Thank you Robert11133, you have succeeded, making a teenage boys heart leak with heartache, seriously, thank you. This s the greatest rendition I have ever heard and the pictures and all the great facts you put into this was amazing. Thank you.
My family is from Arrochar Scotland, right on the loch. My grams is visiting a cousin in Perth as of now. My grams left Scotland when she was in college. She says leaving home was the worst thing she ever did. I personally wish she hadn't. I have only visited a few times, last time was last year. When we went to our families old Stronghold, it brought tears to my eyes. I love you Innveruglan! Failte.
@syouhizeihantai I have to use a translator to read this and it is easy to read. But this melody is almost 200 years old. It is from Scotland, this I know.
From the green scottish hills where the proud pipers play to the great salt lake and the wasatch. There's no better clan nor will there ever be then the friendly fighting scots of Ben Lomond. We're proud of Ben Lomond and all that she stand for and though through the world may we wander. A part of our hearts will always yern to be in the memory hallowed halls of Ben Lomond.
I'm hear because it's rememberance day. I was born in Glasgow, but moved to Canada as a wee baby. My parents have now both passed, my da was a vet of the 2nd world war. We love Canada, but we never forgot our heritage, we're all very proud of our Scottish descent. My parents honeymooned at Loch Lomond and always raved about how gorgeous it was. I've never seen it till now. Thankyou for posting this, you've made my day
Loch Lomond will always hold a special place in my heart. It remains one of the few moments in my life when I went "My god, that is a beautiful sight."
I will never forget sitting by that Loch, looking down it and thinking that I was the luckiest boy (as I was then) on Earth.
@SaggySanders2 There are canada geese all over the British Isles not just in Scotland. Pretty common. It has been introduced but I beleive some get here naturally too.
@gaconnochie oh tru cool but i don't think they came their naturally because it would be too far a flight and their natural instinct is to fly south to the US because we all know theres nothing like a Canadian winter ;)
I've loved this song from the first time I heard it almost 20 years ago now. It's irrelevant whether or not you've been to Scotland because this song is a beautiful piece of poetry & art.
I love this song. This guy always sang it "to me" kinda. He sat next to me in Life Issues and my name is Bonnie, so he always sang that part. Lolz. <3<3<3
Oye everyone just STFU and listen to the friggin song. It's a beautiful song and nobody gives a rats ass about wether it's 90 miles or 40 miles away from wherever ur talkin bout. Ok? Jesus Christ I sound like a freaking troll but o well apparently that's the only way to get things done on the Internet anymore...
Lough Neagh and Lower Lough Erne have larger surface area's than Loch Lomond, on the subject of your first thing on the video t. But regardless, still a wonderful place.
speech though (ie Pictish and Cumbric) and that mostly what happened later was language shift rather than replacement of the natives. That is through different forms of prestige firstly Gaelic, then Scots, then Standard Scottish English became dominant.
"The celtic language spoken by the Scottish Highlands was Irish in origin..." That is the traditional view though it is questioned by some. Some claim that Q-Celtic was originally spoken in Britain and that the P-Celtic strain was later. Meaning it was possible that the Gaels of the Argyl coast were a remnant Q-Celtic speaking population rather than new arrivals from Ireland. All by the by as it can't be proven one way or another. We do know that most in Scotland at that time were P-Celtic in
Robert11133 is mistaken writing that the fact the distance between Ben Lomond and Ben Nevis is 40 is wrong. It is true - in straight line the distance between the mountains is 40 miles. It is 90 when walking the West Highland Way
Some facts are actually wrong, Ben Nevis is 90 miles from Ben Lomond not 40. Also there is an island that has wallabies living on it, don't believe me, look it up.
@xoxJeni7xox i got that from a website it must mean from the top of the summit looking straight across not by the road length from ben lomond to nevis witch would be 90 miles if that makes sense lol
@xoxJeni7xox ben nevis is not 90 miles from ben lomond. by road probably. the road on the eastern shore of loch lomond stops at rowardennan. to get from nevis to lomond would involve driving round 3/4(26 unnecessary miles) of loch lomond. 40 sounds a bit short. still closer than 90. glasgow is 96 miles by road from ben nevis.
@bipedalame Okay i may have been a bit out and it is more than 96 miles from glasgow to ben nevis, i showed know i drive it all the time. Anyway stop picking up on little facts
@bipedalame I may have been a bit out but my guess was closer as its actually 70 miles away, i do know how to get to from Loch Lomond to Ben Nevis, i drive it all the time
@MrArratoon The celtic language spoken by the Scottish Highlands was Irish in origin... don't forget that at one time all continents including islands were joined as one huge landmass and Scotland as well as northern England's roots are Viking ( Norse) Having said that from a linguist's view, everyone is as individual as they feel and so many have ties to so many places. The divisions of people and the furies that come with ultra patriotism came far later and more's the pity.
So sad. The thousands of Irish and Scottish who fought and died for there independence and freedom from England. I'm English,Scottish, and Irish so this song is especially important ot me. The song has a real sad history. Look up the "Jacobite Risings."
since i know the song and every time i hear it i long to visit Loch Lomond one day. getting so emotional hearing this, it reminds me of a lovely person i used to know. i'm gonna send him a postcard from this place.
The Jacobite rebellion was the worst thing that ever happened to Scotland. In the end when the flower of the Highlands lay dying on the moor. Bonnie Prince Charlie took the money chest saying his need was greater than the families that fell that day. The English commander William Duke of Cumberland. A flower was named for him "Sweet William" but to the Scots he was "Stinking Billy." Flora Mcdondald help the pretender escape & she fled to the colonies and was arrested in Fayetteville NC.
