  • Cats with asthma?

Surely this is an epigenetic (environmental) or dietary issue?

  • @matthk Likely environmental and not dietary, however obviously better food supports a better immune system. Highly genetic as well. Charlie was eating top quality expensive food when his asthma really flared up, but he was 14 then. His asthma originally began when he was a healthy kitten.

  • What a well behaved cat!! My kitty is on her 1st week on inhaled steroids and is totally accepting of the Aerokat!! :)

  • My cat also has asthma. She is a lot smaller than your cat, and I have been using the larger mask. How do I know if it fits correctly? Her face is so small that the large mask almost covers her eyes, but the small mask still leaves small gaps on each side of her nose.

  • @Buffheart did you get the Aerokat with the flap so you can count breaths? As long as the flap is moving then you are fine. You could always use the smaller mask and pinch in the sides to see if that helped.

  • @gofetchgifts

Yeah it has the flap. It just looks like neither mask fits her comfortably.

  • My Baby just got dx with feline asthma, needs to take some oral prednisone (has a collapsed lung lobe, gotta bring down in=) for a while and then start with the Aerokat. Baby is a sweet-tempered cat but HATES to be held or held down. This does not look promising.,, he will draw blood.

  • @kasparcat I thought Charlie would draw blood too. He is not a very sweet or loving cat, and just look at him! I am serious, everyone thinks what you are thinking in the beginning and are shocked. Just introduce slowly. I introduced it with treats over a week's time. Some cats are wrapped in a towel, too. For more on that check out the FritzTheBrave website.

  • Thank you for posting this! My cat had to be rushed to the ER vet yesterday and was diagnosed with asthma. As he has an underlying heart issue, they don't want to do prolonged steroids as this could send a cat into congestive heart failure, so I'm thinking about the inhaler like the one you're using. Unfortunately, I don't think my Linus would be nearly as good about getting it, lol but we shall see!

  • thats weird...

  • kaygee, yes some people do use a nebulizer and I've heard it can work just fine, especially for cats who simply cannot get used to the mask. I use the human Flovent 220. It's very safe.

  • my cat has asthma and ive been using a human nebulizer for him and he seems to be getting better but can i use a human inhaler i have the same flovent system thank you :)

  • He so cute! My cat was diagnosed with asthma today but so far he has only gotten one steroid injection. I hope it doesn't get to the point where he needs an inhaler but if he does I'll eagerly help the little guy, as you are doing. :)

  • @idontknowit84 - steroid injections aren't as safe as the inhaler is. Maybe you'll consider the inhaler option!

  • @gofetchgifts Thank you for the info! He gave him the injection just to see how he will respond- as part of the diagnosis. process... but he's fairly certain it is asthma, and I am too after watching these videos. But if this turns out to be an ongoing problem I will talk to my vet about the inhaler. I love my cat, so I definitely don't want him being on steroids injections all of the time. I hope he's with me for a LONG time. Thanks :)

  • aww wish my cat was this well behaved!

  • @haizydaze89 My cat is this well behaved but she doesnt want to stay in one spot, she has to explore.

  • VERY, VERY well done! :)

  • Good kitty!!!!
