The Gamecube wasn't able to make a whole zelda world with these kind of graphics. Only a cutscene. That is why Twilight princess didn't look as good as this tech demo.
After playing A Link to the Past/Four Swords, Ocarina of Time & Majora's Mask, I gotta say that good or bad, Wind Waker was not what I was expecting or hoping for. That being said, no matter how much I like Wind Waker, it'll always be a somewhat disappointment. I still remember reading the game informer & rubbing my eyes to check if what I was looking at was real - that this new Zelda I've been dreaming about is... this... I honestly wouldn't be surprised if some kids cried hahaha.

Anybody else a little worried that the Wii U Zelda will turn into cartoon graphics? Nintendo is great at pulling this bait and switch. There was this, TP was supposed to be Windwaker 2, Skyward Sword was supposed to have Twilight Princess graphics. Not complaining necessarily, but if you're gonna have 1080p HD graphics it should look realistic, otherwise whats the point? You dont need HD to show a cartoon. Especially for a system that has unbelievable lighting effects.
@ValinKrai Don't mean to be a dick, but fuck that, there has already been 3 games with cel-shading WW-esque graphics. If you're going to tout your 1080p HD graphics, its gotta be realistic, otherwise whats the point? I think TP fans deserve another serious/mature looking game. I don't have a huge issue with the other games, its just so much more enjoyable and immersive with a more serious look.
@zzyzx0788 Don't get my wrong, I understand how you feel, but Wind Waker was only 480p and the DS games 240p. I love realistic graphics too, but Wind Waker type graphics would benefit a lot from having the crispness of 1080p. Personally, I found Wind Waker the most immersive (Though MM will always be my favorite). It felt more emotional, had amazing music, was visually more appealing than the muddy TP. That said, I won't mind either way. I just don't find TP that visually appealing.
@ValinKrai I can understan your feelings on TP. Personally I thought the game was alot more in depth on an emotional scale than most Zelda games. Artstyle-wise its probably still my favorite, it was a bit dark and drab for the most part but it was still a really colorful game. I especially liked the neon orange, blue and red colors that so many things had in the Twilight Realm. It looked awesome. But on Wind Waker, its an interesting style but theyve done it enough already
Nintendo may have set themselves up for the same situation with the Wii U Zelda tech demo, as I don't think the look of the tech demo is what they'll go with when they do make a game on the Wii U. It looks to much like Twilight Princess, and I think they'll go with something new.

I was a little disappointed when I found out this idea was scratched for Wind Waker, but then I realized that it was one of the greatest Zelda games/games overall I've ever played in my opinion. I LOVED it!

I'm sure this must be the sequel of Majora's Mask. Because when Link is returned back in time, Ganondorf is still there. And after he defeated Majora, he might brought back the shield he got from Termina and pulled the Master Sword and defeat Ganondorf like in this video.
the thing is that tech demo is what majora's mask sequel would have been and the link in it IS the hero of time who grew up naturally. they scrapped that legend to make a new legend with a new link. so you can'T really compare windwaker with this demo as they're not the same.
@thorn96 Its the Hylian shield and its been in pretty much all the zelda games through the series since it was introduced in a link to the past I think. There have been slight changes but its pretty much the same shield.
@samesvids but it's the same design from majora's mask if you look carefully. so maybe they planned a sequel to it since ganondorf never was defeated in that timeline.

My only complain is.... Why did they not use this type of graphics when they released OOT for the gamecube along with Master Quest? Instead they use the original port.... That would be fine if... WE DIDN'T HAVE A COLLECTORS EDITION.... Yes the 3DS remake looks good... But OOT deserves better. It deserves a full console HD remake.
I kind of understand why so many people were angry when they found out the next Zelda game for the GameCube was going to look like that, after they already got a GameCube demo shown of a more serious and realistic Link. But Wind Waker was a great game though, and I think Twilight Princess was what Shigeru Miyamoto put out to happy the fans again, and now OoT 3D is coming out which is the more serious Link, and Skyward Sword is like a combination of both serious and not as serious! :D
@Darklinkzelda Twilight Princess was definitely fan service. Skyward Sword artwork-wise actually has nothing to do with those games' style, its based on impressionistic artwork (which makes me like it).

The graphics in this demo look so good to me. They should've released this, as it's arguably what most people would've wanted; the graphics and style look just like that of OoT and MM, except with the graphical capacities the GameCube has. And really, I love Wind Waker, but I would have preferred something like this. The graphics just don't fit something like Zelda as much to me, the same going for TP; the entire oil-paint like style is not of my liking.

@troyterry2445 The overworld is indeed superb. But, like all console Zelda games past OoT, there was a severe shortage of dungeons. :( I mean 4?!! Really? 5 if you count Ganon's tower?
Also, the fight system was a huge improvement and there were several creative and fun items.
If they had done the graphics (which i like, personally) the way everyone had wanted from the beginning... Then it would have been considered the best Zelda game in history. Perhaps.

But, the Windwaker game us a whole new link, and a new series of handheld Zelda games that just wouldn't be the same without "Toon Link". That, and the Wind Waker was a pretty kick ass game. =]
Windwaker's cel-shading was a really cool effect that made it easier for the design team to generate some of the things that they did in that world. If they went for the suedo-realistic style they were going for in OoT and MM, they a) probably wouldn't have been able to fit that large of a world in that disk, b) were able place the bird people and the human-ish people side by side without looking completely out of order, and c) cover up one of the darker storylines in the franchise
Two more things, they probably wouldn't have been able to generate the bird people in very much detail.. The feathers alone would take up a lot of space.. Their city would have like three people..
Also, you have to admit, besides Majora's Mask, Windwaker depicts probably the darkest world in the franchise yet story-wise..

