  • Paul is a huge inspiration to me.

  • I love how he ended that with "ethereal, kind of dreamier....stuff" :)

  • These interviews have totally changed they way I play guitar.

  • CYNIC STARTS US HEADLINE TOUR JULY 22nd, 2010!!!!

  • @oceannamic saw that show last night. totally amazing! They pretty much played every song. They even did cosmos off of the portal demo, and after the show they were selling a remastered version :D

  • Cynic starts a US headline tour in July 2010...I can't wait!

  • bro, this guy is such a pothead lol. makes great music though.

  • I can't wait to see Cynic this summer. SO PUMPED!!!!!!!!!

  • this man is wise. he and john baizley of baroness seem like self taught naturals at what they do. and i learned a lot from these interviews - so thank you vitaminnn07. it was also great to connect to what he was saying; a lot of things he mentioned i have noticed myself, so that was cool

  • After these interviews, i've concluded that Paul is a crazy man....In the good way, haha.

  • To answer your name. What happened to metal?

It stopped being gay faggot-ass Satanic blech, people like Chuck put heart and feeling into metal, and emotion. People like these guys at least TRY to make metal not so much of a parody and a joke. I'm getting sick of all the Five Finger Death Punches that rip off Pantera and all that "dun dun dun" b-tuned groove metal. The prog scene, as pretentious as it can be, can at least do something that can make you scratch your head... or think twice.

  • terms like "scene", prog are for systematization and stuff like that. i tend to think that musicians who bred themselves with a conception that it all can have any sense are initially very narrowed. it all gets back to being "like" somebody.I don't get any of that.

One day i'd listen pianists, the other radiohead, the other day i'm picking on my guitar a melody of a boring russian folk song that i hate purposely in a jazz swing manner to pervert it and make it unusual. thats it. just <3 music

  • An alien inhabiting a human body, experiencing human life and trying to document it.

    Pure genius

  • Paul is one smart dude...not a common thing in today's scene...just pure talent

  • @quantumat he is like 41 years old lol

  • paul is so hot

oh and a great musician =]

  • is that the last one?

  • your a try hard in the closet goat vagina

  • gay as chuck? go fuck yourself you faggot.

  • WhatHappenedToMetal999 has got to be the biggest frustrated faggot that listens to shit music like six feet under or all that crappy grindcore shit. he talks big to get attention because he was ass raped by his grandpa when he was 5 and no one liked him since then.

  • hahaha

  • WhatHapenedToMetal must be fucking 12. he talks like that blonde guitarist from Metalocalypse. grow up damn it. you still sound like an abused little boy that has dreams of one dressing up like boy george! fucking pathetic. don't fuck with cynic they are the best!!!

  • @CynicalSpheres Who are you referring to? AdamodellRevolt?

  • cool

  • thanks

  • no problem)

  • Awesome... Paul has a bad day and then goes and writes a stupid good album.

I wish when I stubbed my toe I would rip out this ridiculous solo too...

  • Masvidal will be remembered as being one of the great thinkers in metal, and music in general.

  • Good point. Masvidal is a really smart dude. His songs are full of meaning and messages...there's no fluff (like most of the crap out there).

  • Exactly my friend. Every song or band he has involvement with, my ears perk. Same with Chuck schuldiner or Ihsahn from Emperor. It's the innovation and the birth of fresh and exciting idea's that will keep music like this loved. No one sounds like Cynic, and I think Masvidal can be thanked for that. When I finally get my movies off the ground( years from now :P) he's definitely somebody I will look for when I begin thinking about soundtracks...imagine the possibilities..

  • Great interview. Thanks for uploading.

  • seconded.

    massive thanks
