  • Thank you Jesus from 3:10 to 3:29

  • @SaharaDiva What does that mean?

  • My pain is only on the lower back area (L4 and L5), not in the vertebrae but a little bit to the left.

When I stand up I get a sense of relief but when I sit down for a long time, It'll start to hurt to the point I just need to stand up again.

Will any of your exercises help me heal at all?

  • @xxAlesanxx Is the pain beside your tailbone? Pain with sitting, but relief with standing is usually SI pain...we have a video for that on our youtube channel: maddenptofficial

  • what happens if you twist or pop your lower back? Im not sure if I even have a herniated disc but it sure seems like it. I can relieve the pain by popping my lower back but the pain returns 1 minute later.

  • @thericate How do you pop it...twist? Don't worry, it's not the disc you hear popping...Do you have pain just in your back or down your leg?

  • @maddenptofficial I only have pain in my lower back and on the right side. It only hurts when I twist my torso to the right.

  • @thericate is the spot beside your tail bone or up higher on the spine?

  • @maddenptofficial its higher up on the spine

  • @thericate Could be disc...is it as high as your ribs?

  • @maddenptofficial no , its a bit lower .

  • @thericate Hmmm...have you seen anyone yet? PT, chiro, or doctor?

  • I've been doin Ur xersices all the pain went to my right side butt down to my leg...what should i do I bothers me a lot

  • @potchi27 Which exercises did you do? We have 5 different lower back pain or sciatica videos...depending on what the problem is.

  • Every 30 minutes! For 4 hours! Then a break for an hour! Guess around the clock I'm doing them! Long walk in the mornings! & afternoons! as well! Takes me about 20 minutes 2 warm up in the mornings! That's when it hurts a bit! I hate it with a passion!

  • How many times a day! I'm 3rd time lucky with this,in 10 years! First time was really bad, because i didn't know my disc was pro-lapsing! I was bent right over! Had 4 pillows stuffed under my tummy! 20 minutes on the floor! Move around for 20 min's! Back on the floor! Every 2 or 3 days! 1 pillow taken away! until i was straight! Then i started these exercises! I did them round the clock! Had get back to work! Im doing them now! So how many times a day? I don't need to sleep for a wile!!

  • @Ricardo20609 How many are you doing now? Most people do well with 3 times/day...although we've had people do it every hour...

  • I just got diagnose last month they did the shots it felt better but I still have sciatica but my back is better so imma do the exercises it might help

  • @potchi27 Best wishes on a speedy recovery!

  • @maddenptofficial thank you for you videos it helps me alot ive been doin it at home just with my gf to help me...i feel a lot better now...thank you so much!!..and i got L3 L4 L4 L5....

  • @potchi27 Welcome!

  • I injured my back in the gym about 6 months ago, felt a sharp pain running down my buttocks, leg and into my calf.I've developed a limp as a result. I've been receiving physiotherapy, been to a chiropractor as well as my family doctor. I'm currently seeing an orthopedic surgeon who suggests an MRI scan. I'm claustrophobic, does it make sense having the scan, i'm extremely anxious and scared, will they be able to cure my limp after the scan or should i just continue with Physio. Help, please.

  • @beachcomber4evah hey man, i also injured my lower back in the gym about a year ago.. ive been to the doctors a few times but she says dont do any exercises that put strain on my back and to take ibuprofen for a month, i did this and it didnt go.. she is getting me physiotherapy, i dont think it will work because i think i have a herniated diisc and i think its for life. sucks aswell because im only 19, i havnt got a limp but do have tingleing sensation in my left foot alot.

  • @RICHYrichMEOW Where did you get the idea that it will be for life?

  • @maddenptofficial i thought that it was for life unless u get an opertation and even then you will need further operations in the future, i dont know what to do because i love weightlifting and dont want to stop if its not going to heal, but if i knew it would and i needed to stop then i would but is cardio and lightweight high reps still going to affect it so i have to stop completely? i stopped for like a month a while ago and it seemed to get worse??

  • @RICHYrichMEOW For most, not for life. We have patients who have bulging discs/herniated discs on MRI, come for treatment and become symptom free. Then have a second injury years later, followed by MRI, showing healing at the previous level and no herniated disc. Most surgeons and physicians agree, as it is in the research.

Usually no reason keeping you from healing...

  • @maddenptofficial ok thanks, so would you say that cardio and lightweight high reps on exercises will be ok for me to do and still let my back heal or should i completely stop all exercises?

