  • We miss you Jason !!! \m/

  • i was cliff all the way untill i heard this and even though cliff is without a doubt the greatest minded bassist ive seen jason deserves way more respect than what hes given

  • Welcome Home, awesome version.

Nothing Else Matters, too. They're both awesome.

  • Welcome Home, awesome version.

  • Jason is the best!!! He is the reason I started playing bass guitar. But hey I think it's kinda wierd they started playing sanatariam at the end of jason's solo, sanataraim was a song burton did, do think that pissed jason off?

  • @snowpunk41

wow... really??? your comment is probably one of the dumbest things I've read in awhile. Why in the world would Jason be pissed off that they starting playing Sanitarium? Because he didn't record the song in the studio? or Kirk and James thought up another way to haze Jason live?? Dude, these sets are predetermined by the band and if you didn't realize, Jason had been with Metallica way longer than Cliff. Jason loved Metallica and played it all... PERIOD!

  • @imisterchris Ok, Dude, I just asked if he was pissed because there are people out there that were mad they replaced Cliff. Kirk, James, and Lars did also do things to piss Jason off, they even said they liked to joke around with him. Of course I know jason has been with them longer, and if you think my comments are dumb, then don't fuckin read them.... PERIOD!

  • Truely luve!

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY KIRK xD

  • Oh, I really want to know from wich song is the first that he plays, before My Friend Of Misery... HAHA

  • Do you know where can i find a bass tab for this? I tried on 911.com but it seems not the same.

  • this is mind blowing!! METALLICA! METAL UP UR ASSS! YEAHHH!

  • this is one of the first things i learned to play on my bass, used to have an Ibanez SG-5 5-string, I used a Dan Electro "Milkshake" pedal, sounds identical

  • Miss you,Jas!!!

  • jasons back up vocals were the best by far. he MADE -human with the "coming up for" line

  • Tuned half step sown

  • @bassstretcher I think This is Standard Tunig " E " .. I Play This in "E" Standard

  • what key is in? what tuning?

  • fuckin awesome epic fuckin jason was and will be swesome

  • best since CLIFF

  • Awesome, awesome solo!

  • he is such a great bass player, i think most people take him for granted because cliff was before him. dont get me wrong cliff was probably the best bass player ever, but he is really good too

  • He have a great style, with finger, with pick, slaping, all the bass styles are cool.

I prefer finger, but the songs played with pick, MUST BE PLAYED WITH PICK

  • i love the solo

  • That sadowsky bass has such a killer tone!

  • Very True!

  • Why did u leave the band Jason???:'-(

  • jason is good but when kirk comes in with the whaa whaa peddle thats better but rob trujillo is way better.

  • its not a wah pedal, its a gain pedal

  • god I love that solo. makes me want to cry ; )

  • naprawdę można się na tym zawiesić, brakuje mi starej Metallica..

  • anyone got a good tab of this ?

  • yep.. but your comment was added 4 months ago.. still want it?

  • i hate people that say bass player that use a pick suck just because jason uses a pick doesnt mean he suck its just what he uses i use my fingers and pick and when i play rhcp cover i do a lot of slaping and poping and slaping is by far the hardest to learn i have been playing bass for over five years and im still trying to perfect slaping and after that you have to search for the right sound byond that i think jason is proof that you can use a pick and still be a great bass player

  • Awesome video, but my only problem with Jason is, why would you wear a shirt of your own band on stage?

  • many bands do it

  • why not? free clothes :D

  • In case he forget the bands name of course!!

  • he wasn't originally in metallica he was a huge fan before he joined it...

  • why shouldnt he? he once said he chose to not marry and have kids for the music he loves, and that music is probably (was) metallica teh most :D

  • Jason Newstead WAS Metallica.. This has made me think.. I'm gona go learn how to play bass with a pick.

  • why just cuz newsted did?lame reason

  • Nothing wrong with having a rolemodel, or someone to look up to with your instrument.

If you like the work from bassists that's using picks, then I think you should go for it.

