That's sort of the point. Once in the minds of your people your country represents the Beacon of Freedom Around the World, you can con them into thinking that even if they're no longer free.
This is another benefit in the game that makes no sense. You build a statute that represents LIBERTY to all and you can now change to a government that doesn't mean that? So if you are Democracy you can now become a Monarch or Communist nation without problem all because you have a statute that honors the rights of all people and freedom and liberty? Oh boy were the people of whatever country it was built in conned royally.
"We are Communism now? YES! No protesting here. WE have a statue !!"
@Aetheilas I actually prefered democracy myself, cause the speed you could discover the techs was da shizz.. While Communism.. Excuse me.. Ran like a snail... (1 new tech every 4-6 turns FTW!.)
The statue of liberty allows you to change government without anarchy making it a lot easier for a democracy to go to war with its neighbors... somehow this seems to work in real life too, and we never even have to change governments.
@white000bear Then the statue has worked its magic! Whenever politicans struggle with each other and throw the whole country in chaos before gov't changes, you'll never know it! You'll be thinking about ice cream.
@Coconutswallow moar liek: liberal democracy(even though the USA, strictly speaking is a republic and not a democracy^^) allows you to believe in any kind of political or religious ideology; so in theory the US could've been controlled by communists, i mean there's certainly such leftwing parties there even though realistically they dont have too much support^^
I agree OrinjFlames24. I always made this my highest priority - once this was built, fundamentalism just bulldozed over the rest of the planet with the incredible build rate and flooding with fanatics. Oh tech too low? Flip over to democracy and research and then flip back to build infrastructure. It made the game completely unbalanced and trivial to win.
The meaning it more of a opinion of oneself upon it, for some its a icon, others its gift from France to celebrate America's independence, for others its a start of a new life. So many ways to look at this. The statue is not about a person but about a idea. Though you also showed your side of what it means, so don't take this reply is a insult. Just look it on others sides of the matter.
@Drackoe That's true, we take our own rights and freedoms for granted so much we don't even notice we're doing it. Lady Liberty is the only lady ever to win the hearts of every American.

Not sure I would've given that as a bonus for the Statue of Liberty...
The White House perhaps? :P
But the Statue of Liberty should relate to pop growth....

This is my favorite wonder video I think because of the music.
Hmmm, If this music is not stoned to the video then can someone give me the song?

The Statue of Liberty is a representation of Columbia / Diana / Venus / Isis / Queen Semiramis and many other names of the same 'deity.'
Liberty has absolutely nothing to do with it.

Well they were too powerful in Civ 2 that's for sure! Remember Leonardo's workshop?

Leonardo's Workshop?. Oh the Rape Factory. Ya, that was overpowered.

I never cared for this Wonder.
By the time I could build it, I had no need to change governments

you gotta be kidding fundementalism is almost like cheating through the game

fundamentalism? I didn't care for the big science penalty it imparted.

change all entertainers into scientists lol
OrinjFlames24 2 years ago
get fundamentalism and turn all entertainers into scientists. that solves the science decrease.

You only forget its meaning because the principles it embodies have so thoroughly and completely won.
