i have a torquer v3 in my hawk. for street driving it actually isnt too bad at all, the idle is a tiny ruff but the sound is amazing, your gonna need more aggressive gears if your running stock however, i have 4.10s in mine and drive my car everyday, cause its my only vehicle.
Hey dude, I hope to god you can help me out here. I have a Torquer V3 sitting in my block right now. I need to pick a set of heads that will give me proper PTV clearance. Did your 5.3 stage 2.5 heads work fine? Please answer back ASAP if you see this. Thank you
I ran GM MLS gaskets or so and they were .055" thick, I think, and with unmilled PRC 5.3 stage 2.5 heads, they are supposed to clear. BUT!! after I got this dyno I had engine failure... The engine was spun as high as 7000rpm and I guess there was valve float and I had 4 pistons smack the valves and had a collapsed lifter..
So in a nutshell, it is supposed to clear, but somehow at very high rpm, my valvetrain wasnt very stable and it having close PTV clearance already was enough to damage my motor.
Its up to you.. I would run a thicker gasket, to be certain. but the best choice would be to have some builder install it and check the PTV.
@TungstenLion Thanks man. I appreciate the response. Yeah, an LS1 is DEFINITELY not supposed to be run that high of an RPM.. like you said, that's definite valve float, and then.. smack, bam, boom. I found that the best heads for a Torquer V3 are LS6 heads (243's). There are better ones, but on a budget, thats what I went with. The 5.3's are kind of a risk taker with the Torquer V3. Thanks again man
Yeah 243 are good heads.. I was gonna either go with 243s or 862s... I went with 862s, I dont even remember why... and now I am still running my 862s that was on the camaro in this video.. but now theyre on my 402, and It feels great... Look at the first video on my page. Its the video of my 402
someone tuned my bolt on 2002 Z28 and it made 364whp..
then when I did head/cam and made 432 rwhp another tuner..
then after that engine blew, I put a ls2 stroker in my Z28 and it made 493rwhp...
Which one are you talking about? and if its about the one who I feel is responsible for the engine failure, I will not announce it in public.. You can PM me if you wanna know.
This motor blew only 2 days after it was tuned... my tuner doesnt want to admit it, but he revved the engine to 7k, when it didnt need to be revved that high and the PTV clearance was already pretty close, I think the extra RPM caused valve float and the piston to smack the valves thus causing 2 of my lifters to mushroom and collapse... I found this a few months after I tore it apart..
Anyways, the car now has a 402 (Ls2 stroker) and it is currently making 493Rwhp.. and more to come soon!!

Is that torquer v3 cam really radical as far as street driving? I'm thinking about getting one.

The one who blew up your motor. Where are you located so we can steer clear of this guy.

Who was your tuner, if you dont mind me asking?

well I have had 3 different tuners..

Collapsed a lifter, because of complicated reasons..
I have a video of my Camaro with a 402, that has been up for over a year.
