I seriously cannot get enough of Alex's playing. He's one of my favorite guitarists for a number of reasons. He doesn't seem cocky, he's not a showboat, and he doesn't just shred as much as possible. When he does shred, it still sounds so beautiful instead of just pure wankage. Let's not forget about his pinky control, either.

I have yet to hear a certain thing about him I haven't liked... and I mostly listen to brutal death metal and grindcore. That's saying a lot coming from me.

he said no pedals, not no effects. i know that he has added reverb because the amp does not have reverb. there has to be some compression too. he's probably sporting a pretty good sized rack full of effects on this.

@GhettoDope7lc DUDE! Laney GH50L head! Get one!! I did, largely due to this guys vids on here. Sick amp, and cheap! Got mine mint condition used for 400 bones shipped to my door from evilbay. Thick and juicy and smooth, yet still incredibly bright with tons of bite and clarity. It's a crime that these are so cheap, but I'm not complainin! Great classic Marshall tones as well as more modern gain possibilities, takes pedals really well also. Go now and get one!

Nice ability:now lets hear his versatility outside the blues scale.These blues player's a lot of them have great phrasing and skill but they stay in the box too much as this guy does.I just checked out 5 different song's by him but none I would be able to tell you the name of in a day or be able to tell who it was.He sounds like a session player to me.

Davie I think you're hearing the reverb that the engineer added, and probably EQ and probably multiband compression on the whole mix, etc. - but I think what they are emphasizing with the "no pedals" annotation is that his sound comes mainly from his touch. He has just enough gain to make it sound "gain-y" and it sounds smooth b/c he plays smooth as ****! I.e. no comp, no Ge diodes in "compress-y" ODs...

No pedals is what we state. The reverb is added on the desk at mixdown to blend the guitar into the track.

@PaoloCastilloMusic There is compression happening in the amplifier. If there wasn't, there wouldn't be distortion as you hear it. The reason it sounds distorted is because the sine waves are larger than what can be handled by the tubes, so the "crest" is lopped off in various shapes depending on a number of other factors. Anyways, what you have is a rise in overall signal(the preamp tubes passing a larger signal to the next) and a volume reduction when a stage(4) meets its limit. Compression :)
