Congratulations to Commissioned and Shirley Caesar for being honored as the BMI trailblazers for their years of service. It was a long time coming. The ceremony takes place in January 2011. They are my favorite male gospel group who did not water down the message of Jesus Christ in song.
I wish commission would get back together one more time[ please] i learn melody and harmony from them and how to pronounce the words you sing correctly i would want to be their for that
They were the best. The Winans reached an older fan base and Commissioned reached a younger crowd. When you went to a Commissioned concert you jammed, worshipped and left uplifted. You didn't want the experience to end. Pastor Chris-STBC
Commissioned set the stage for many of the secular artists of that time - Music is Gods and they knew it and took total advantage of the gift gave them and expressed it. It has influenced me and man other men like me who grew up with them. I am 48 and Commissioned is my generation. My style and expression of singing was formed by them as well as Steview, Donnie and other artists like that. They have a lagacy that will withstand time and their old music is going to be rebirthed inthis generation.
The number 1 singing aggregation EVER assembled........These tunes kept my ear out of the world and fixed on Gospel music and the message of Christ's love..... Powerful lyrics, flawless production, uncompromising message, and ministry at it's finest... From 85 to today...The Music Industry's finest....The MOTOR CITY SUPERGROUP!!!!!!!!
The Orginal Commissioned was one of a kind..... God was with them. I loved when they would sing at Greater Grace Detroit back in the 80's... Bishop Ellis love them too! Those were the good ole' dayz
Hey, This is Mitchell Jones. Thanks for all of your comments. It's a blessing to know that God is still using these songs to bless people. If you can, tell everyone you know to request "Ordinary just won't do" the reunion CD, on the secular radio stations. This song was before its time. I really think the door is open for the world to be blessed by it.
Is this really Mitchell Jones? Either way, Commissioned blessed so much especially when I was going through some things and the songs brought back to mind the words of scripture. Praise God. But Mitchell Jones singing "you can depend on Jesus", you don't know how the Lord spoke to me and comforted me through that song even though I heard it years after the first release! I have all the albums...most lol. Love those guys!
Thank God for this forum, I've always wanted share my gratitude b/c ur ministry helped to keep me grounded and comforted during the foundation of my walk with Christ as a teen. I still love the oldies from you guys. My alltime fav group.. The Lord kept me thru sooo much, great havin ur encouragement these yrs. Grace n Peace to u Mitchell Jones, I luv ya!!
I couldn't have read this right did you say you are THE Mitchell Jones! CAn you give all of Comissioned a mesage PLEASE! YOU guys are the bread and butter of gospel music. From the words to the musicality and harmonies I'm a die hard fan! I only 16 but i know what good music is! I bought the reuiniuon dvd and I know every song.
P.S. I would LOVE to sing with you guys! I don;t love too far from fred! Im in Fort Worth!
This is so interesting! I was at the musical on this night. You know we really had church that year in Memphis. We stayed at that musical until about four o'clock Sunday Morning. Boy, times really bring about a change
Listen to Freds vocals 2:21-2:24 and 2:37-2:41 WOOOOOO and Karl Reids high pitch note KILLED IT...i cant help watching it i watch every week aleast once SINCE its been added lol this is just...can u imagine if we still had more groups, choirs, chorals, solo artist singin under the annointing!!!
They were the PERFECT combination of pure worship, beautiful harmony, and raw sole all tied together. They achieved a level of spirituality through music that cannot be found today. This video makes me want to shout every time I watch it. The organ brought a different sound than the keyboards they normally use, and give the drummer his props because he was really making this song kick. Thank you for posting this. Be blessed!!
These men are bound together whether they have solo careers or not - they cannot escape it. Without "Commissioned" we may not have heard of Keith Staten or Fred Hammond...AND Marvin Sapp should always (regardless of personal issues) thank and mention Commissioned
Come on you all stop being in denial. Commissioned broke up because of personal challenges and differences in the group. They tried staying together but it just didn't work...I totally agree with launching out into personal careers, but that wasn't the case with them in the initial phase....
Sadly, they aloud the enemy to come in and destroy what could have been "Awesome"...Just think what they would be today "if" they would have died to "self"....I think we all really miss the original group...
i think the group forming their own careers was the plan of God or they wouldn't have been so successful. I mean Fred Hammond and Marvin Sapp's careers have blessed many and continue to be successful. I believe Mithchel and Keith also made a CD.
I have to diagree with that. Would they have grown indivually if they would have stayed together as a group? Sometimes God wants us to leave out from what's familiar so we can really step into our real destiny and purpose for our lives (remember Abraham)
Your comment is in comparison to apples and oranges..Abraham left Ur due to his understanding of God being Monotheistic...Just curious what city do you live in.
