The great Brazilian pianist Manfredo Fest is second from the left. This album was a commercial venture by the group, but it gave Manfredo an entry to other experiences.
@PhillFest Hello........My husband adores your fathers talent......He lives in L.A now ,but he started listening your fathers playing, in Oaxaca Mexico in the 70 's.......He went!!!! CRAZY!!!!! when found Bossario here in You Tube.....A pleasure to write to you....
This group sounds a lot like Sergio Mendes and Brasil 66, but with a more intense bossa nova mix. A much different take on an old standard covered x-number of times since the release of "Finian's Rainbow."
Good ear! It was Sergio Mendes who produced this group and signed them to Blue Thumb records under his Serrich Productions company. Later, Sergio married the woman you see on the album cover and they remain married to this day. Her name is Grachina Leporace, she is from Brazil, and has a beautiful voice. This group recorded 2 LPs and both are outstanding.
Ha! I had the same thought: this sounds like Sergio Mendes. I hope I don't offend, but I like Lani Hall better. And wasn't she married to him when she was his singer...? I guess I should look at your channel. I have all the old stuff from Sergio/66 since I was 12 years old. Lani is one of the biggest influences on me (maybe because I was so young when I first heard her.) This "new" girl kind of gets lost in the mix.. I hope you don't mind my preference. Thanks for posting this!
Nope, Lani was never married to Sergo Mendes. She was single for all of her years with Sergio. However, she quit Brazil 66 to get married to Herb Alpert (who owned A&M Records at the time Brazil 66's recording label). I heard that Sergio was not very happy with this because he lost a great singer and he knew it. Guess I like Grachina so much 'cause I met her backstage after a Brazil 77 concert in San Francisco. What a sweet girl she was and very pretty. Lani is nice also. At age 19 she was hot!
