Excellent points. Sometimes the best games are the ones that have grown over time and have the people designing them listening to the people who play them - not just their little group or the beta testers. The last and next products I purchase have been/will be Paizo Pathfinder. WotC has sort of gone off the rails a bit. I've always heard they've been heavy-handed on the management side(that's never good, never). Losing so much of their talent is quite telling. Bad management does that though
@23penguins32 WotC may pass D&D 5e I hear and sell the line. Interesting no? Attached my shout outs vid on to 50+ WotC, Paizo, Mongoose, Green Ronin, AEG,Wizkids, etc employees today on facebook. I encouraged them to join us on youtube.Couple designers on here such PHB PSA 's director/ Paizo Author Clinton Boomer, or Iuztheevil the lead designer for PF Jason Bulmahn. I'm not sure if they'll discuss crunch and fluff with us but curiosity suggests some will at least watch.
@blackbarnz I'm not sure why Paizo would buy D&D. Name ? But they don't need it. It's sad about WotC. Really. I don't want to see these fails. Oil companies, mobile phone companies...yes. Just heard such bad, evil things about WotC's upper management. Just wrong. Would be nice to see some interaction with the people producing the games. I'm not sure they'd recognize well the game I play due to house rules, but that's not the point :) Would be excellent if they give it a go. Good on ya
@23penguins32 No Paizo wouldn't buy the D&D brand name just simply that WotC may sell it. There's been signs of this. WotC stopped selling miniatures. StarWars miniatures licensed to fantasyflight games and Hasbro IIRC add battle rules to action figs. When WotC changed 3e to 3.5e and 4.0e D&D changes in miniatures games were the 1st sign. D&D 4e no public product release dates past 9/20/11. D&D is all about "Encounters" now. Wow I skipped a whole edition of D&D,a sign!
@blackbarnz I know some like D&D 4E. Good for them. In all honestly, I wouldn't play any game or system that did that, based on what that system has been in the past. It's rape of a name, rape of a brand. It's a turd. The public supports that critique.
I couldn't agree with you more. This medium is an excellent way for game designers to get feedback promptly and in an animated and honest fashion. I just hope more designers don't just watch, but also comment!
Absolutely true. The only area I have not gone into is capitalizing on this fact with my channel to where it becomes filled with ads. If your channel is popular, many consumers watch it. Therefore many companies may want to pay you for doing your videos. It is your choice as to whether or not you wish to do that with your channel, your videos, your time and talent. There is nothing wrong with making some extra money from it, that choice is up to the individual.
@TowerGuardDM If any of us get offered money for doing this, I'd say sure take the cash. Good Point, I do know some youtubers actually do get sent stuff to review by companies for free.
@blackbarnz I don't know how it works exactly, but after so many subscribers you can apply for YouTube to place ads on your channel and you get a small stipend. Perhaps game companies would do the same to showcase their products, but I don't know about any of that too much either.
I don't do reviews, normally, but the reviews and comments on here have helped me immensely. Definately an amazing tool. You get the information from 100s of playtesters for free. Nice vid man.
@masterofflowers I guess I should have included RPG vids in general on effect sales as well. Yeah no doubt Free playtesting! I like that need to address that. It's yours so I'll give you first dibs.
Thanks HA! I pondered this for a day. I forgot I said that.
@blackbarnz Na man do any vids you think of. Its not a dibs kind of thing with me. We can all do viceos and link them together if we have difering ideas. Thats whats great with YT. Discussions about differences.
I agree with your statement that we can have a real impact on the hobby. YouTube, IMHO, is a venue that most game companies don't understand the potential of. Best example, look at the Games Workshop channel and then go to Miniwargaming's channel. Miniwargaming is promoting GW products BETTER than GW!?! Two guys with a video camera out promoting a company that grosses more than 400 million dollars annually?
The youtube reviews can give you some good info on books to check out. I found Delta Green & Savage Worlds that way. I think the bigger we get the community the more reality your statement will hold. I could see massive growth in our community over the next few years. This gives us a voice we wouldn't otherwise have. We can explain what we want out of rpgs & share what works for us, I get loads of positive feedback on some of my tips & I hope our community can improve rpgs overall, great vid
@woodwwad on my facebook page you'll see familar names in the industry. I often tag vids of the community even yours on industry insiders walls, status, fanpages, and letters. I personally know that some of our vids have actually been viewed by designers and authors who's work we discuss. That's pretty direct. Though many of the authors/game designers are on Youtube. For example Pathfinder lead designer Jason Bulmahn's channel is Iuztheevil's on YouTube. I subscribed you can find him there.
I often try to put links for the products in the description so that they can go buy them. It is pretty awe inspiring that something I say in front of my webcam in my house can help out some gaming companies. Consumers with a voice is a very good way to put it.
@Samwise7RPG There's no doubt in my mind you've sparked people's interest in a RPG before. I sure some of that interest resulted in a sale either at the hobby shop or on ebay.

@clackclickbang I do send community vids to game desiigner's/authors I have contact with but to date have gotten little feedback from them.

@blackbarnz The designers seem to prefer written reviews. They're less lazy than our video rambles.

Interesting. Tough no matter how much I'd promote they wouldn't bring werewolf: the apocalypse back :(

@hammeredshitsteak actually, I think they are going to be doing a werewolf 20 anniversary book & releasing the unfinished werewolf books.
woodwwad 6 months ago
@woodwwad Cool! Actually I'd just be interested in the supplement books of the apocalypse line since I have the core book :P
