  • At 1:48 it looks like Mike gets hit in the head with the thing in the background.

  • what a cracker, the best musician in the world

  • aww....sad.....no Alan Rickman in this video...

  • Beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • one thing its not a bass gitar its a contra bass

  • @ljmike1204 indeed but I think that only on the videoclip, contra bass is fretless, but I'm pretty sure that part is played with bass guitar with frets. What do you think?

  • @glowaglowacki yes becouse ther is a big difrence between the 2

  • @ljmike1204 It's not the song that's wrong, it's the video. that is a bass guitar playing. he's playing the wrong kind of bass in the video.

  • I love the way this is done. The narations and the composition, so perfect. It kind of reminds me of Peter and the Wolf in the way that it highlights each instruments uniqueness. Mike had such a powerful grasp of tone and color, a true musical painter.

  • Which of the many CD singles habe THIS particular version? I wants it, precioussss

  • @Ulf1957 Very similar, very similar (!) version is on "Singles & Rarities". This, particular version is published only as a videoclip. :(

  • @Ulf1957 You can download it from The Pirat Bay as a FLAC files. The version I mean is named "The Bell (remix, MC Viv Stanshall)". It is last record on the second of four CDs. On this CDs i many other real rarities...

Download it and be happy! :))) It is really the best remix i think...

  • Alan Rickman on the Album did an excellent job but I watch this out of respect for the late Bonzo Dog Dooh Dah bandsman. And I cannot believe I just tweeted that last sentence! lol

  • I love the fact that Oldfield refused to write Tubular Bells 2 for Virgin Records because they tried to pressure him into it, then went to another label and immediately wrote TB2 just to annoy Richard Branson. Class. Thank goodness he did write it though. What a lovely song The Bell is.

  • I love that song. Actuall, that´s the remiix of the original

P.S: this proves that Mike Oldfield can play all the instruments

  • Nagyon jó nekem például ez az egyik kedvenc zeném.Mike Oldfield az egyik kedvenc előadóm.

  • Sends chills down my spine. So beautiful.

  • The album will have anniversary next year.

  • the best

  • Hah man 2:20 onwards has got goosebumps written all over it ....just loves it when he couples the tubular bells with that guitar !!!! LOVE MIKE!! XD

  • Hah man 2:20 has got goosebumps written all over it ....just loves it when he couples the tubular bells with that guitar !!!! LOVE MIKE!! XD

  • those musical notes looks like scattering ants XD

  • 5 people hates his own lifes

  • can you still see mike on tour

  • Slightly different to the album version. I quite like this one. Who's the "introducing" guy?

  • @dctim, the guy is Vivian Stanshall

  • Genial!!

    Adoro esta cnación.

  • This is how a genius amuses himself!

  • Ein sehr gutes Video es ist zwar schon etwas älter aber immer wieder nett es sich anzusehen.....

  • i love him

  • His music has been the soundtrack to my life since TB1 was released. To put it simply, his music makes my life better, he is a genius the like of which we will not see again.

  • No - Vivian Stanshall - on vocals. Bless 'im. R.I.P.

    Subject: colon haves

    Anagram: he on vocals

  • Bisschen albern und der musikalischen Bildung unserer Jugend nicht zuträglich, wenn man eine Bassgitarre ansagt und einen Kontrabass spielt... Ansonsten ganz lustige optische Umsetzung.

  • Introducing - Grand Piano! They guessed. Blarney! my goodness.

    Vocal Chords!

    Subject: really really not boring

    Anagram: O’Reilly – blarney – lot rang

  • Narrators on Oldfield records. Cleese - Stanshall - Janet Brown was it? Rickman - and many others in live concerts. Strolling Players all and all enjoyed. You aint heard narration until the drunken piece by Stanshall - TB I - and his "B******D IF I KNOW!"

And that speaks to my pain right now. Side swipes at sidewinders? Who cares?

  • I like it better with Alan Rickman's voice introducing the instruments. But then again that's just me.

  • @IsisLaZingara - It was better on the Tubular Bells 2 album, yes. But this reprise from Viv Stanshall was nice for the remix single.

lot of Dickens to shoot his like in the name of an idea is harder than for someone who has read

no Dickens. -Joseph Brodsky, poet, Nobel laureate (1940-1996)

  • A fantastic piece of music. Mike Oldfield - one of the greatest musicians of his generation

  • The Liberty Bell is still testing itself? Isn't that bell cracked? Jim'll mix it alRIGHT. Mend the bell first and then come a calling these United States. Then ring my bell - campanology perhaps? No offence anyone but I once said the hardest thing in the world is to tell a certain type of individual THEY ARE WRONG!

  • awesoooommm maestro

  • Genial, ja !!!

  • one of my top 5 all time "songs".

  • i could just you hug you for putting this up. Thank you, thank you. thankyou xxxxxxxxx

  • The guy who did the instrument naming in Edinburg was funny. He went into stage with a C Mongler smile and hammed: GRAND PIANO! BASS GUITAR!

  • Nice one, great video to go with a nice song.

