This choreogrphay contributes to the perception of greater funkiness. It is so unreserved and unabashedly male. One thing separating the Tempts from many other groups was their stark masculinity, and it comes through here with moves that no female group would think of. Those high kicks and struts exude a confidence level that makes the funk funkier. And to think they were in their 12th year of superstardom at this point, and no holidng back.
Dennis Edwards one of the all time great vocalist ,Eddie Levert,Marvin Gaye,Levi Stubbs,Ronnie Isley,Dennis Edwards. underrated if you happen to listen to 60's and 70's radio you gon hear Dennis Edwards more than one time. His rendition of A SongFor You makes you cry.
This has got to be the best funk song ever. Best soul band ever. Temptations could ROCK! If you are not smiling by the first minute of this song, something is wrong with you.
It's funny, you see a bunch of dude standing there....you think (today)..."oh, here's a bunch of pretty boy posers". But not these cats....no sir.....just plain out BAD ASS! And they've got a bunch of killer classics! Heavy shit IMHO:)
The choreography, the vocals, the clothes, the CHARISMA!; everything about the Temptations "back in the day" was completely OFF THE CHARTS! They were R&B/SOUL "Superheroes" who probably possessed capes, with the ability to fly! With all due respect to the many great Male vocal groups who flourished during the 60's & 70's, The "Tempts", (all things considered), were practically peerless. That's always been my ever-so-humble opinion, and damn it, I'm sticking with it!
This is my song even though it didn't have all the original temps on it, those new temps was holding there own here, and they are dancing there asses off
being a huge temptations, and funk fan had never heard this version. i love the delbert mcclinton version and thought it was his original. learn something everyday.
Well you can't help but be super funky when you have 2 of the original members of Funkadelic as a backing band for this track. Eddie Hazel and Billy Bass Nelson provided the rhythm section for this tune. Eddie even got a writing credit
I remember he had a hit with Don't Look Any Further, duetting with Siedah Garrett, but he should have had better solo career, cos he could seriously sing funk.
Lon Fontaine was working these boys. They probably had to take a few days off after performin on midnight special. The choreography is something else.
written by Billy "bass"Nelson and Eddie Hazel of Funkadelic a great classic funk song.

Midnight Special was the best. Bands got out there and did it live and EVERYBODY was on there. I miss the 70s. :-(....
JethroSandwich 1 year ago 2
@JethroSandwich That and plus they didn't fuck around like today's acts would be allowed to. Back then you had to bring it in EVERY performance.

I love this song since finding out that Eddie Hazel wrote it and performed guitar backup. Eddie of Funkadelic was spreading that funk!