  • @RICHYrichMEOW Can't say that...research says for most to keep moving...just depends on your specific situation/injury.

  • @maddenptofficial I honestly believe that most of you guys are crooks and charlatans who just prey on people's pain and suffering. I've been to 4 general practitioners, physiotherapists, chiropractors am currently seeing an orthopedic surgeon. Had xrays, DVT ultrasound, MRI and i'm still in pain. If you don't know what's the problem why keep patients coming back just milking them of their hard earned money. Have a heart.

  • @beachcomber4evah Hmmm...OK, is that all practitioners or just the ones you are dealing with? PTs here don't do Xrays, ultrasound, MRIs...lowest cost in the country...and we show before and after videos with case studies...

You sound frustrated...it may be more helpful to tell the people you are working with rather than posting it on the board of a free PT video...right?

  • @maddenptofficial You think? I'm venting because i am frustrated, most of that time and money was spent with a physiotherapist.

  • @beachcomber4evah I do think. I'm asking you if you think you are venting in the best place? I'd be talking with the people I was paying if I were you...

  • @RICHYrichMEOW just did an MRI today, will get the results on wednesday, Hope my doctor has good news, cause i'm seriously depressed since i can't train.

  • @beachcomber4evah thats good, hope its good new man, i know how it feels not being able to train.. it sucks :)

  • Thank you!

  • I have a herniated l5 disc. It's been an ongoing problem for me for about 13 years now.About a week ago,I woke up with an unbelievable pain in my low back and buttocks. The pain goes into my left hip and down my left leg.

I've had these same symptoms for many years now. However,I've not felt it with this intensity of pain since back when I first injured it.I dont want surgery for this.I dont want to become dependent on meds. But I guess i'm going to have to do something. This pain so unbearable.

  • @Geardoodle What else have you tried?

  • @maddenptofficial Well, back in 1999 when I first had this injury,I had no insurance and my money was limited. Therefore, physical therapy was too expensive.I just started walking (very slowly) for exersize.Over time the pain diminshed enough that it didn't totally dominate my life.I just avoid heavy lifting or excessive bending.

I just ordered an inversion table.I'm going to see how that goes.I want to see a chiropractor, but I'm just not sure how safe those adjustments are..???

  • @Geardoodle There are many studies which show short term benefit to adjustments or manipulations if your symptoms do not go below your knee. There are no studies showing benefits of years of adjustments.

The leading clinics (physical therapy or chiropractic) do both: hands-on adjustments followed by exercise.

I am interested to see how you do with the inversion table. Traction seems like it should work for you from what I am reading. Good luck!

  • Thanks! I have a PT friend, and I haven't seen one in a long while, so it might behoove me to do so. I do play guitar a lot, but that was never much affected by the injury. I was a habitual stomach sleeper up until the injury, but now I sleep on my side (I toss and turn but typically sleep on my left side), and I use a contoured memory foam pillow. The radiculopathy was on my left side. My arms are typically underneath my pillow behind my head when sleeping.

  • What about a cervical herniated disc?

  • @Rockland32 Do you mean can you heal a cervical herniated disc? Yes. Similar structure and tissue in the cervical area as the lumbar area. It is important to realize that a large number of people without pain have C5C6 or L4L5 disc herniations, yet have not pain. At the same time, a person can have a herniated disc, heal that area, then have a later MRI which shows the disc is not longer herniated....

    Good question.

  • @maddenptofficial

Thanks. I was diganosed (via MRI) with a C6/C7 herniation back in 2008. It took a year + of rest, cervical traction, medicine, exercises and patience, but I am now (almost) back to normal. What sorts of things can someone in my situation do to ensure continued healing? I feel almost better other than occasional stress-induced 'stiff necks' that I never had before.

  • @Rockland32 Interesting point on C6/C7 herniations...recent research suggests a lower problem on the spine causing the stress up higher, unless the herniation is a result of a trauma, ie, a car accident. What this means is that a problem in the middle of the back can prevent a herniation from healing. With regards to your question, I would have a good hands-on PT (you can search AAOMPT for one in your area) assess your thoracic spine and neck.

  • @maddenptofficial Thanks again for the insight. It wasn't trauma-induced. I just woke up one morning with a stiff neck, and over time it developed into radiculopathy. I didn't know what it was until it was too late. I don't have any pain, but sometimes stress gives me what I would call "psychosomatic" aches in my neck and arm that go away after a short time. I just would like to know what things I could do to ensure continued health and healing!

