  • In memory of Penny Weis and all of our Heart concerts.....you are missed sweet girl....my friend...my sister...

  • If you don't fight back, terror and violence will always rule...

  • For you overseas people. have a look on here at the original version by John Farnham. Look up 2003 aria awards. Trust me youll freak

  • John Farnham wrote a good song, and this group does the best version of it.

Anne Wilson leaves her stamp again. Sister Nancy, actually a versatile musician, plays mandolin on this number.

  • @bookkeeper57

you can not be serious ....... find a live version from john farhnam in the 80's and here the song as it should be sung

  • NO bag pipes so it's always going to be just short of Farnham

  • @Lakembakid I totally agree with you!!

  • I didn`t know they "bashed" Sarah Palin. I respect them more now. So glad we still have a few voices of reason

  • @pseudofame from new zealand really love heart but john farnham reigns supreme ,what is there political world veiw im curious

  • @pseudofame I have been a Heartmonger for over 30 years, seen them in concert 23 times, and am addicted to their music. This song is explosive and I did listen to the John Farnham version. Uh-uh...Heart reigns SUPREME! About Sarah Pallin, Ann and Nancy are extreme left-wingers, so that's where the bashing comes from.

  • Although I don't agree with Heart's politics (nor their bashing of Sarah Palin), I still must commend their talent as real musicians. Not many (or any) of today's female singers are as good as them.

  • i love the original by John Farnham but Heart rocks every song they sing so LOVE this too!!!! This song has been sung by about a dozen others as well. No sense in arguing about it. It's a great song!

  • Rock on, ladies.

  • To all who have argued about who does this song better - as Ann Wilson recently said on another divisive issue "Who the &^%* cares you know, why does it matter? We're talking about people here."

This is a beautiful song no matter who sings it - in fact we should all sing it. Embrace the message of hope and peace!

  • @Snoqueen69 I AbSOULutely Agree!! Many singers

should sing this and Hearts version is with passion so..

You are the Voice..let it be "The Voice of Reason". This

is a song with a message and That message is LOVE.

  • HEART IS THE BEST!!! I LOVE THIS SONG!!!

  • We are closer to the day...Thank you for the memories...Peace

  • We are closer to the day... Thank you for the memories...Peace

  • Loved this - also love Farnham's version and David Archuleta's, too. It's a great song!

  • I love Heart and this song!

  • ***PEACE***^DO YOU GREE!?)($%^

  • great cover, I love it !

  • Heart's version is better....no question. I don't care who did it first or whom wrote it.

  • @Heartboy1031 OK, I tried to delete this. The song is beautiful and who ever wrote it did a good job but I just like Heart's version better! :-)

  • Boths versions are so cool I like both, Farnham is the original, but each singer with their different version.

awesome cover! still like john farnham the best but heart is really good. I had no idea that they had covered this.

  • THANKS

  • We have the chance to turn the pages over

    ;-)

No sense on what you wrote, hehe

  • I like Heart better than John Farnham. Just my opinion. :)

  • @licoricefun I gree with you! i love him*****

  • Best version of this song.

  • Whoever wrote the song, Ann Wilson honors him/her with this delivery. Great rock vocalist, up there with Grace Slick and Stevie Nicks.

  • john farnham is the original singer,

his is the best! no substitute! sorry!

  • Everyone has their opinion...Farnham has more range..I like both....To Mr Bookkeeper if you dont know whether the origin of this song is from a female or male how the hell can you say thi sversion is better you twat....and to those who wanna talk political bullshit take it elsewhere, this is a music appreciation area !!

  • didnt the lead singer from alan parsons project co-write this song?

  • @saxgoalie It was written by Chris Thompson, Andy Qunta, with Maggie Ryder and Keith Reid. Chris sang with Alan Parsons Project...

  • Leave it to Farnesy girls....

  • Hooray for Heart in their beautiful message to the world. Three Cheers for Peace!!!

