I think she made one or two films with Gigli: is this perhaps from one of them?
She was the Donna Anna to Tauber's last Don Ottavio at Covent Garden on 27 September 1947, less than a week before his caancerous left lung was removed. She herself died of cancer on 9 June 1949, aged 39.
Her husband, the actor Gustav Diessl, died in 1948.
Their two young sons were adopted by pianist Clifford Curzon and his wife.

Yummy and plummy! Maria also had stage and movie presence. A Moldavian Jeanette MacDonald, but better.