I learned to play bass with my fingers instead because I liked the sound better, but people like John Myung, Cliff Burton, John Entwistle has been my source of inspiration :P

    Rock on \m/

  • im a finger player to,the first time i heard anesthesia,i started playing

  • Been a quitarist for 3 years. This guy just inspired me to buy a bass.

Once heard someone say 'Jason Newsted was the best thing that happened to Metallica, Bob Rock was the best thing that happened to Jason Newsted.'

    Made me think.....

  • Guys u can compair to rob yet he's not even released anything new we have still to hear the new record so just wait and see. but no 1 beats Cliff Burton he is the god of bass!

  • newstead can give him a run for his money i think

  • No, we don't want his cock in our mouths, well maybe someone does but not me, I'd just like to jam with the guy.

  • jason<3<3<3

  • jasons the man

this is the best guitar solo in history

how come he hasnt been crowned king

  • because its not the best solo in history...

its good, it sounds nice, but its absolutely nothing compared to Anethesia (pulling teeth) from kill 'em all by cliff burton (the real king)

  • well i think it is

  • in my oppinion it's the best bassist they ever had.. no flaming thank you

  • Although I like Cliff and Rob abit better I think this is a awesome solo. It's a chill song.

  • jason was there for ages his hardpick style was the reason I started playing bass.. cool dude was the only metallica member not to get a big head not even for a while

  • He inspired me to play bass too lol

  • yea Cliff liked to shred...but his solos are extremely melodic. if you slow them down like i like to to when i play them on my bass...mainly cause i cant play to speed...they are not just shred solos.

  • could this solo be find in a song, or on an album?

  • My friend of misery

  • what kind of effects pedal is kirk using

  • Its an Ernie Ball Volume pedal.

  • cheers

  • @WhammySammy dont listen to goldfinger...its a vox wah/volume pedal.

  • Why does everybody always feel the need to argue about Metallica's bassist? If you like Cliff so much go watch his video instead of coming to watch a Newstead video with no intent other than to bitch about how bad he sucked and how good Cliff was. Why can' people just accept that different people like different things?

  • And play differently, they both put their own spin to metallica, I enjoy all of the metallica albums from Cliff, Jason, and Rob

  • Well said. Always the bullshit 'bout who's better.

I must admit that I miss Jason's background voice sometimes. But with Rob, Metallica got a new sound (which i like btw.). Cliff Jason and Rob are all good in their own way!

  • i like newstead and cliff, but im not a huge fan of rob. cliff and newstead had lots of melody in their music. esepecially their solos.

  • I don't want to rag on Newsted, but Burton's solos kill this.

  • Especially with his Aria SB series, I own several Aria basses, and they kick ASS

  • I've got an Ibanez SR506 and I love it. However, where'd you get your Aria I'd love to try one...or get that infamous Ric 4001.

  • Ebay usually has them floating around for a reasonable price.

Some nice ones float in and out now and than, and so do some shitty ones so shop wisely.

  • I don'

t see how Burton's solo killed this in any way. Burton's solo's were more or less lame guitar licks played on bass with alot of noise other bullshit gimics thrown in for good measure.

I was wondering how long it would be before one of Cliff Burton's nutswingers felt the need to post in here.

  • WTF man? Burton's solo is way better. Burton was classically trained and taught a lot of theory to Metallica. The only "noise or other bullshit" is his Big Muff pedal. He is not only a legend but an innovator of the role of the bass in the metal genre. Ask any Metallica fan and I bet that most of them will tell you that Burton was the best bassist that Metallica has ever had.

  • Jason just has a much different style, Jason is more about simplicity and being very melodic when soloing, Cliff liked to shred.

  • nice

  • i have always loved this for some reason, maybe its the effects on the bass? haha hell i dunno

  • lol i like the ways it merges into nothing else matters

  • is it possible / legal to save this video file on my computer? I really like it :)

  • It is possible with TubeLeech

  • dude what about the ride/kill medleys?

  • I just save what I like and upload what I have.
