You're absolutely right with comparing it to the likes of X2; there's an air of Zero's theme in this.
Yuki did the themes for Wolverine, Psylocke, Magneto, Hulk, Shuma Gorath and Thanos as well as Continue, Game Over and the pre-ending track entitled "Return of the Heroes". Tatsuro Suzuki did the Staff Roll. Everything else is Takayuki's.
In my opinion, this sounds like an unused BGM from either Mega Man X2 or X3. I think it would great be a substitute for Overdrive Ostrich's stage BGM from MMX2.

Capcom just doesn't produce good music like they used to. Other than a few exceptions of new music, the only good Capcom music in modern games are mainly remixes of classic old themes. And even then not all the remixed old themes are that good - there are several in MvC3 where the original still sounds a lot better.
One of THE BEST STAGES EVER! This game was one the best of the '90s! I remember playing this game when I was 8. It felt like the X-Men cartoon with this board.

Honestly, i wish yuki had decided to use Flame Stag's theme for wolverine. This isn't bad, but whenever i hear the flame stag theme, i always picture wolverine in my head. I know she wouldn't really recycle an existing theme, but i'm saying had she used another song for flame stag and used the flame stag theme for wolverine. Also, not necessarily for this game, but some time in the past. At least this has a little flame stag in it considering it was composed by the same person.

I'm ashamed to say it, but I never really listened to his Stage Theme until today (maybe because I was focusing too much on beating him...or just plain winning as him). This theme is Badass! Perfect for James Howlett!
Good ears. This theme was composed by Yuki Iwai, who did all of Mega Man X2. This particular tracks sounds a lot like Zero's theme from that game from 0:22-0:28.

There musicians like Yuki Iwai are so incredibly talented. The best music I have ever heard are some of the songs from the japanese composers like this guy. Megaman X1-3 is some of them.

I think it may have been limitations of the hardware at the time. Now they can do it but back then maybe it was just to much data to have the music switch for over 50 characters. They sould have fixed this with the live version.
If you're talking about Wolvie's theme, then I don't think that this one was remixed for MVC1. He always seemed to get a new theme in every MvC fighting game.
Before Marvel vs Capcom 2 came to the PS3/360, I made sure to download every theme from these games. I downloaded the ones from Street Fighter Alpha 2 and 3 as well. It makes for a great custom soundtrack when playing the game.
This stage alone was awesome, the way it just crumbles away and moves with you fighting on it, culminating in the end with the victor claiming his victory atop a stone pillar as the loser is swept away. They just don't make 'em like they used to.
yeah capcom is fucking amazing when it comes to fighting games, seriously, who would have ever seen capcom and marvel going toe to toe with each other!? i never saw it coming, maybe akuma being in X-men children of atom was a sign. But really though it was a nice cross over like kingdom hearts.

@Berserkhater I happened to learn a lot from games that was applicable to the outside world. For one, it taught me about sore losers. Second, it taught me about people who like talking about them more than playing them... and third, it taught me about folks like you who CAN'T play them, and then go around accusing those who do of wasting their lives. @Berserkhater Tiers have never been a matter of fact. Anyone that's played in tournaments over a long period of time knows this. Just because they can TREND doesn't mean they don't change, and just because a group of elites have an opinion that's popular among themselves doesn't mean that Joe Schmo can't just walk in one day, beat all of their asses with a character they've never thought of in that way before and create a paradigm shift.

I think it may have been limitations of the hardware at the time. Now they can do it but back then maybe it was just to much data to have the music switch for over 50 characters. They sould have fixed this with the live version.

If you're talking about Wolvie's theme, then I don't think that this one was remixed for MVC1. He always seemed to get a new theme in every MvC fighting game.

Before Marvel vs Capcom 2 came to the PS3/360, I made sure to download every theme from these games. I downloaded the ones from Street Fighter Alpha 2 and 3 as well. It makes for a great custom soundtrack when playing the game.

Great theme just like his Children of the Atom theme it fits him perfectly. My favorite part is the beginning beat. Fighting games in the 90's had better music than fighting games today. INFINITE! WEAPON X! Wolverine Wins!
