what is the rate of fire on those? 4200 rpm?? i counted at least 30 rounds a second from one them guns (video frame rate LOL) but i think they fired faster than that.
"Die Entwicklung erfolgte durch das schweizerische Unternehmen Oerlikon Bührle, das heute zusammen mit der Contraves AG als Oerlikon Contraves AG Teil der deutschen Rheinmetall Defence ist."
@dlseth2 actually if its a deployable static defence is quite good for base defence in places like afganistan where mortar fire on u.s bases is a daily routine its quite possible that a deployable version of this static defence platform would do lots of good (if it really works)
@52111centrumcz Naval CIWS already exist and there are some solid options available. Use Phalanx systems or Goalkeepers instead; both are available through Germany's allies, respectively the US and the Netherlands. As for semi-static defences on forward bases, one needs to think bigger; why even bother to operate a defensive force in a hostile area?
this uses AHEAD ammunition, which the goalkeeper is not able to utilize; by using a cooled single barrel rapid fire weapon, the precision in short bursts is improved. By using ahead and a more precise weapon, much fewer shots need to be fired, the entire system is MUCH lighter, more accurate and allows engagement of a larger number of targets (by rapid switching) at a time. You do realize forward bases need to be defended, right?
And Oerlikon Bührle / Oerlikon Contraves was founded 1906 in Switzerland. The gun developments go back into the 80s and in this time Oerlikon Contraves was a independent company and it was an independent company untill 1999. So it is a Swiss development and is produced in Switzerland.
@Quetzalgoatl Yeah I find it funny too. I see this cannon every day in our factory hall, when I go to work (in Switzerland) in this company. And you want to tell me, that this cannon actually is German?

Rheinmetall was one of the largest arms manufacturers in the German Empire,The merger led to the renaming in 1936, Rheinmetall-Borsig AG,Rheinmetall-Borsig from the mid-1930s on behalf of the Reich Ministry of War weapons and ammunition. The production ranged from machine guns and cannons on anti-tank guns, mortars and field guns to anti-aircraft guns and rail guns.
For development and construction of armored tracked vehicles was founded in 1937 in Berlin, the subsidiary Alkett (Altmärkische chain works) (see also: mining scheme). 1938 the company moved its headquarters from London to Berlin.Even with creation of the Bundeswehr in 1956 a defense technology production program was launched. Rheinmetall produced machine guns, submachine guns and ammunition. The first product was the MG1.
The production of heavy weapons such as guns and gun barrels, was recorded back in 1964, in 2004 Together with RAFAEL Ltd.. Diehl and munitions systems based Rheinmetall Defence Electronics GmbH, the joint venture € spike GmbH, which is acting as general contractor for the Spike missile family. This group produces nearly all types of weapons the German army. This AG, German was and still is today! Even if parts for manufacturing and in Switzerland it is still a German company and will remain so!
you can really shoot down artillery?... i bet all you need is a good fire team or 2 or 3 artillery pieces firing at 1 target and these things wont be able to track
@Quetzalgoatl The Company's name is "Rheinmetall Air Defence AG" and the company's former name untill 2009 was "Oerlikon Contraves". This company is founded 1906 in Switzerland and is still there!
@fruitraider What I read on another youtube vid was, that the gun was developed by a german (Becker) who did so to avoid restrictions imposed on germany by the allies. If that is true, its a gun developed by a german in switzerland.
I asked yesterday someone from the design departement from RAD who works on this gun. He said, that the cannon itself has been designed by a company in Geneva about 30 years ago. But he has no idea who the developer of the gun was. So there is a good possibility that it really was developed by a german in Switzerland.
@fruitraider Auf Basis des von Oerlikon Contraves bereits seit Jahrzehnten für die Flugabwehr genutzten 35-mm-Maschinenkanonenkalibers und der dafür verfügbaren AHEAD-Munition entwickelte die Rheinmetall Air Defence die 35-mm-Revolverkanone GDF 020, ein Feuerleitradar sowie eine Kommandozentrale. the development of this un begun in 2004 in only used the approved 35-mm Ammunition with AHEAD from Oerlikon