  • @chuckkottke,,,Jeez,,,its not my week. Just got a call from some of your comrades,,,the Tooth Fairy,,,the Easter Bunny,,,and Santa Claus. Seems they think I'm full of it too. But they assured me that they're still on your side. Opps,,,gotta go,,,John Lennon's on line 2.

  • What do you know,,,,,John's pissed that nobody's giving peace a chance. Whod'a guessed?

  • Go back to your bunker, Elroy. What's ya doing here anyhow - trying to sour people's hopes for people power to overcome hate and death and war? Get back - back to where you once come from. The bunker's waiting for you.

  • @chuckkottke,,,I was here becuase I enjoy MOST of this band's music. But I'm really annoyed by their politics, which really never rose above the level of a 12 year old. Fame gives them a platform, and they sway the weak-minded. I would never try to sour legtimate hope.

Buy all I hear in this is surrender and a willingness to give in to the world's worst. Sorry freind,,,,that does not lead to victory. Your pacifisim won't save your head,,,,ask David Pearl.

  • Music is from the heart - it humanizes us; sometimes the perspective we get from the TV news lacks the "human" element, so I think that's an important role to play. Empathy is all too often lacking in our world, and the individual forgotten when politics as usual is the order of the day. Is it weak to feel for another, and see them as we see ourselves? That's the message. Containment and supporting positive movements - it's slow, but it works. Force is a last resort, and wisely so.

  • @chuckkottke,,,,Well, that should let everyone know what the world looks like thru rose-colored glasses. Enough is enough, no more time to play wooden swords with you,,,, there are REAL wars to fight. Fini.

  • Better rose-colored than fogged up! Jobs, not guns, that's the answer. A lot of what we see in the world is a result of frustrations and economics. Take away the recruits (by supplying careers & jobs to people desperate for any work & dignity they can get), and you will see 98% of the problems disappear. No perfect world - just lessening the problems.

  • @chuckkottke,,,Daniel Pearl. Not "David"

  • @chuckkottke the song is from John Farnham

  • Thanks! I always knew the Heart version - John Farnham's music with the Little River Band I'm familiar with - great to know he has such creative talent!

  • I prefer the original. John Farnham is the man!!!

  • I prefer this Heart version over Farnham's. His is still really good. I listened to it. For me, I think it just flows a little better. But that is just me. I am not downing anyone who prefers him over Heart.

  • I love Heart. I love John Farnham. *brain asplodes*

  • heart were the origional singers but farnhams mastered the song with the right beat and chords!

  • If you hadn't heard Farnhams version you would think this song is great, which it is.

    But Farnham did it better

  • Way to kill a classic song.

Farnham is the master of this song... Try and understand it!

  • too right!

  • Bullies rejoice!!

I'm not gonna look at anyone down the barrel of a gun,,,,,,until I see theirs,,,,,then they'll see mine. Down thru the ages it was always the same,,,,,tho war is horrible, pacifists always lose EVERYTHING and become slaves. Hold on tight,,,,,its about to happen again. If you think hope has come you are mistaken. You are blind and hopeless and all that u have will be taken from you,,,,,,without a shot. Yep,,,,,this time,,,,,without a shot. So sad.

  • I second you, fellow. Unfortunatelly, real world is ambiguous --- and pacifists are the first traitors. Sad but True. That's why it's so difficult Arguing With Idiots (Glenn Beck) who believes that Liberal Crap in the Pop Culture: "Shout for Peace, and the Wars will get over" --- I love Music, but I hate musicians. I love art, but I hate artists. I love Rock, but I hate Rockers. They're the Moral Scum of our society.

  • A war begun without first trying containment, without clear objectives and capture of Bin Laden, without concern & paying jobs for those affected, and a prolonged occupation where we are not welcome; a failed war. You mphandel are the bully. Democracies are by their very nature slow to anger, but bullies pushed us hard into war, ran roughshod over all voices of opposition, and refused to admit their mistakes in the face of the plain truth. Bluff and bluster - take your BS somewhere else!

