  • vasco de gama was an asshole..

  • Arrival of vasco da gama sparked of the beginning of european era in India and brought glory

  • @Laminatorinator...Glory to Portugal and colonialism to India.

  • @Lavourah the greatest pirate with royal patronage of all times!

  • do you even know who vasco da gama was... calling the man a murderer in a time when people thought the world was flat is just stupid, everybody was brutl back then, whites to blacks blacks to blacks yellow to whites and so on, the best and brightest impose themselfs and rule and thats what he did for the honor and glory of portugal and europe over our enemys at the time witch was islam and muslims

  • he was a fuckin murderer who burned children and women alive...fuckin europeans ruined tht nation man, no wonder they r getting islamified and crumbling , let it be destroyed its karma...........

  • @karthikthomask He had to, they didnt want to submit to the mighty portuguese!

  • @jfarinhote Oh yeah...They were children and women who were returning home after pilgrimage.he robbed them and then locked them up and burned the ship! so much for the glory of the Portuguese Empire which claims to have done all this to bring the light of Christianity to the world.Greed and conquest -these were the only motives of his journeys.

  • @kunaltom1 I was being sarcastic. Its obvious that behind all those "glory times" of every nation was death. That man was not different from the others. The problem is that too many people still think that way in the XXIst century.

I have one question to you. Do you know any other nation in the world with 10 million people that had achieved the same empire and influence as any other world power?

  • @jfarinhote in that sense i agree.but i cant agree when someone calls a successful sailor who burned a ship with pilgrims including women and children as 'great'.A person like Hitler might find him great, but to me and many like me who believe in higher ideals he is just a cruel cold blooded pirate. If you look up wikipedia for Vasco Da Gama you can find the whole history of his cruel misdeeds.

  • @kunaltom1 Yes, I'm not trying to deny that part either. You are right about that, I wont argue facts, I'm sure he is not considered great for that part of his "deeds"...

  • VASCO DA GAMA IS THE BEST FOOTBALL CLUB IN BRAZIL!

  • @Luso515PorTuoGraal "Chroniclers"

  • @tigerpoosha

yes i know they are coming. but i am not afraid about them. and otherwise. and your country must be a very human country. giving money for the army and not for the poor people… wow! very nice. here we can see AGAIN and one more time, that europe is more human and more intelligent.

  • @tigerpoosha That was the Armada of "revenge" because the massacre of a peacefull factory(only comercial, not military) of Portuguese Merchants left by Cabral, in a riot.

Nothing justifies the MURDER of INOCENT People.

But the history only survived because Portuguese Choroniclers: Correia, Castanheda, Barros and Pires. wrote it(detailed) and criticize Gama. The unique foreigner was the Flemish sailor at the service of Portugal and of da Gama.

  • "the brutal episodes described above are drawn from Portuguese sources" (only) "- specifically eyewitnes accounts and chronicles of the 16th C. This is not an Indian or modern perspective looking back - the Portuguese of the time were not comfortable with Gama's penchant towards brutality."

  • @tigerpoosha Yes, I think is a problem call Ceasar and other Emperors or Explores great. Destroyng entire villages and colective tribes in Gaul (even entire "civil" ones, families etc.(?) as some historians claim). But you need be coherent with all. Including the ones born in your country. Because they were great and many things, but not great at all in others, as we see in history. Gama had lights( religion tolerence and treatement above towards Hindus) and darks (Some Muslims).

  • @Luso515PorTuoGraal

This is what i am trying to explain. Vasco da Gama did good and bad things. Even the indians people did good things and bad things. But showing us the finger and saying we were the bad people which made the poor which we can see now in india is a little bit too much for me… the poverty in india is not our fault!

  • @xjoggix Yes, as a Historian say: " On the other hand, much of the violence was really only meted out on Gama's second journey (the 4th Armada of 1502), where Gama was under orders to take revenge (for the Calicut massacre of 1500). Not having enough men for an actual confrontation, Gama's unusually high degree of violence on that trip had a strategic purpose of terrorizing the Malabar coast, to drive away all merchant shipping away from Calicut and intimidate the Zamorin into compliance."

  • Comment removed

  • @xjoggix "...True, much of that brutality was gratuitous, reflective of Gama's own impetuous character and violent temperament. However, at other times Gama could be strangely sensitive - e.g. preventing his men from sacking Calicut when it lay broken and vulnerable, forbidding his ships from buying cattle for meat in Indian markets (didn't want to offend Hindu hosts)."

  • @Luso515PorTuoGraal I can agree with your views, maybe not all 100% but somewhat.I cant say the same about the self proclaimed 'I know it all better than you' -@xjoggix who, how it turns out from his last letter, is also a racist. I quote his words-here we can see AGAIN and one more time, that europe is more human and more intelligent.

