do u mean the time lapse seems different each time u play? also it seems that when i play the same lengthy song on two different instruments i get two different feels when it comes to time. drums seem to be like a race car compared to strings... if u would be interested there are other bands that seem to have "time distortions"- Opeth, Dream Theater, Porcupine tree, Mars Volta, ((Devin Townsend)) and pretty much anyone tied in with Frank Zappa