  • @Rockland32 Thanks for the clear descriptions...I think I have it. See a good hands-on PT (one who can provide hands-on treatment) to make sure you do not have a mid back problem. Otherwise, keep up the good work!

  • @Rockland32 Oh...and you play guitar much? Which side was your radiculopathy on and are you a side sleeper? If so, what position is your arm in when sleeping?

  • @Rockland32 If there is a problem preventing you from being completely pain free, they should be able to find it and help you solve it...quickly.

  • I have all what you are pointing out. (It was caused by injuries sustained by fainting and rolling down the stairs). The only test that was useful to diagnose me was an MRI. I will try your exercises to alleviate my pain. I also feel like a mass pressuring internally, It is worse when I sit down and the right side of my lower to upper back, feels like being anesthetise. Are the mass like symptom that of Lumbar herniations too?

    Thank you for your teaching.

  • @lsophial Mass like feeling inside your pelvis or abdomen?

  • Thank you for the video. Bulged disk at L5 S1 annular tear with bulbous of pulpous at L5 L4 and very bad SI dysfunction. Work related injury. PT and chiropractic. Work Comp wants me to do Work Harding, I did for one week with a lot of pain could not continue. Did a functionality test which cause a lot of pain. going on for 6 months. Work comp will not authorize shots just want Work Harding, I feel that that will cause more problems, any ideas.

  • @2008superduke In 6 months what changes? What does present treatment in chiropractic and PT consist of?

  • @maddenptofficial At the beginning I had 5 weeks of PT, 3 months after injury I had 3 weeks of chiro. I then did 1 week of work hardening which set my back off requiring me to go back to ER. I have been to the ER 3 time in the past 6 months for back pain. Chiro did ice, tens and traction adjustments. PT did core building and stretching.

SI is hyper-mobile that flares up and in-between this the disks bulged gives me pain on a regular bases. I think both together are hindering a final repair.

  • @2008superduke What type of traction adjustments? Drop table?

  • @maddenptofficial Yes, with manual pressure

  • @2008superduke Mmmm...ask your chiro or PT to perform a Reverse Erhard...most researched manual therapy technique and proven to be one of the most effective for back pain across the board.

  • Thank you for this.

  • @MuNN9294 You are welcome.

  • I had an MRI for thoracic pain but no disc problems showed up. Everything was fine. Can disc herniations occur in the thoracic region? I have a mild ache in that area with no radiating pain

  • @gnortonshores Thoracic herniations are rare compared to rib problems, which do not show up on X-ray or MRI.

Find a good PT in your area who is known for hands-on PT and can treat rib problems.

  • It is possible to heal with exercises and some food supplements. However, the people holding the scalpel blades will tell otherwise. To them, it is dollars and they would not easily let you go. Beware , as there are several approaches in this world for a natural cure.

  • @SOMASUNDRAM100

The core of the problem is proper structural Alignment , hardly anyone ever addresses this vital issue in Healing . EVERYTHING you are in contact with in your Physical enviorment, example Your car seat , chairs at work and home, mattress, pillow, Shoes , Orthotics etc. Play a Huge Role

The goal should always be proper structural Anatomical Alignment from head to toe, PT alone isnt enough !

  • @AnatomicalALIGNMENT Doesn't good PT address proper alignment?

  • @maddenptofficial

The PTs ive been examined by here in Northeast PA never mentioned or addressed Alignment in any way. In fact ive actually a few of them tell me that in their Opinion, my Lumbar MRI shows Nothing that relates to my pain symptoms , and Neither does my Past work history , which i found incredibly bizarre and astounding.

The area where i live is Horrible for Medical Care , Atrocious and abysmal

  • @AnatomicalALIGNMENT PS...We have had people drive from Hazleton, Scranton, Carbondale and Kingston for PT here in Harrisburg...all from your neck of NEPA. If interested in traveling to Central PA (our closest office is less than 2 hours from Wilkes-Barre), I can get you set up with one of our PTs. I have one guy in mind who is top notch and completed his doctorate with leading researchers of spine pain at Pitt. He wrote a 2 volume set of lumbar treatment for our other PTs.

  • @maddenptofficial

Thank you i very much appreciate your time and Attention on this. I believe you when you say you have people from my area as Clients and patients, im honestly Not aware of anyone getting any better with Structural injuries or abnormalities here in Northeast PA, so sounds like im not the only one here in Northeast PA who noticed how bad the care is and lack of skill .