If you guys played all the way through windwaker, got all the little things to max out your file and realized how awesome and not linear the game play was with the whole sailing the ocean thing is, you would love it. At first I thought it was gay but I played through it and got everything when I was about 14 I would say and I loved every damn bit of it. By no means a disgrace to the series.

@wolf1010 The thing with Wind Waker is that it was made during a period where Nintendo really was phoning it in and it shows. I liked it, but it was short, much shorter than Ocarina of Time even though the Gamecube had the ability to make a longer game, and there were those long sailing periods and the Triforce fishing quest that just bored me. You enjoy it because you go whole hog and do absolutely everything with it. Most people don't, and thus most people aren't seeing the satisfaction in it.

I have no idea why, but no matter how many times I tried I absolutely could not get a descent picture of him. I eventually gave up & quit playing. @lowhigh000 This was probably a prerendered animation that used the same graphics that the GC did, so everything was recorded earlier, in Video Games the game can't predict what the next move you make will be, when it is recorded though, it can just play out.

I'm sure this must be the sequel of Majora's Mask. Because when Link is returned back in time, Ganondorf is still there. And after he defeated Majora, he might brought back the shield he got from Termina and pulled the Master Sword and defeat Ganondorf like in this video.

the thing is that tech demo is what majora's mask sequel would have been and the link in it IS the hero of time who grew up naturally. they scrapped that legend to make a new legend with a new link. so you can'T really compare windwaker with this demo as they're not the same.

@thorn96 Its the Hylian shield and its been in pretty much all the zelda games through the series since it was introduced in a link to the past I think. There have been slight changes but its pretty much the same shield.

My only complain is.... Why did they not use this type of graphics when they released OOT for the gamecube along with Master Quest? Instead they use the original port.... That would be fine if... WE DIDN'T HAVE A COLLECTORS EDITION.... Yes the 3DS remake looks good... But OOT deserves better. It deserves a full console HD remake.

I kind of understand why so many people were angry when they found out the next Zelda game for the GameCube was going to look like that, after they already got a GameCube demo shown of a more serious and realistic Link. But Wind Waker was a great game though, and I think Twilight Princess was what Shigeru Miyamoto put out to happy the fans again, and now OoT 3D is coming out which is the more serious Link, and Skyward Sword is like a combination of both serious and not as serious! :D

The graphics in this demo look so good to me. They should've released this, as it's arguably what most people would've wanted; the graphics and style look just like that of OoT and MM, except with the graphical capacities the GameCube has. And really, I love Wind Waker, but I would have preferred something like this. The graphics just don't fit something like Zelda as much to me, the same going for TP; the entire oil-paint like style is not of my liking.

@troyterry2445 The overworld is indeed superb. But, like all console Zelda games past OoT, there was a severe shortage of dungeons. :( I mean 4?!! Really? 5 if you count Ganon's tower?
Also, the fight system was a huge improvement and there were several creative and fun items.
If they had done the graphics (which i like, personally) the way everyone had wanted from the beginning... Then it would have been considered the best Zelda game in history. Perhaps.

But, the Windwaker game us a whole new link, and a new series of handheld Zelda games that just wouldn't be the same without "Toon Link". That, and the Wind Waker was a pretty kick ass game. =]

Windwaker's cel-shading was a really cool effect that made it easier for the design team to generate some of the things that they did in that world. If they went for the suedo-realistic style they were going for in OoT and MM, they a) probably wouldn't have been able to fit that large of a world in that disk, b) were able place the bird people and the human-ish people side by side without looking completely out of order, and c) cover up one of the darker storylines in the franchise

Two more things, they probably wouldn't have been able to generate the bird people in very much detail.. The feathers alone would take up a lot of space.. Their city would have like three people..
Also, you have to admit, besides Majora's Mask, Windwaker depicts probably the darkest world in the franchise yet story-wise..

If you guys played all the way through windwaker, got all the little things to max out your file and realized how awesome and not linear the game play was with the whole sailing the ocean thing is, you would love it. At first I thought it was gay but I played through it and got everything when I was about 14 I would say and I loved every damn bit of it. By no means a disgrace to the series.

@wolf1010 The thing with Wind Waker is that it was made during a period where Nintendo really was phoning it in and it shows. I liked it, but it was short, much shorter than Ocarina of Time even though the Gamecube had the ability to make a longer game, and there were those long sailing periods and the Triforce fishing quest that just bored me. You enjoy it because you go whole hog and do absolutely everything with it. Most people don't, and thus most people aren't seeing the satisfaction in it.

I have no idea why, but no matter how many times I tried I absolutely could not get a descent picture of him. I eventually gave up & quit playing. Then my memory card got corrupted, I feel like the dude from Earnest Hemingway's "The Old Man & the Sea"

@lowhigh000 This was probably a prerendered animation that used the same graphics that the GC did, so everything was recorded earlier, in Video Games the game can't predict what the next move you make will be, when it is recorded though, it can just play out.