  • Yosemite Sam, eh? War is a horrible choice, a last option, and senseless wars should be ended as soon as possible. Ever hear of containment? How about going after hurtful extremists, and not attacking whole regions of the globe. Getting to the roots of conflict - fear, poverty, inequity, arrogance, misinformation, and irrational leadership! You're blinded by your own powder burns Yosemite; take some time, let those eyes heal, and see things with some heart.

  • This comment is directed at mphandel..

  • @chuckkottke If you know a man is coming with a gun to kill your children, what will you do? You dial 911 to so that an officer will come with his own gun to protect them. When a nation dials 911 its called war. Our enemies want us dead, you included. I will not sit on my hands or feel sorry for them. I will protect my children first. Where will you be when they come for your children chuckkottke?

  • Wait a minute here. You're confusing war with the actions of a police force - we can't make war on diffuse criminal groups, we investigate the crimes and make arrests. We get to the underlying causes and do our best to reduce what drives people to the extreme. Our "enemy" is comprised of individuals that follow criminally-minded characters because of frustrations, ignorance, intolerance, & a sense of disrespect they feel. A cure = reducing global poverty, inequity, and being on good terms.

  • @chuckkottke The analogy fits. I would say you are confusing criminals with "war" criminals, who have declared war on you and me both. They don't want your understanding. They want your head. Our "enemy" is comprised of those who have made a "choice" to be our enemy when other of their countrymen chose not to be. And you're "cure" is not something that has ever happened on this planet. People just don't accept it. So they write silly songs like this one. While the beat goes on.

  • Na. You are confusing criminal groups with nation-states, & war on amorphous groups which operate all over is not the answer; it's like trying to make war on the mafia, or war on a drug cartel.. It's a matter of police & international justice; yes, some military help to arrest suspects to be tried, as what should have been done with Bin Laden's troupe. The answer lies with winning the good will and mutual respect of the citizens living in these turbulent regions, and that's the real answer.

  • It's not "silly", it's a song about ending the cycle of violence, the senseless wars that go on to make those in power look better. An eye for an eye leaves the world blind man. People power put an end to the Vietnam conflict, and the same should happen with the messes we're into today - give help where it is needed, jobs and respect; the citizens will change their views if we change our attitudes and actions. Let them run their countries, and hold out the olive branch of sincerity and peace.

  • Yeah. So let's talk this to the enemy.

War is not a choice for a nation under attack --- is the only action possible for DEFENSE.

"Holy War" is the doublethink word for the Satanic War called Jihad.

Muslims, Satanic Islamists make war. We only don't wanna get killed.

  • Al qaeda isn't a nation any more than the median cartel is a nation. Extremists find safe haven in local areas via misinformation, & when locals get harmed by outside forces who do not respect the people & their culture, & who are not with them on a human level, on equal terms. Religious lunatics are everywhere - look at Baker's hard rhetoric and insensitivity towards victims of quakes and floods. To defuse it, reduce the anger, poverty, and frustration that drives people towards it. Peace.

  • @chuckkottke You speak in fantasies. Things that have never been and never will be. You can't defuse whats wrong in this world. The sad truth is that peace is not a characteristic of human nature. You can't tell me of "ANY" human relationships that are peaceful for extended periods of time. Not even in families. So what chance do nations have? Stop dreaming silly dreams. There is no eutopia. In the coming conflict, we will try to protect you, but I fear you will be a bloody unarmed sacrifice.

  • @mphandel I'd rather try than give up on it all - at worst, nothing comes of it, but at best, we build lasing peace. Most of the world is at peace, and most people want peace. When things are out of balance, then there is disharmony; bring back the balance, bring back the harmony. Apocalyptic visions are not the answer. The world is a reflection of us as human beings - the love you take is equal to the love you make. Most of all, to understand and respect what is good in others first. Peace

  • @chuckkottke If you think most of the world is at peace I will cannot continue this exchange with you. Its bad enough that you burden the rest of us with the task of protecting your freedoms when you are not willing to fight for them yourself. You're the type that does not seek after wisdom or truth, Only the empty excercise of debate itself. I won't waste time with things that never where and never will be. Music cannot change the world.

