What do you mean lower the chance? The chance is EXTREMELY small, if it even exists. It is well worth the risk, to advance science. IMO science is more important and more of a necessity than driving. Walk.
@Mestizaprincess Everything we do is a MIGHT, we all drive cars, but we MIGHT die. Finger prints have a chance to be the same in 1/10 billion, yet every case relies on fingerprints to put criminals away. The chance of the world ending from the LHC is MUCH less than 1/10 billion. If the LHC gets kicked off because of that, then no body should be using fingerprints, driving, or even living for that matter.
@Pat127133 don't you agree though if there is even a chance at all the entire galaxy could be rendered extinct, that its just not worth the risk until we have learned more about the most destructive force known to exist. if you drive a car theres a chance you could die, you take that chance but a worst case scenario you are the only one dead but the whole galaxy doesn't disappear because you died if they are wrong at cern the whole galaxy becomes extinct our knowledge of BH are theroy only
A universe will never be created by the LHC. The worst that it could create is worm holes and or black holes, which would be microscopic and evaporate so fast that they couldn't possibly expand. They wouldn't even have anything to suck up in their perimeter, seeing that they are in a vaccuum. They are simulating what the universe was like after the big bang, and they won't reach the temperatures by far. And also, the universe has obviously gone through that stage, and did not destroy itself.
@Pat127133 thats what you say however remember that everything we know about a black hole is theory not fact including hawking radiation theory that they will evaporate also its true that its just a theory that black holes will be able to be created at all not fact that they will. i just think that more knowledge and testing and advancement needs to be made in science before we go playing with a loaded gun that if wrong in anyway will mean the destruction of everything in and around our galaxy
The machines been active since August. You just happen to get caught up in the hype of some jackass, that didn't know what was going on and started freaking out! 'Causing mass panic! We'll be fine. Watch out fer Sasquatch, he's a bigger threat!

A much smaller machine?
You mean if they built the one they originally wanted in Texas it would have been bigger?
So is the Hadron just the beginning?
Thats just fucking great, we havent even had the Hadron running at 1/6th its capacity.
How much energy does he think it takes to create and destroy a universe? Perhaps that is all it takes.

"The theory of everything."
That's right, he said THEORY!
So, when someone theorizes that the LHC could develop a black hole... It turns everything into a 50/50 shot in the dark?
Those are some horrible odds.