  • @maddenptofficial what i meant below is im Not aware of anyone with structural based pain getting Better when treated by a Dr. or PT in Northeast PA.

Obviously i fully realize to give Me a full assessment , someone would have to examine me in Person of course, and id like to have that happen from the Person you just Mentioned and reccomended

  • @maddenptofficial

But im very curious , just based on everything ive said here so far , whats your initial reaction and feeling on my situation ?

In all of your experience have you ever heard of a case like Mine ? and how difficult do you think my situation is to Remedy and turn around, as compared to most of the people you treat ?

Once more thank you very much for your kindness and attention.

  • @maddenptofficial

Lastly, How rare and Unique is my Lumbar MRI based on the cases you treat ?

" Straightening of the Lumbar Lordosis, shallow disc bulge at L4 L5 , Loss of water content at L5 S1 , which also shows a shallow broad based Bilateral protrusion in contact with the Dural Sac and an encroachment into the Neural Foramina , No central canal stenosis found, No Other abnormalities present '

  • @AnatomicalALIGNMENT L4L5 disc changes...in 80% of people who are not in pain! Your MRI findings are pretty normal.

The PT is Michael Gilbert, DPT. Phone is 717-901-9487 to schedule.

  • @maddenptofficial

    Thanks for the Number,

But i am in Pain, and its the L5 S1 which is Mainly causing the Pain, Not the L4 L5

  • @AnatomicalALIGNMENT Similar treatment, as the levels are next to each other. L5S1 usually involves more pelvis than L4L5 above.

How do you know L5S1 is causing the pain? From the MRI?

  • @maddenptofficial

yes i believe the MRI conclusively demonstrates that its the specific cause of my pain when it states

" L5 S1 has a loss of water content, and shows a shallow broad based bilateral Protrusion IN CONTACT with the dural sac and an encroachment INTO the neural foramina '

Bingo , seems that would directly correlate to what my symptoms are , logically speaking. Do you agree ?

  • @AnatomicalALIGNMENT Impossible to say from a static MRI, only...just a piece of the puzzle, right?

  • @maddenptofficial

i understand what you're saying as being 100 percent conclusive of course , but Logically its very difficult to Objectively discount it.

For instance The MRI says the L5 S1 disc bulge is Bilateral and ' Broad Based ' contacting the dural sac and directly into the Neural foramina space . My Pain is both Legs, so the bilateral explains that , and broad based Protrusion would surely explain ,,,,,,,, cont

  • @maddenptofficial

ive actually had Physical Therapists in my area of PA tell me that Shoes, car seat, chairs, Mattress i use and pillows are all totally irrelevant in getting better and out of pain.

Interestingly these SAME various pt also said that my MRI findings were also ' irrelevant ' . i now realize i was consulting People who were intellectually naive clueless children on the science of Anatomy

  • @AnatomicalALIGNMENT Agreed. Does seem relevant and an important piece of what you have going on. Best wishes on a speedy recovery.

  • @maddenptofficial

thank you, i appreciate the chance to talk about this and get ur honest opinion, as i compare my Options i will surely keep the name and # you gave me of that PT if i decide to go that route

  • @AnatomicalALIGNMENT I, personally, have seen similar MRI's where the issue is a flexed or extended sacrum, an ilial outflare, a rotated innominate or other pelvic issue.

  • @maddenptofficial ' Broad Based Protrusion ' would be a huge clue as to why the Pain in both legs is Evenly distributed accross the entire leg up and down side to side back and front. In Other words not touching one side or the side of the nerves, broad based meaning touching EVERYTHING in that area evenly , and my Pain just happens to be totally evenly dispersed throughout the entire leg

  • @maddenptofficial

Since 1996 ive talked to Thousands of people around the world who had the standard case of Sciatica . And interestingly enough None of them who shared their lumbar MRI findings with me had a " bilateral broad based protrusion " which wouldnt give the classical Sciatica symptoms of 1 leg hurting more than the Other, pain shooting and being sharp etc

obviously i have ZERO in common with Sciatica

  • @AnatomicalALIGNMENT Tough to say either way...

  • @maddenptofficial

Also dont forget the Timing of all this, as being a huge critical part of this , i go to bed after a day of heavy lifting and NO Pain, yet wake up the next morning and there is pain .

