I understand what you are saying mate about the fluoride in tap water. Either get an inline filter that removes fluoride or use only bottled water but have a meter fitted which will only charge you for water you continue to use for bathing etc (plus sewage charges). Doubt you'll win trying to take a proportion off the bill to offset your buying bottled water.

@Doubledig Ive had two £300 bills squashed over the last 5 or 6 years and now they have sent me a bill for £75, will see what happens to that. Its not only the fluoride, chlorine has countless side effects, one of them being asthma. Having a safe water supply is a human right. If we lived in a tribal situation and another tribe was poisoning the water up stream there would be hell to pay.

Severn Trent is the water company for Birmingham (flouridated) and I had a water meter fitted free.

I choose to not give them any money until its sorted. If there was another water treatment serve that i could choose i would gladly pay extra money to have that service.

You should go over your medical records and check the distance between your childhood illnesses and any vaccinations you may have had. You should also look into the levels of chlorine in your tap water. When chlorine meets organic matter it creates chloroform which is a carcinogen!

this is interesting because as soon as I left London for SE asia and started drinking bottled water my allergys vanished, could breath through me nose, no more asthma... im gonna have to try not drinking the water when i get back.

as far contracting on the phone its more or less pointless talking to her it means nothing, just send letters demanding proof of claim, its the registered letter which is your administrative process

like they way they make so many unsubstantiated claims.

On a similar note I had a catalogue account and went to work in Europe one Summer and informed the catalogue company who failed to forward my statements. I rang them and wrote to them but zero response. Then on returning I tried again to contact them and was told they don't send statements abroad and my account was with the a debt collector. I simply wrote to the Managing director of the cat. company explaining and said get the account back and I will pay it, it worked.

Set up a direct debit with them for £20 a month and they cant touch you; but if they are sending in the bailliffs be careful because you might find that your £300 debt has turned into a £1200 debt.

If you are not working you can get them to take it out your benefit every fortnight but I think u have to phone them up and arrange it with the DWP.

But if u have the means to pay then paying it off will make it go away..

For anyone thinking of using bottled water instead of tap water, some bottled brands can actually be far worse than tap water, and alot of them add fluoride to the water they distribute, msg me for more info if required.

One other thing I would add...it would be interesting to know if anyone else in your area has had similar problem with the water..that would be a matter for environmental health/water regulator to investigate then... it may be that you're just hypersensitive to different chemicals, I know a lot of people out there are and can have severe reactions from immune system.. what you describe with the intense hay fever could be a sign your immune system is going into overdrive due to chemicals maybe.

..but convincing the judge the water treatment was related to your health problems and allergies would be very difficult I think.. a letter from your Dr would certainly add weight to your case, so might be worth a try..

My advice is to try and reach an agreement again with the water provider and use your Dr letter..without some agreement and new contract, if you use the water I think the court will take the view you've entered into a contract with the water provider to pay the normal rate and the fact you dont drink the water is irrelevant, or just your choice and doesn't alter your contractual obligation. You might have to bring a separate county court claim against the water provider for a partial refund..

Very interesting and unusual case this one Dan. I can totally see your point and think what you're proposing to the water provider is reasonable and fair, since you only use the water for washing. Perhaps they just don't believe you? Maybe if you got a letter from your Dr and sent them a copy that would convince them you're telling the truth? I think if it came to court it would be a tricky one for a judge, technically and legally I think you'd be liable to pay for the water at full rate tho.

I know first hand that the water in Sutton in Ashfield is terrible! There is such a tinny chemical taste to it. Nice one for refusing to pay for it! I also have suffered from asthma since being a kid and also in the past 5 years have been developing hay fever which seems to be getting worse and worse every year.

It sickens me to know that the fluoridation of water is achieved by using Fluorosilicic acid (a by-product of Phosphate fertilizer production!)

@lindenwarden Well done for taking on the Census people. ++ I wish I had been brave enough to do it. I caved in and sent mine off in the end but just provided the minimum information. I've seen some discussions on forums about people sending blank forms back with the barcodes/numbers cut off and getting proof of delivery, they reckon this covers you from a legal point of view as having "returned" the form if the police come knocking! If enough people resisted it would cause them major probs ;-)

I suffered from a bit of dental fluorosis when I was younger, which damaged my teeth. The water is supposedly not even fluoridated in my area; it was probably from toothpaste. I'm glad because it would have been worse. Interesting that you got to see the effects of it.

The water provider should pay you for your hazardous chemical disposal services. :)

@smoky2004 i cant remember exactly cos i didnt expect it. when i gave up tap water it was probably 3 or 4 months till i realised i wasnt suffering with asthma, i suffer really badly from june till the beginning of august, it was in the middle of July when i realised my athsma wasnt effecting me. the year after was exactly the same and it was then that i knew it was the tap water. hope this helps

Dan, Don't bother calling wescott, They have admitted they are a 3rd party intervener, send a STOP NOTICE to them, you're wasting your time on the bunch of monkey's, If you've Noticed the water company by recorded post and they do not reply they have accepted the notice, hope you added your administration FEE into the notice, once you done that, forget them :) I have refused to pay water bills for 10 years and still get a letter ever few months, just recycle the paper mate :)