  • But it's true! Bunker mentality isn't where it's at buddy. The best protection for freedom is to first do no harm; support popular voices in countries where hard-line governments hold sway; give people a chance to make change - they will! Look @ Chile, or the Czechoslovakia - nonviolent change. I will fight for freedom, not for blunt & blind invasions. You' re the type that sees only the saddest paths forward - bad karma. Music already has changed the world - Beatles? Peter, Paul, & Mary?

  • this is a greatversion

  • I gotta say, out of all the covers, I rate Heart's cover very highly, even to the point of buying the 10" vinyl single. I like their take on the chorus' vocal hook. Their cover works because unlike all the "soft pop" covers done on the idol shows, they keep the vocal "guts" that Farnham had.

  • i do believe better than the original!

  • we're all someones daughter, we're all someone's son, damn right !!!! Heart's got the heart to sing it and say it for alot of us. . . .

  • Ann & Nancy you are the voice. They deserve to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.Heart forever

  • Wouldn't it have been great for Ann Wilson and John Farham to jam together for this song?????

  • NO ONE can sing this song like Ann Wilson. ROCK ON ANN WILSON AND HEART!!!

  • Are you joking ? John Farnham's original romps all over this: Search YouTube for "John Farnham - You're The Voice music video".

  • @Keruaran yes, i have heard it. and this version is WAY better!

  • @jonnyp2484 lol, you need to get your ears tested.

  • @Keruaran my ears are JUST FINE thank you.

  • @Keruaran if you dont like it- then move on and dont listen to it- its that simple!

  • lol get over it man, you have bad taste, that's fine... just stop double posting me with inane crap

  • @Keruaran you get over it! you're the one who started this argument by responding to my post. like i said before, if you don't like it, don't listen to it! it's that simple.

  • lol you need to chill out, take your meds or something...

  • yeah ok

  • its not keruaran's fault you have shity taste in music. heart has come up with some good songs. this is not one of them.

  • When first released, this video was banned from MTV!

  • Banned? :-O Why?

  • Hate to say it, but no one can sing this song like John Farnham, he's just got one of the best voices.

John Farnham, "you're the ONLY voice" for this song!

  • John Farnham's version was better

  • TOTALLY RIGHT

  • This is pretty good but the original Aussie version is better.

  • The sad thing is that after 20 + years after this song mankind hasn't improved. We still kill each other for stupid reasons! Will we ever evolve enough to stop killing ourselves and the planet.

  • I saw them live and I was just 5 rows from the stage! Yes, it was on the Human tour.

  • It had been quite a long time since I had heard this song for the last time. I played their "Greatest Hits" CD a couple of weeks ago and to listen to this song again was so refreshing and amazing as it had been the first time

  • shocking version

  • At her heyday in the 80s I thought Nancy Wilson was, perhaps, the hottest woman alive. Talent plus looks - good stuff.

  • This is an absolute brilliant cover copy. Ann WIlson does ave power to copy such a great song. Both versions are awesome.

  • I honestly don't know why other bands etc try to sing this song after John Farnham. They only do so at their own peril because in a comparison they will ALWAYS come out second best. Sure the musical arrangement etc can be improved, however when it comes to the vocals it is virtually impossible to beat the 'the voice' when he is belting out this classic (especially live in concert). It gives you goosebumps every time you hear it.

  • I agree! No one and I mean no one can sing this song like the Legendary John Farnham. This does not give me goosebumps like when Johnny boy sings it!!

  • Yep, if you're gonna sing this song you're going to be stacked up against John Farnham. And very few people can do that.

  • Tis song was written by Chris Thompson, former singer of Manfred Mann's Earthband

  • John Farnham was the big hit, but a cover of an original by cult hero Mitch Ryder, whose version I was looking for when I found this.