  • Comment removed

  • @tigerpoosha I read his comments - I respect your sensibility(how to say this in english) I don´t see racism in his comments, if I read all.

Well all people like (more or less) the different world cultures - depends on each one.

I, for lectures, interests (spiritual and cultural) I Iike India´s milenar traditions, the Vedas and its cultures, who are important to all Eurasian and World civilizations, and important to us Portugal, in the extrem west of Europe, for our contacts etc.

  • Vasco da gama is a cruel idiot....he is far far from being great.....

  • Vasco da gama is a cruel idiot....he is far far from being great.....

  • he is a stupid.

  • i heat vasco da gama by seeing urumi

  • i heat vasco da gama by seeing urumi

  • this men fuckin blasted u dont know about this person blastedddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd

  • this cruel man.......i was at the time of his arrival in calicut i woul-d cut his body parts....vasco da gama-the rabby dog

  • @sarariro Vasco da Gama and some men may have been, and were sometimes cruel, but also escaped the many traps and attacks made against themby many cruel men in Eastern Africa and Asia.

  • @Luso515PorTuoGraal vasco da gama the cruel has cut many peoples ears,nose,lips........he also colonized my country-india.....

  • @Luso515PorTuoGraal

    You've right.

I think Vasco da Gama may have been very cruel. But not less cruel than all other cultures. Through the line of the history, Portugal was attacked by the arabians (muslims), by the spanish soldiers and many other.

This is not a reason that Vasco da Gama killed and attacked some indians people. But what i will say, even your people, attacke portugues people. Even your people is cruel. And in my opinion, colonizing your country was the best thing for india…

  • @xjoggix I understand friend yor idea. I´m Portuguese myself, I only try to be mostly imparcial I can. And to put that was a time, far from homeland, with all excesses from both sides - mostly Muslims vs Portuguese - even with the standards of the time, I realize that some things and sad events are not aceptable yesterday or today. Thanks.

  • @Luso515PorTuoGraal I am sorry my post wasn't for you it was for sarariro.

I am half Portugues. My father is from Portugal and my Mother is from Switzerland but my heart is 100% Portugues. I have read every books (history, art and others) about portugal. I think only because Portugal the world changed a lot. Without Portugal, we never know the beautiful mix with more differents cultures. And Say that a Portugues is cruel or bad, it make me sad, because look the Portugues story, architecture

  • da Gama looted the ship with over 400 pilgrims on board including 50 women, locked in the passengers, the owner and an ambassador from Egypt and burnt them to death.

he is a stupid. hi is a villein

  • @Luso515PorTuoGraal even the kitchen culture of portugal were inspired from more differents cultures.

Look the Mosteiro dos Jerónimos is a good exemple, the architecture was inspired from more differents cultures. I think Portugal is open for everything and is not so closed.

Indians People wo complains we were bad, for them i have only one answer, their cultures, with their shit culture about Caste, with their shit culture about forced marriage between a 14 years girl and 60 years old man…

  • @xjoggix . shit culture? Listen you imbecile, About 3500 years back when the whole of Europe was a big village and your ancestors were running around clad in animal skins killing each other for meat and women,we Indians had an Urban civilization.Look for 'Indus valley civilization' on google and you will understand.Caste system was actually meant to bring about order in the society but as time went on,it misfired.Da Gama was just a pirate who looted and killed. That is shit culture!

  • @tigerpoosha

and what about nowaday? india is since 15.08.1947 not anymore under the british crown. since more than 60 years, they aren't able to be a country which is based on democracy and with a culture, which is not inhuman!

about 3500 years they might be a great civilisation and i am one who is interessed in old civilisation and i think i have read much more books than you! i know the history much more better than you, so don't tell me what i have to do! i know the indian story.

  • @xjoggix . what makes you think that you have read much more books than me? I will tell you what makes you think that ,its just the prejudice of a former colonialist. You ask why India is not yet a fully developed democracy in all sense of the term? It's bcoz after centuries of exploitation and cultural invasion, what was left in 1947 was a demoralized nation neck deep immersed in a material as well as cultural identity crisis. It will take many more years to be resolved.

  • @xjoggix the fault is always the country which has colonized the landy. We might be cruel. But give a lot. A lot! And how can you explain me that some countries was rich when they was colonized and now they were nothing? We don't wasted anything. Your people wasted. that's all. Ok freedom is the most important thing. And I support it. But I think when the Portuguese were still there, they had more freedom…Why? Think it about you educated person!