  • The Alan Rickman MC voice was the best, it was luscious!!!

  • its a freaking contra bass not a bass gitar numnuts

  • Yay, the good old times!

  • awesome is all i can say yay mo at its best

    love him ! <3 <3 <3

  • Mike Oldfield the MASTER of sounds !

  • Oldfield- The BesT!!!

  • @TheIdentCritic

    yes please, how best done

  • John Cleese played th MC part on a different version of this song. Although the guy doing it on here has a very unusual voice.

  • @rikleith

Vivian Stanshall is the bloke in this piece who did the MC intro on the 1973 original, appropriately for Virgin Records' first record release. Inspired by the Bonzo Dog Doo Da Band's 'The Intro and the Outro' , dated late 60s featuring Viv as the band's lead vocalist.. It's on you tube

  • @uckridge1

    Yeah...r.i.p to him.

  • TheldentCritic

been to the site tell me wha to do. Would be grateful

  • cela fait longtemp que je connais sa musiq, vu en 1984 a toulouse avec monlight shadow exelent concert que je me rappel parfaitement

    tres bonne musiq , j'aime

  • I said it in the early 80's- in no particular order: Bach, Mozart, Chopin, Debussy, Beethoven(and many more)... Oldfield.

  • Belongtanick - I thank you. Oldfield and 'Lord' Stanshall, a great melding of British eccentricity the likes of which have never been seen nor likely to be matched. I urge readers of this site to look at Viv's great works.

  • last of the gods...

  • Nowt wrong with a double bass for bass guitar. I have seen so many different sized Tubular Bells played over the years - it suits the piece.

  • want to download this MP3 version with the great Viv Stanshall doing the intro, but where?

  • @uckridge1 mp3ify.com and put the url into it to download this version.

  • 1:04 - the MC introduces "Bass Guitar", and Mike Oldfield plays double bass. Anyone else noticed that? What a blooper, I can't believe it went through unnoticed!

  • killer. never heard that version before. shivers down my spine.

  • Briliant!!!

  • i really love this song

  • The good times

  • JEAN MICHAEL JARRE, VANGELIS AND MIKE OLDFIELD= los tres tenores

  • What a concert that would be, with those gyus

  • Pierwszy klip Mike'a jaki widzialem i slyszalem od niego zaczela sie moja fascynacja jego muzyka jak rowniez rokiem progresywnym, new age czy jakkolwiek chce sie ta muzyke nazywac - dzieki temu moje gusta muzyczne zostaly sprecyzowane - z kazdym nowopoznanym utworem coraz bardziej zapadalem sie muzyke...

  • Just superb....

  • if that dont make you feel good, you be dead!

  • Doesn't get any better than this!! shear perfection!

  • Mike "the Best" Oldfield

  • Musical balm. Lovely stuff. I recall the around the original Tubular Bells recording time - a recording of Mike and Viv presumably drunk and recording same for an album - a tour of a "great estate". "The Fleet was all lit up again!" - allegedly. Great Britain at its best! "hic!" lol

  • Amazing! It's a mastery! I love it, it's a melody for my soul..

  • Viv Stanshall has a great voice.

  • @KaFaraqGatri Is Viv Stanshall the guy who introduces the various instruments? Because if that's the case I agree!

  • Ahhh... this song is a pleasure to my ears.

  • ''Two slightly sampled electric guitars'' avesome :)

  • Fantastic sound!

  • Mike , real Genius.

  • @Tiramisator 3:09 is the best part XD

  • He is one of about 10 greatest musicians we on earth. I am just thankful for his great talent.

  • 100%

  • @AuFe2 He´s THE MUSICIAN...

  • @AuFe2 who are the other 9

  • I didn't know Vivian Stanshall was Master of Ceremonies for the second Tubular Bells...I thought he only did the first and that Alan Rickman did the second.

After reading up on it a bit, I found that Alan Rickman was the MC, though alternate b sides have both Billy Connolly and Vivian Stanshall.

In any case, it's really neat to see Viv unexpectedly.

  • Every one of them would be perfect for the videoclip. Each one gives Mike's extraordinary music a touch of freshness and elegance.

As much as I like the clip, I must say that I prefer Alan Rickman's deep voice.

  • looks more like a cello to me :-)

  • I watched the premiere of this in Edinburg in 1992, I didn't want to blink in case I missed something.

  • I heard that the voice that repeats all the instruments was Alan Rickman.

    Is it true?

  • Not on this clip but Alan Rickman can be heard on the TB2 album

  • In this video, it is the late Vivian Stanshall. He was the origonal voice in TB1 in the early '70s

  • I have the mp3 for this if anyone wants it, as well as the instrumental version and Billy COnnolly as MC one.

  • a Great song!!

  • Too short version... I enjoy the CD version XD

  • totalmente de acuerdo... I agree XD

  • I prefer the version where Billy Connoly introduces tha instruments.

  • Billy Connoly und die Gitarre am Schluss, einfach genial, Tubulare Grüße ind die Welt... Carsten
