  • 4:09 The Godfather reference (Speak Softly Love)

  • Frank Wolf the saxophone player is AMAZING ! he steals the whole song from Bireli, his tone and solo is extremely melodic and virtuoso !

  • DOWNTOWN

  • idiot

  • he's got a point. hahahaha

  • Super, je suis fan.

Dans un autre genre, mais à découvrir, car multitalent exceptionnel: Thom Wei.

Cherchez-le sur Youtube. Vaut le détour.

  • I love the start when he plays Downtown! Is there a video of that?

  • G major

  • Wonderful interpretation of Stevie's song. It put a big smile on my face -- truly unique stuff. Thanks for the great upload!

Feel free to drop by my blog (for link see my profile) for lots of classic swing and jazz tunes.

    THX! and See you 'round,

    Bruno "Laidback" Leicht

  • Those guys who think Frank's some kind of Kenny G need to check out "Cherokee" from the same tour. It's on "Bireli LaGrene in Paris." I don't know if there's a post, if but somebody should post it. He sounds like Charlie Parker. If he's good enough to play with BLG -- he's good.

  • For real, i can tell hes damn good just by the way he knew what key the songs in right from the first note he plays

  • that's not hard... Or it's based on perfect pitch, which is not an indicator for skill, or it's just because he remembered the key of the last song and did some basic interval-thinking.

    Still he's good...

  • Yea your right i guess its not "hard" in a sense but of course that IS a skill. Whether your born with perfect pitch or not, thats true musicianship

  • renaissongsman. I'm afraid it's you who are mistaken about the sax. It absolutely is not a Tenor. Sorry.

  • OK, in this vid he's holding a tenor from the last tune, and switches to sop. The one I'm referring to is /watch?v=6qHja9i9C4Y; he does it on tenor there (an excerpt from French TV, best I can tell).

How did I get confused? I d'ld the vid on a UNIX system w/o Flash, and apparently hit this page instead of the other when doing the Utube search for Bireli and the song title. So, I'll apologize for the error and criticism. Go listen to the other, though; it's better sound quality.

  • ...and better sax playing IMHO, from the same player, on tenor.

  • OK, gents. The sax is a tenor saxophone, not a soprano (and that may be worth noting in terms of your opines, if you dunno what instrument it is, how can you judge?) The chap playing it deserves a lot of credit for technique, taste and great range ... although I'd rather hear a little less air in the tone, maybe that's the issue? As to whether he's as good as Bireli, I dunno; but he's good enough that Bireli walks on stage with him regularly---perhaps we should shut up about it? Nicely done.

  • smooth jazz?? your only saying that because its a soprano...he's playing bop lines but making it pretty.

this shit never gets old. truly inspiring

  • 4:11

this part is so tight. lol this is very good stuff

  • If you like Bireli and company, you may also like Scotty Anderson...an unsung guitar wizard..with blistering technique...I would like to hear him and Bireli trade licks..

  • are you kidding? if you think this is crap i would love to know what you actually like listening to

  • Bireli Lagrene when he's not torturing a guitar

    watch?v=eg3eo8x_9rw&feature=inbox

  • yes those are totally godfather quotes and very well used.

  • Bireli est le meilleur en chorus sur des standards de ce type, je l'ai vu il y a deux jour à Monaco, il a joué "the way you are" de Billy Joel, magic !

  • haha yea i hear the godfather quotes and i like them to be honest

  • cheaaaaaaaa

  • awesome musicians!!!

  • Does anyone else keep hearing quotes from the Godfather theme in his playing, like at around 4:10? And around 00:25 in the clip entitled "Bireli Lagrene - solo jazz guitar"

  • It's there, alright!

  • That's just great!

  • Fantastic! Bireli is such a wonderful player.

  • I'm impressed.

  • Ah, one of my favorite Bireli covers... Not as good as the duo with Slyvan Luc, but still very nice.

  • i agree, their duet version never ceases to give me chills...

  • better then i thought it would be

  • That was a really tasteful rendition actually. I thought it wasn't gonna work but all credit to frank, the soprano sounded gorgeous and the song just...really worked

  • beautiful!

  • Great!