  • @tigerpoosha

vasco da gama may be a cruel man! but he is a brave man who defend his country and his religion. he did a great story in finding a way to india. not only he killed people! even your people killed other people! and listen, don't write here any shit. I was last year in india and i saw how they embrace other people! It was terrible!!!

  • @xjoggix . It is clear from what you say -you are not even a properly educated person. The way you construct your sentences, the silliness of your arguments and this- "listen, don't write here any shit. I was last year in india and i saw how they embrace other people! It was terrible!!!".It's all so funny and stupid. Vasco Da Gama is actually just a glorified pirate who had Royal patronage. He was lead by insatiable greed supported by a cruel heart which knew no compassion.Great Sailor-My foot!

  • @tigerpoosha

not educated? If you think so! I know, my english isn't the best. I don't glorify Vasco da Gama. Unlike you, I can say how terrible Vasco was with indians people. Unlike you, I don't support everything what Vasco did.

And uhhhh, I just read all the comments you wrote here, you must be really really really a educated person! A person who loves the movie urumi and thinks that urumi is a sort of documentary movie…a cheap movie which is has more lovestory = documentary movie…

  • @xjoggix we do not what any colonizing we war all reedy colonized at that time and we have what we want. you destroyed or country for your sake.

thinking like this is your stupidity. think with your brain.

  • Huge crimes like that on Pilgrim ship.

  • Also unarmed Men in majority: the Cabral´s factory and Mission left in land, as the civil Pilgrim Muslims were all unarmed, as the embassador acused as "spy" was.

We think Vasco da Gama regret and repented about those war actions or orders and crimes (but also in both sides some of that war and criminal actions had took place).

  • why you removed the comment of Subashsasi?? bcoz Sathyathinte mugham eppoyum vikruthamaanu....mone.

  • Vasco da gama was not so great........His atrocities in India, made him the Villain,in the historical books of India. He was a crank wanderer with cruelty under a sheeps skin.No man can deny this ,if he who knows about history of India, especially kerala.Malicious Gama stiched ear of a dog to a messenger of the king of kerala, called Zamorins ,and allowed to return to the king. Also he burned 500 people along with their childrens alive in a ship, who returned from Mecca. These are truth. Not 4 argument.

  • @Sampookkayil Were horrible crimes. A Chronicle say that he saved the chidren, but even if was true, was still a terrible crime.

You forget the massacre against Cabral´s Portuguese comercial mission (against many unarmed Men). Vasco da Gama justified his actions in retaliation by that - which by the way never was excuse to Da Gama´s crimes and abuses against those People in our view.

And if you know all this its only thanks to various Portuguese Chronistes who desaprouve those crimes.

  • @Luso515PorTuoGraal Also unarmed Men in majority: the Cabral´s factory and Mission left in land, as the civil Pilgrim Muslims were all unarmed, as the embassador slandered as "spy" was.

  • When abuses had took place were the Portuguese Chronicles and the Portuguese chroniclers who made reports for posterity and based in People, captains and crew that participated against their true will.

(These culturated People. Only discovered history by wikipedia, Any way, its an apart)

  • Obviously the men who spent several sacrifices in oceans, joined 2 of the 3 great Oceans, the Western Hemisphere to the Eastern Hemisphere by the Cape Route are Heroes and greatest people in Portugal, Europe and world and the protagonists of Epics like "Os Lusiadas" (like Vasco da Gama and his Men amongst many Heros) and other literary works of 500 years ago and of today and in monuments.

  • There's something like a mith. In Brazil Vasco is a Mith. He's a cold blooded murder?

That's the reality of history. But on the reality of the Brazil, he's not history, but a mith. And what we take about his person is not on the belic side, but on the explorer, on the navigator. Vasco, in Brazil, is a team that was pioneer on accepting black people to play. And, by that, he was the team that made soccer popular around here. Vasco!! Abraço

  • great Vasco da Gama......dude he's just a cold blooded murderer

read history before posting stupid things like this

  • @joaovasco69 you first read topics 'Second voyage' and 'Pilgrim ship incident' in vasco da gama's article in wikipedia.

before you call him GREAT you idiot.

I WOULD LIKE TO SEE U IN REAL LIFE,SO THAT I COULD CUT OFF UR EARS AND INSTEAD OF THEM STITCH ON DOGS EARS,THE SAME WAY THAT ASSHOLE VASCO DA GAMA DID WITH THE INDIAN MESSENGER.VASCO DA GAMA IS A BARBARIAN PIRATE WHOM EUROPEANS GLORIFIED.SINCE YOU SUPPORT THAT ANIMAL THAT MEANS YOU WOULD ALSO LOCK UP WOMEN AND CHILDREN AND BURN THEM ALIVE.
