Food for thought: Maybe we should require genetic testing prior to breeding humans? No one requires it of humans and we have to deal with unfortunate consequences afterwards as tax paying individuals. This is not intended to offend anyone, this is just an example of how too many requirements (aka breeding animals) become unrealistic. After all, we're also just animals and there's a whole lot of untested breeding going on.

I love peta but hate the fact that PETA is making the AKC look very bad. they don't even meet like that. the AKC even allow mix breeds. there is just breed standards for different kinds of dogs. if there wasn't we would never have a Golden retriever, Doberman, or any kind of dog. I bet there wouldn't even be dogs existing. the reason why we humans domiscated dogs was to help us, but if not, there would be no dog.

hahaha, amazing, and powerful video, really gets the message across. My family has owned 4 dogs, keep in mind we have only had dogs for about 6 years, and they have all been mutts. Before, i always wanted a pure breed husky, now all i will accept is a mutt, they are just beautiful, and amazing dogs, like all dogs, but the fun part is you never know what you are going to get, we have brothers that look like completely different dogs, but they are part of the same litter.

Sorry but, you're wrong. The traits chosen during the original domestication of dogs were ones that created the strongest, fastest, smartest, overall healthiest dogs. Quite unlike the traits chosen today by The Kennel Club & other breeding groups, traits such as flatter faces, leading to breathing trouble; smaller heads, leading to brain damage; shorter legs, leading to joint problems & other truly asinine factors leading to "pedigree".

If it wasn't for selective breeding, dogs wouldn't even exist. Dogs were genetically engineered thousands of years ago from wolves. The more passive wolves were bred together, and then the most passive of the offspring were bred together, eventually creating dogs.

We have enough dogs with no homes. Breeders breed dogs for money. They make money off of the dogs pain. Do you really think they breed 1 dog once and then that's it? NO! As for that "knowing what you're getting" nonsense, a lot of the dogs bred inherit debilitating physical diseases due to their owners ridiculous search for the "master pedigree". Enforced breeding isn't natural and it causes a lot of problems for the dogs later on.

@Frizzgal101 Breeding dogs responsibly means the killing of mutts in shelters. Dogs do not vary much in personality as a result of breed, but instead because of environment raised in. It is very easy to tell the difference between a nice and a mean dog, a shy and a boastful dog, a curious and a dumb dog, based on first meeting. That's the way you can know what you are getting.

They make a powerful point. All animals should be purchased and treated equally, regardless of breed. But breeders mate dogs and dont consider the 4 million animals killed in shelters every year.

The pure bred dogs being sold in the pet stores only support an ugly industry. Almost all of the puppies at your local mall were brought from puppy mills. We should be adopting our pets and accepting all breeds, as we should people. Yes its controversial, but it got your attention.