@bipedalame I'll give something that will make me apostate: The Lowlanders are Anglsachsen. They won't admit it but it's true nevertheless. Scottish English is supposed to be the closest language to Anglsachsen.
Thank you for posting the song, lovely pictures of Loch Lomond and most of all the commentary, I will be in Scotland by next month for holiday and will definitely visit Loch Lomond and remember your posting.
I am a of Scottish decent but I have never seen Loch Lomond.....But my grandmother Angus used to lullaby us to sleep with this song....God bless ye forever Agnus Malcolm.
@sdae102 loch lomond is one of the most beautiful places you can go, i went there to release my grandfathers ashes and it was about as peaceful and still as it possibly could...you may hear the odd children on the nearby play park however just standing at the end of the loch and gazing out upon its waters made me feel touched by its stillness and beauty
I visited loch lomond the other day and Its the first time ive been. I live in glasgow and all i can say, after being used to the city, you forget how beautiful this country reallly is. I want to see more of it. Im proud to be scottish <3
i love this song. and that place. i go there for two weeks every year. its really a magical place. btw, if anyones interested, look up the legend of loch lomond. its some backstory on how this song was wrote.
Two of Bonnie Prince Charlie's men were captured and left behind in Carlisle after the failed rising of 1745. One young soldier was to be executed, the other released. The Spirit of the dead soldier traveling by the 'low road' would reach Scotland before his comrade, who would be struggling along the actual road over high, rugged country.
Nice rendition of this well loved song. I live close to Loch Lomond and I can tell you that the Bonnie, Bonnie Banks are covered in deep snow just now, and Ben Lomond is a picture of magnificence in it's snowy mantle.
every once in a while i sing this song to myself and i know this song since i was in highschool and i still love this song ive never herd this song in 2 years
I have not heard this Song in Years but I still sing it every so often. It was very Popular back in the late 1960ties and 70ties when we had Black and White Telly and a lot of Scottish Ceilé Programmes Like Jimmy Shand and his Band and I forget the Singers Name that was always on it.
People in Ireland love Scottish Singing and Culture and it was especially Popular back then when we had not a lot of Programmes to look at. So it is very nice to hear this again through the Magic of the Internet.
this song truly moves you in a way, no matter which version you listen to! Sometimes it moves you to tears, sometimes it makes you feel happy and full of joy. But no matter what, this song will always have a strong effect on all who listen to it. Such a beautiful song that will never grow old through time.
this is amazing song:) another thing you could have talked about is the castles that are on the banks of th loch:) its quiet interesting if you ever look into it<3 great song
Loch Lomond is the "Heart of Scotland." Centrally located, it provides easy and quick access to all of Scotland. His true love, to whom he is saying farewell, is Scotland. The soldier was none other than Bonnie Prince Charlie saying farewell to the Scotland he so loved. He knew that he would never be able to return, and he never did. Make no mistake though, the Loch does indeed hold a monster. The monster is about to awaken!
@TheScottishexile My ancestral home is Arrochar which rests right on the Loch. My clan is macfarlane. We still own our castle Inveruglas. I'm proud to say that I am fron Loch Lomond. Thogail nam bo theid sinn!
@vidaliadais Greetings from across the sea. My ancestors were forced to flee Scotland for Jamestown in America approximately 360 years ago. At the time, our castle was surrounded by the forces of Oliver Cromwell. My direct male ancestor was able to escape the castle in disquise.
I hope, one day, to return across the sea to visit my ancestral land.
beautiful song, just one point, Loch Lomond does not have the largest surface area of fresh water in the UK. That honour goes to Lough Neagh in Northern Ireland.
Awesome video and song!!! Check out my videos and tell me what you think:) I'm not a pro, and I dont have pro quality equipment to record on, but I would like some input on my singing:)
By yon bonnie banks! And by yon bonnie brae! Where the sun shines bright on Loch Lomond! Where I and my true love will never...meet again. On the bonnie, bonnie banks of Loch Lomond
Chorus:Oh Ye'll take the high road, and I'll take the low road. But I'll be in Scotland afor ye. But I and my true love will never meet again on the bonnie bonnie banks of Loch Lomond
T'was there that we parted, by yon shady glen. On the steep, steep side o' Ben Lomond. An' in purple
The song is an inspiration and is beautifully done! I have been to Scotland four times and love it. Two of my family members served under the direct command of a direct descendant of Robert de Bruce during the time of our American Indian Wars of the19th century ,and he gallantly perished in battle. I'm not Scottish, but I say "Scotland Forever"
I visited scotland and stayed at overtoun house right next to Loch Lomod but unortnatly I didn't have time to visit it :'( I hope I get another chance to go to scotland to visit that loch.
This song sends shivers up my spine and makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end, my arms are full of goose pimples as I type this. BEAUTIFUL . From a proud Englishman with Scottish ancestry
Anybody else startin to get fucked-off wi these americans?... me too, well our yank friends i have one thing to say, YOUR NOT SWIMMING ANYMORE, YOUUUUUR NOT SWIMMING ANY MORE.
I'm an American with Scottish background (Uncle and up in the family tree are from Scotland), but I still have a connection with this song. Makes me proud to at least have a Scottish background :) Such a good song.
@MrFlorida1992 you make me sad to live in Florida. form one place with beauty to another Scotland is perfect. I had my happiest birthday there last year.
Thank you Robert11133, you have succeeded, making a teenage boys heart leak with heartache, seriously, thank you. This s the greatest rendition I have ever heard and the pictures and all the great facts you put into this was amazing. Thank you.

Judokkaa

Nice rendition of this well loved song. I live close to Loch Lomond and I can tell you that the Bonnie, Bonnie Banks are covered in deep snow just now, and Ben Lomond is a picture of magnificence in it's snowy mantle.
Thanks for sharing.
