@npdrumming I can't speak for him, but I know, for me, it sets up a different feel to a fill. I prefer it because it keeps all momentum in the center of my body rather than moving from left to right. Check out some of Travis Orbin's videos about his explanation for this setup. Good stuff.
You might be the next YouTube hit if you do some covers possibly suggested by the video tags (Animals As Leaders, Periphery, August Burns Red). Great video!
I did a cover of this a while back, but I took it down cuz it wouldn't upload in HD and squished the video. I was thinking about redoing it, since I lost the original copy, and wanted to keep it up. Good job, though, yo.
@StayStrapped58 no yea i have two toms as well but drummers now a days setting up their kits this way is for a reason, usually to build up leading with their left hand more. thats why i find this redundant if hes still leading the whole time with his right ya know?
Drummers do it for a number of reasons. Sometimes it's for the convenience in movement while playing certain pieces. In other cases, the reason is positional with regard to cymbals. There's actually a lot of possibilities/reasons why drummers use this set-up. Hopefully this guy responds to you. I'm always curious to see what drummers are working on and why in case I can apply it to what I'm doing at the time.
whats the purpose of moving toms and cymbals to your left if your not leading with your left? kinda redundant seeing thats why drummers started moving stuff that way
Hey man where did you get this video/mixing done?

@babyburrr I think it's more of an homage to Travis Orbin, than to lead with the left.
