terms like "scene", prog are for systematization and stuff like that. i tend to think that musicians who bred themselves with a conception that it all can have any sense are initially very narrowed. it all gets back to being "like" somebody.I don't get any of that.

Exactly my friend. Every song or band he has involvement with, my ears perk. Same with Chuck schuldiner or Ihsahn from Emperor. It's the innovation and the birth of fresh and exciting idea's that will keep music like this loved. No one sounds like Cynic, and I think Masvidal can be thanked for that. When I finally get my movies off the ground( years from now :P) he's definitely somebody I will look for when I begin thinking about soundtracks...imagine the possibilities..
Paul is a huge inspiration to me.