Obviously that disc had to have swelled up and inflammed over night . I cant fathom any Other rational logical conclusion given all the known facts combined with the MRI, it all makes sense to me completely

  • @maddenptofficial

Having been examined by so many different Drs , Therapists, and talking to so many different people around the world with Back and Leg pain , given the overwhelming Logic and Rationale of what i stated just previously.

Its almost inconceivable to believe that MRI doesnt show the specific cause. i believe its the missing Link that everyone missed, and it was right in front of their faces the entire time

  • @maddenptofficial

Through Multiple consultations and examinations with a multitude of Different Drs and Therapists of many different philosophies where i live , After many years in pain i realize one fact that is indisputable.

If im going to get better from this condition, it HAS to be by someone out of my area of Northeast PA . In the beginning way back in 1996, i was young, gullible ignorant and naive

  • @maddenptofficial competent Skilled experienced PT may well be what i need, which is why im here asking for your opinions, and i greatly appreciate this dialogue , thank you very much ! but ive realized that without the Proper Physical support AROUND the therapy, its not going to be anywhere near as speedy and effective for anyone regardless of the condition. Meaning Mattress, Pillows, shoes, Orthotics , Car seat etc

  • @maddenptofficial Example, The PTs ive been treated by here in Northeast PA Never even bothered to ask me What type of Mattress i was sleeping on, how old was it, is it worn out etc. ? They had zero interest in that topic and didnt care .

it wasnt until many years later i began through education and experience to realize some of this and how Horrendously incompetent the Care is in my area of PA

  • Not all herniated disks can be successfully treated via this method. My disk jel didn't just bulge out toward the nerve it also gravitated downward making it nearly impossible for the jel to be brought back with exercise. I needed surgery. My doctor said there would have been a 5% success rated with exercise.

  • @mythicalhell There are many factors which go into a disc healing: overall health, diet, daily habits (sleeping, work, etc), spiritual health, mental health, obesity, other problems (diabetes).

So your surgeon said there is a chance exercise could help? What about hands on manual therapy?

  • @maddenptofficial

i tried the DRX 9000 machine and it was a total waste of money , did Nothing !

  • @mythicalhell Find a therapist: Richard Jackson in the Baltimore/DC area. Good research and case studies of complete ruptures healing.

PS - Good job continuing to look for solutions and doing your research before blindly accepting MRI results and getting surgery...which you may in fact need.

  • @maddenptofficial

Have you ever researched on here the Organic raw vegan diet ?

  • @AnatomicalALIGNMENT I've researched Forks Over Knives, Dr. Fuhrman, The China Study, etc. And read "I Want to Live"...is that what you mean?

  • @maddenptofficial

Yes, you are correct, Dr. Fuhrman and the China study are good examples to start. But much more detailed ones are the following channels on Here , which get into much deeper principles and Philosophy and experiences , its incredible info

Life Regenerator, Durian Riders, Running Raw, The Fruitarian , Be Your Potential , Victoria Boutenko , Raw Fit Chris

  • @maddenptofficial

As an example, the channel THE FRUITARIAN is run by Mike Arnstein in New York.

He Chronicles on his vids how eating an Organic Raw Vegan diet with High Fruit has enabled him at 35 yrs old to be able to Run 100 mile mega endurance super Marathons such as the Leadville 100 in CO , and 2 days later he ran the NJ state 26 mile Marathon and won it 1st place and he wasnt even tired !

  • @maddenptofficial

on the channel LIFE REGENERATOR, he blogs by video how he at 37 rode his bicycle last summer through 100 degree heat and high humidity from Los Angeles to Ny eating Nothing but Raw Fruits , Vegetables , Nuts and seeds , all vegan, and He was able to do so at a Rocket fast pace with very little fatigue and no injuries !

amazing info that most people have no idea about

  • @maddenptofficial

last one ill share, the channel RUNNING RAW has a video titled ' Protein Myth ' where 41 yr old elite Athlete Tim Van Orden describes how he is able to beat 20 yr olds competing in what are called Tower Races, where they race up the tallest bldgs in America such as the Empire State Bldg in Ny .

Tim does all this on a Raw Organic vegan diet and is considered one of the Top level Athletes in usa

  • @maddenptofficial

so to sum all this up,

ive found the Truth on Diet on how it relates to Human Health and Physiology, which is actually quite simple and easy to Understand and figure out.

so Naturally im now trying to get well Structurally , and get the Truth on whats the most effective fastest way to get rid of my Pain and Heal up on an Anatomical level and put the pieces back together , sorta speak