Milwaukee, WI Commissioned was a awesome group, but they only went so far in coming to the fullness of the call on their lives. would Fred hammond have became the praise and worship that we know today or would Marvin Sapp have been able to release never would have made it if they were still trying to do the contemporary gospel that they were known for. Think about it
Why is that you have so many groups who are still together but take time to fulfill their solo acts as well? I am not saying that they should be completely together now.,.What I was saying was in the "earlier years" their group had challenges that could have been addressed if "Egos" would have died".
Your answer is so typical...Of course, in this season of their life it is expected for them to have launch out into solo careers.
I could watch this all day.. My goodness they never and still don't get the recognition they deserve. I would love to see more of the old commissioned when they first started. I hope somebody could figure out how to post them.. I use to love seeing Fred play the bass and sing.. I never understood why Commissioned is so overlooked in the Gospel and christian music community.. But there influenced on music are boundless..
To all the Commissioned Fans out there I've compiled all of the group's projects and most of the groups hottest tracks from the first album in '85 thru '2000...can't get too much from the baddest group around...truly Gospel Legends!!
These guys were trend setters! I don't think anybody else sang like that in the mid 80's in the secular world. I mean these guys were "running" long before Boyz to Men, and New Edition starting doing there thing! This video, though it is old, it is still current, to me!! Check out the Reunion version of this song, there's almost no difference! WoW Praise God!!!
Every time I look at this video it sends chills through me. Commissioned is the BEST group of all time. If you listen to all of their albums you can see that they talked about real life issues and also took music to the next level. I heard that Marvin Sapp is supposed to preach at the COOLJC youth congress and Mitchell Jones is going to sing.
I have all of their peformances on video. I have the peformance in 1987 when they released Go Tell Someobody. I would love to bless you guys with the footage but I just don't know how to download it in Youtube. I also have the Number 7 Videos and their Matters of the Heart concert. I am telling you guys, Commissioned is my favorite group of all time.
Maybe you can contact aphlat, the poster of this video, and find out how he did it. You know there was no camera phone there.LOL!God bless all who keep this group alive in our hearts and minds.
Man!!! This is the group of groups. COMMISSIONED BABY!! Mitchell Jones, Karl Reid, Keith Staten, and Fred Hammond. I saw them for the first time when I was 11 years old when their "On The Winning Side" dropped back in 1987. Ever since then I have followed every album up until their reunion. Man, they don't make groups like they use to. It was all about Jesus.
Well they didnt actually split up, Fred helped produce Marvin Sapp's debut album soon after their last original album and they all are still very much involved in each other's endeavors. They're still brothers of course..
i luv commissioned i wish they can have a big reunion or do somethin just one more time. and i think they were handsome then they still is. my favorite is karl reid. peace out!!!
The guy singing is Mitchell Jones and the group is no longer together due to having their individual singing careers including Fred...I would love to see them come together one last time as they did with their reunion CD back in '02
i hate to bust anybody's bubble but it is simply not true --i loved these boys music too and would love to see them back again but it wont be happening without a miracle --Karl Reid goes to my church-thats how i know
Is it bad blood or business or is everyone just doing their own thing? Or am I just digging too deeply into someone's business? LOL I don't mean no harm. I just like what I like.
well kpitt it might be a little of all those things --they care about each other but they outgrew their relationships with each other-and probably cause they were never really celebrated till after they quit-arguably the most influential contemporary of their time
Wow! It makes sense. I had never heard of the group but had seen an album cover. I was in a store and a guy put their cassette in a stereo to test it out. I asked him who it was and left the store and bought one of their albums. Been hooked ever since. Well, at least they care about each other. That is a happy ending....sort of. Thanks for the info. Another group ahead of its time.
My brother Ken and I are HUGE Commissioned fans, and I'm not hating with this comment. But...what the HECK was Karl doing on that second "for his grace is mooooooooooooore than enough...?" HAHAHAHAHAHA!! That was sooo funny! I can't get past that part! LABO!!! Love you Karl! Holla!
Karl Reid, Mitchell Jones, Keith Staten and Fred Hammond, Michael Williams and Michael Brooks: I just KNEW that SOMEBODY had to have some more video on ya'll! Earl Wright did an awesome job on arranging this traditional favorite YEARS ago! COMMISSIONED IS STILL MY ALL TIME FAVORITE GROUP! The original Commissioned is definitely one of the few, if not the only Gospel group that Benny Hinn would have had to minister at his crusades to increase the anointing in the service, especially this song!
I remember this night when Dr. Mattie Moss Clark Introduced them to the world at the dixie meyer hall, at the famous saturday night midnight musical. The dixie myer hall use to be next door to the convention center in Memphis which is no longer there.......great memories of the past
God Bless whoever posted this. This is my absolute favorite gospel group of all time. This does bring a lot of memories lina82. (Fred sounds that same today as he did back then). LOVE IT!!!!
This is what it's all about. I love Commissioned and have been listening to them since I was in my mother's womb. Thanks for posting this awesome video. It brings back so many wonderful memories!!!
