthetic, and it's all just a synthetic mess. By contrast, Marvin, Tammy, the producers and the session musicians put their REAL SELVES into this record.
When I was in the military, I found this song on a jukebox in a bar in Saigon. That was in 1974. I wonder how many brothas dropped coin on this over the years there. Talk to me!
I was never in the military but this was a big hit when I was growing up. I feel if Tammy wasn't pressured into performing when she was sick, who knows? she could have lived a little longer.
What a beautiful song!! The stuff they call music nowadays don't even come close to these old grooves. I can listen to all these great classics all day long!! It's to bad that I have to go to work to earn a living.
With James Jamerson on bass...sublime

"Ain't Nothing Like The Real Thing" and this is "real" music!
It doesn't get any better than this.
I feel that people who try to re-create this (and many others)really doesn't have any respect for the original artist in the first place.
