Id' recommend getting an astronomy tripod with gears so you can turn it gradually w/out all the shaking. Also, try putting some kind of weight sand bag over each leg of the tripod so it stops wiggling all the time. I have the same problem with my P100. For those still looking to buy something, get a Canon. Their vibration reduction motor is FAR superior to Nikon's. I think their Sx40 model has a lot more potential than the P500. More exposure options on the Canon as well.
@huskersend its incredibly hard to keep it still, it was on a tripod i was moving it to get the view of the moon, if its zoomed so much any movement could be seen as an earthquake like shake haha, c'mon it's the moon!
@MeAndMyNikon in that case you need a new tripod, or move to somewhere a little less prone to MASSIVE EARTHQUAKES. or....take your hand off the tripod when you're at full zoom.
@MeAndMyNikon well i kinda ate my words, b/c i JUST got my new p100, and it's harder than i suspected it would be to take steady shots. I dont have a tripod, so i laid on my back and set the camera on my face while looking through the viewfinder, trying to take a decent video of the moon. Harder than i thought it would be, but it worked great for stills.
Hi, just wondering, is it possible to change the shutter speed for movie mode by having the p100 in manual? I'd like it to run a very high shutter speed for jerky action shots. Is it possible?
@notsocomicaltv I'm actually not sure. but if you go into the S wich is shutter priority, you can make the shutter speed high, up to 8 seconds, so you can make light paintings. not really what you asked but cool tip! :P
Hey Brother... It's really awesome... Can you pls tell me the settings you had to set to take this video? Because I tried several times to take a clear picture of the moon using my Nikon P100, but I managed to get only a big white ball. Thanks in advance!!!
@Rajivw1000 I was thinking the same thing, then I read the discription. MeAndMyNikon wrote "Zooming in all the way at the moon. The ISO is 2.0.0 so that you can see the detail on the moon". I guess we would go to the camera settings not the movie settings to change the ISO.
@fincloser1230 Yeah what you do is, on the little click pad... go to the right. the icon with the [+/-] then you go all the way down with the [flower icon] untill you reach 2.0.0.