  • i agree, she isnt johny but she did well considering her lack of power 'compared to john farham anyway'

  • the video is awesome though.

  • did she copy john fraham, or did he copy her, I;m a bit confused.

  • John Farnham did the original.

  • thank you :)

  • As good as this cover is, nobody, and I mean nobody, can match the power of the voice of John Farnham in his own (original) version.

  • i love the greek version

  • May there be peace on earth and love between all of mankind. How I wish there would never be another war and that we would all learn to live together recognizing the priceless value of each human being.

  • This was during the Cold War ended.

  • la cancion original es genial pero con heart se escucha super bien.

  • I like heart a lot, but this song was done so much better by the original John Farnham, and even by the Alan Parsons Project.

  • I love Heart but Farnham owns this so hard.

  • For some ODD reason...humans enjoy killing each other...why? The same reason the lemmings run off a cliff every year.....because that's the way it is. sucks!

  • I love this song!

  • I like Heart but John Farnham was much better ...with his VOICE

  • i believe MTV banned this video . i remember right. i just saw the video for very first ime in my life.there's nothing wrong this video at all. they are telling the truth about it. we need to work together not fight with eacher. ann wilson is great singer.

  • I love this song and video. Peace out! :)

  • This song is different of Farnham's song cause of ballad's style.

  • i love this video

  • best song!

  • this women are unbelievable. i love them with my life <3 everything they touch turns to gold. <3

  • these***

  • todo el mundo hace covers???!!!

  • I love both versions, however heart can bing the high notes easier/better. Farnham brings in much more power

  • very good version but i agree john farnham's version is better but this comes close.....

  • Indeed, This is pretty close. but still John Farnham is better :) but ofcourse, it's his own song :D

  • a aw aws awso awsom awsome awsom awso aws aw a
  • yeah farnham's version is better, but heart are awesome.. dont think there will be many better covers than this :)

  • Check out KT Tunstall's cover, it's pretty awesome.

  • john farnham is better. this is too thin for this powerfull song.

  • John Farnham is voice fitts SOOO MUCH better for this song.

  • John Farnham > Heart.

    That is all.

  • luv heart but never knew anyone else sang thing song but John Farnham!

  • I LOVE THIS !!!!!

  • I just love thew Wilson's sisters voices ...

  • I LOVE how the mandolin echoes the chorus/whoa's @ 2:29. That is so pretty.

  • Love this song!!!

  • good cover

but john farnham will always come out on top.

  • John Farnham version is better IMHO, but this video is 10,000 times better than his.

Songs like this, or Cat Steven's Peace Train or Rush's Closer To The Heart etc. should be required singing by all schoolkids the world over.

  • Comment removed

  • This is the 1st time i have ever heard this version of the farnham classic. it's quite a decent cover.

  • john farnham is better!!!!

  • I love this song! Some of the best 'whoa's in a song ever :D

  • There isnt a female singer on this planet that compares to Ann Wilson. Just listen to the depth of her voice on this song.

  • completely agree.

  • what's better? This or J Farnham? Farnham I think

  • much better the message

  • love this in Hot Rod

  • i love this song!!!!

  • great song!!!

  • Love Heart !! Iconic band indeed!!

  • great song great performens, thanks heart and john farnham, jbd

  • i like the part where she sings "OohOohOohOoh..." its sad that she and john didnt sing a douett....that could have been awesome

  • This song shoulda been a damn hit.Why wouldn't MTV play this video?I guess they were too busy playin' bullshit.

  • You got that right

  • jhon farham rules

  • keep rockin the free world baby!!!!!

  • OMG..people it's about the lyrics...don't u get it...please

  • Thank you sweetheart for uploading...knew u were one of the good guys

  • Aaaah. But to be in that audience... And I was - it was a great experience. I think it a great live concert. Heart music stands the test of time.

  • This song should stay with John Farnham.... You just cannot copy it...

    Its a great aussie song...
