That bit about the fork is slightly unture. Fork's weren't popularized until the Restoration but Henry VIII had one. He sort of pioneered the use of it.
Funny how Giles calls himself a fatso even though he's normally around 11% bodyfat, which is not a lot at all, while Sue is around 28%, making her far more... well, not quite slim.
@Hotshotter3000 28% is pretty average for women. 11% for men is athletic. I'm thinking that Giles does a fair bit of exercise to counteract his gormandising lifestyle.
he's a man, they don't have as much body fat as women.. in order to have babies women store more fat, it offers protection to the infant. Woman who don't have enough body fat, will stop having periods and have difficulty concieving, so it's in their genetics. doesn't mean it makes them look fat or weigh more. it's normal.
I thought about handedness as soon as the chef gave them those napkin thingamajigs. As Giles points out later, there is a slightly unusual element to their use of utensils because both he and Sue are left-handed. (Or at least they both write with their left hands.) Go, lefties!
@optimisticbabe She is basically saying that Giles is making a big deal out of nothing aka she is insulting his manhood...if you catch my drift. Although it's actually a quote from Macbeth.
Why even bother with the medical examinations in the beginning? We all know that people back in the day had short miserable lives so eating like they did will obviously make one less healthy one way or the other.
I'm a little surprised at all the horniness Giles inspires. Nothing wrong with him, I just wouldn't have expected him to be such lust amongst the females and the gays.
Thanks for posting, I'm loving this series, it is surprising just how much food reveals about a society, it is a wonderful insight to the featured periods of history. :)
Holy sh?t, i can hear Giles eat even when i clicked on the mute button. That guy eats louder and more sloppy than a pig with down syndrome.

What does: 'That is all sound and fury signifying nothing' mean.
optimisticbabe 1 year ago
@optimisticbabe it means its all for show
salemgirl123 1 year ago
@optimisticbabe It's from Macbeth: "Life's but a walking shadow a poor player
that struts and frets his hour upon the stage,
and then is heard no more. It is a tale
told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,
Signifying nothing."
GrainneMhaol 1 year ago
@optimisticbabe basically, it means over-compensation.
