You will almost never see an intravenous drug user doing anything else than injecting it, especially smoking it. maybe he just didn't have a needle or had lots of dope which is unlikely. junkies usually just go from hit to hit, never having extra.

heroin 3 is more suitable to be smoked through indirect flame, off of foil or in lamp, heroin 4 is most suited towards direct flame ie joint
